Hi everyone, I need to go to Sri Lanka at the end of January. I’ve seen that many roads, hotels, and parks were closed after the cyclone, which unfortunately caused a lot of damage. Does anyone have more information? Would it be wiser to postpone our trip? Thanks, Alain.

Hi there, There’s almost 2 months to go until then... The FDFA (Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs) currently doesn’t advise against travel to Sri Lanka. Here’s an article from yesterday (you can translate it with Google Chrome or similar if needed): https://www.travelnews.ch/services/30803-sturm-katastrophe-auf-sri-lanka-das-muessen-reisende-wissen.html We’re traveling at the same time!

Hi Alain,

In the south, all good, everything’s working. For the national parks, everything’s reopened 😊 Regarding trains, the mountain line is out of service. For hotels, check with your hosts if you’d already booked in the Kandy or mountain region, but in the Cultural Triangle, the south, Ella, Uda Walawe, etc., things are pretty much back to normal.

Have a great day! Caroline
