Hi there, we’ll have 15 days total, which means 13 days of travel on the ground. We’re planning to visit Brazil during the second half of July. I’m not naive enough to think we can see a huge chunk of Brazil in such a short time, so I’m focusing on a specific area to make it relaxed and enjoyable.

We’re flying out of Madrid. I was thinking of spending 3 or 4 days in Rio, 3 days in Iguazu (I initially thought one day would be enough, but I’ve read it’s highly recommended to visit the Argentine side as well), 3 or 4 days on Ilha Grande, and 3 days in Paraty. I’m not entirely sure about Ilha Grande in July, but I’m looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the sea (if the water’s good then).

I’ve noticed a lot of people fly into Madrid and return from São Paulo (or vice versa). What’s the advantage of that? It doesn’t seem problematic (based on Google Maps, though I’m no expert) to navigate from Rio. Is there a more efficient order for visits to minimize travel time?

As you can tell, I’m just starting to plan, but I’ll need to book the international flights soon. I’ll probably have more questions for those of you who are patient enough to help! ;)

Hi there, I’m not really into architecture, but I’ve always wanted to visit Brasília to see what a modern city built from scratch looks like, and I thought not many people lived there. After doing some research, I realize the city is actually quite crowded. As I’m planning my trip to Brazil, people keep telling me not to go, that I’ll be disappointed and it’s a waste of time.

We’re leaving on February 19th for 13 days in the Northeast of Brazil, with my husband and our two kids (19 and 17). Here’s our itinerary: We’ll arrive in Fortaleza and stay in a guesthouse for 3 nights. Then we’ll hit the road with a private driver, heading to Pipa via the beach of Ponta do Mel, passing through Galinhos, São Miguel, and Natal.

Do you think this is a good itinerary?

Initially, I was planning to go from São Luís to Fortaleza (Lençóis Maranhenses...), but I was advised against it since it’s not really the season and the dunes and lagoons would’ve been empty. I can’t change the itinerary now, but I’m a bit worried I’ll be less impressed by this one. I’d love to know if it’s still worth it?

I’d love to get your thoughts on the itinerary we’re planning for this summer (August) with our three older teens. We’ve booked our round-trip flight from Lyon to Rio. Originally, we were thinking of heading down to Paraty / Ilha Grande... but after checking, the water temperature seems a bit too cool, so we’d prefer to go to Bahia state for a bit more warmth. Our interests: discovering the people and cities, enjoying the beach and relaxation, a few short hikes, etc.

Next April, I’m planning a trip (the 1st) to Brazil. I’ll have 12 days there (not counting the 13th day for the return). I’ll arrive on 22/04 in the early evening in Rio de Janeiro. The return flight is from São Paulo on 04/05 in the afternoon. I know 12 days is very little for such a big country, which is why I’ll focus on a relatively small area: the southeast (though "small" is relative!). I’ve started mapping out the main stops for my trip, which would be: - Rio de Janeiro: 4 to 5 days? - Ilha Grande and maybe Paraty: 2 to 3 days - Iguazu Falls: Brazilian and Argentinian sides: 2 days - São Paulo: 1 to 2 days

What do you think? Is this reasonable? There are about 250/260 km between Rio and Paraty. I’d like to make the trip by rental car. What do you think? A car is definitely much more practical and faster than the bus. 12/13 days is short—I can’t afford to lose too much time in transit. To get to Ilha Grande, I understand there’s a ferry that shuttles between the mainland and the island. From which city can you take the ferry? Mangaratiba? Conceição de Jacareí? Angra dos Reis? If I arrive by rental car, where can I park it? I think cars are banned on the island, right? That’s where I’m at with my planning. Basically, I’m thinking of the Amazon, the Northeast coast with Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (but skipping Chapada Diamantina), Ouro Preto, Paraty, and Ilha Grande—but no Rio visit. Today, we started looking into traveling in April 2026, either to Chile or Argentina. It’s our first trip to South America. I’ve only been to French Guiana once, about ten years ago, for the space center. In recent years, we’ve usually gone to Asia during the spring holidays.

