Are there any flights from Tirana to Corfu?

Hi there,

We’re renting a car to explore Albania in September/October. We’ll start in the north and finish in the south. We’d love to drop off the car near Saranda and take the ferry to Corfu on foot, but it seems we’ll have to return it to Tirana since there’s nowhere else to drop it off. From there, we’d like to take a direct flight to Corfu, but I can’t find any direct flights... I really don’t want to connect through Athens and backtrack when we’re so close! Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks, Carole (Canada)

Hi Carole,

There’s no real reason for a Tirana-Corfu route to exist. So, if you *have* to, you could go via Athens—but that’s about it. Aegean.

Hello,

Sometimes you can drop off the car somewhere other than where you picked it up, but you’ll have to pay an extra fee for the "one way". Check with the rental agencies in Albania...

Hi there, There isn’t much demand for a flight from Tirana to Corfu, which is why none exist. 🙁 You’ll return your rental car where you picked it up (Tirana, I assume), then take a bus to Durrës (about 30 minutes and no more than 3 €). From Durrës, there used to be ferries to Corfu every 4 hours. Hopefully they’re still running—otherwise, you’ll have to go to Saranda instead.

From Durrës, ferries go to Italy, not at all sure about Corfu...

Sure enough, after some research, I see that ferries to Corfu only leave from Saranda! So the solution (if they haven’t booked yet) is to find a rental company that allows dropping the car off in Saranda... Otherwise, take a bus to Saranda and spend a few days in the Saranda/Ksamil/Butrint area before catching the ferry to Corfu.

Hi there,

Thanks for your help, but no company allows car returns anywhere other than Tirana. I thought it was a shame to have to go back to Tirana when we’ll already be in the Saranda area... but we won’t have a choice. Either we’ll return to Tirana and take the bus to Saranda, or we’ll go straight to Corfu with the rental car.

Hi there,

Thanks for your help, but indeed, there’s no ferry other than Saranda, and I get that a flight would be pretty pointless given how close Corfu is to Albania.

Definitely a big issue getting to Corfu!

If you're heading north, don't miss Sköder and then Theth. The road is brand new!

Hello,

I understand that a flight would be pretty useless given how close Corfu and Albania are

It’s not about proximity—it’s about passenger flow and market demand. There’s no reason to fly from Tirana to Corfu, whether for business, tourism, or culture. They’re two very distinct worlds.

Hello,

You should check with the Albanian rental agency whether the car is allowed on the ferry to Corfu, if there’s extra insurance to pay for the ferry, or even for Greece afterward...