Based on the flight tickets I’ve found, two arrival and departure options are available: - Arriving in Buenos Aires and departing from Salvador de Bahia. - Arriving in Santiago, Chile, and still departing from Salvador de Bahia.

We’re considering flying business class on the outbound flight so we arrive a bit more rested. The travel class might influence our choice between itinerary A or B.

We’d like to spend two days at Iguazu Falls (both the Argentine and Brazilian sides), which explains the departure from Brazil.

Initially, we thought about arriving in Buenos Aires and staying in Argentina before heading to Iguazu. However, the itinerary forces us to go back through Buenos Aires.

We love nature. The El Calafate region seems to offer beautiful, easily accessible landscapes. Maybe there’s another area we should prioritize.

Here are two itineraries—what do you think? I know it’s short, but we can’t add any more days. We’ll have to make it work.

Option A: D1(Sat): Flight from France to Buenos Aires – arrival at 9:55 PM. D2(Sun): Visit Buenos Aires D3(Mon): Visit Buenos Aires. We’ve already traveled to Brazil several times and know the south of Rio as well as the region between São Luís and Fortaleza, and Chapada Diamantina... We’re making a family dream come true: spending a month in Brazil from July 19 to August 20. We’ll land in Rio and spend 6 days there (we’ve finalized a home exchange for a lovely apartment in the Copacabana neighborhood). After that, we’re heading to Minas Gerais by rental car for 11 days (Tiradentes, Ouro Preto, and the Inhotim Institute), then the Costa Verde, and finally 2 days in São Paulo.

We’ll be traveling with our three kids, ages 17, 14, and 9, who are real travelers and good hikers. Goes hand in hand, right? 😄

For now, we’ve planned to visit Ilha Grande (4 days) and then Paraty and its surroundings (3 days). What do you think? Ilha Grande appealed to us for its hikes and beaches, but couldn’t we do that along Paraty’s coast? I’ve read mixed reviews about Ilha Grande...

I asked two agencies to put together a circuit with transfers, hotels, organized visits, and one domestic flight. I don’t speak Spanish or Portuguese. 6 nights in Rio 3 nights on Ilha Grande 3 nights in Paraty Domestic flight to Salvador for 3 nights 3 nights in Morro de São Paulo 1 night in Salvador before flying back to France. For this itinerary, I’m going with Tourlane, but I’m still waiting on the second quote from Comptoir des Voyages. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary and especially on these agencies—thanks for any feedback! 😊

Hi there, We’re spending 3 weeks in Brazil, arriving in São Paulo—a couple plus a teen—and we’ll have a rental car. We especially love nature: hiking, wildlife watching, birds, etc. We’re planning to wrap up with a week around Paraty and Ilha Grande. We’re not really into visiting big cities like São Paulo or Rio unless you think we’d be missing out big time.

So we’ve got 2 weeks to explore the south/southwest region of São Paulo. What do you recommend? National parks? Off-the-beaten-path nature spots? Iguazu Falls?

Je voyage avec mon mari (la soixantaine tous les 2) sacs non pas à dos mais à roulettes, hotels à budget moyen. J'organise tout moi même. Nous partons 3 mois de Noel à mi mars chaque année. Nous avons fait toute l'Asie du sud est, que nous avons beaucoup aimé. En Amérique nous avons fait et aimé : le Nicaragua, l'Equateur avec la Galapagos, Cuba et le Yucatan au Mexique. A force, nous ne savons plus où aller, sachant que nous souhaitons du soleil et un peu de plage ou des îles au moins de temps en temps dans le voyage. Cette hiver, nous avons tenté l'Inde du sud et les Andamans, mais cela ne restera pas notre voyage préféré. L'hiver prochain, je tenterais bien la Colombie. Qu'en pensez-vous ? L'Argentine est aussi faisable à cette époque au point de vue climat. Quels pays me conseilleriez vous ? La Bolivie aussi a l'air chouet. Merci de vos suggestions averties !

Le 23 mai 2020, je pars avec un ami pour 2 semaines (environ) en Bolivie avant de rejoindre le Pérou. Ayant peur, comme l'an dernier, qu'il ne reste plus de place, nous avons déjà réservé le trek de l'inca vers le Machu Picchu pour le 10 juin. Idéalement, nous aimerions arriver à Cusco le 8 juin.

Ma question est la suivante : Quel itinéraire nous conseillerez-vous pour la Bolivie ?

Nous nous imaginions atterrir à Santa Cruz avant de bouger dans la sens des aiguilles d'une montre. Santa Cruz puis Sucre et Potosi avant de rejoindre le Salar d'Uyuni (4j/3n). Nous remonterions vers le volcan Sajama avant d'aller à La Paz pour finir vers le Lac Titicaca (Copacabana, la Isla del sol) avant de quitte le sol bolivien. (ou vaut-il finir par La Paz ?)

Est ce que tout cela vous semble possible en 2 semaines et cohérent ? Quels autres lieux nous conseillerez-vous de visiter ? J'ai lu que certaines personnes ne s'arrêtaient pas à Sucre...

I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.

I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.

Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.

After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.

The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.

I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋

Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

- Santiago : 1 nuit - Vol Santiago -> Calama - San Pedro de Atacama : 4 ou 5 nuits Nous allons louer une voiture et faire le maximum de visites par nous-mêmes (sauf les geysers el tatio où nous prendrons une excursion) - Excursion Salar Uyuni Bolivie : 4 jours 3 nuits Ensuite, nous souhaitons faire un circuit dans le nord en voiture de location, l'itinéraire n'est pas encore au point : - Iquique ou Pica : 1 ou 2 nuits (ça serait pour se reposer un peu) - Arica : 1 ou 2 nuits - Putre : au minimum 2 nuits Combien de temps prévoir sur place ? Nous souhaitons faire le parc Lauca et le Salar de Surire, vaut-il mieux le faire avec une excursion ? Je suis preneuse de toutes vos suggestions de visites dans le coin. - Retour sur Arica et vol Arica -> Santiago - A voir si nous aurons le temps d'ajouter une étape à Valparaiso (en bus depuis Santiago) - Santiago : 1 nuit - Retour en France

Pour la voiture de location, est-ce qu'il vaut mieux louer une seule voiture durant tout le voyage (prise du véhicule à Calama et retour à Arica avant de reprendre l'avion vers Santiago) ou alors laisser la première avant l'excursion en Bolivie (pour ne pas payer inutilement les 3 jours lorsqu'on sera en Bolivie) et en reprendre une ensuite ?

Nous partons prochainement en Bolivie avec mon mari et le lac Titicaca est prévu dans notre itinéraire. Pour les personnes qui y sont allés récemment ou ayant des informations par rapport à cela, savez-vous si l'Isla del Sol (partie Nord) a réouvert ou pas encore? Auriez-vous des informations quand à la date de sa réouverture. J'ai récemment lu qu'un accord avait été trouvé entre la partie Nord et la Sud de l'île et je m'interroge donc quand à la réouverture de cette partie de l'île.

Nous sommes en train d'organiser notre voyage de 2 semaines au Chili pour février 2020.

Voici l'itinéraire auquel nous pensons, en organisant le voyage en fonction des prix des billets d'avion que nous avons trouvé notamment pour l'Ile de Pâques :

J1 Paris - Santiago J2 - J3 - J4 : Santiago & Valparaiso Vol Santiago - Calama - Location de voiture J5 - J6 - J7 : Atacama J8 - J9 - J10 : Sud Lipez --> peut-on garder la voiture et prendre uniquement un guide pour le Sud Lipez ? Ou les prestations se font-elles guide + voiture ? Vol Calama - Santiago Vol Santiago Ile de Paques J11 - J12 ? --> faut-il répartir ces jours sur les régions d'Atacama et du sud Lipez ou autre région ? J13 - J14 - J15 : Ile de Pâques J16 : Ile de Paques - Santiago - Paris : ça va nous faire un gros gros temps d'avion : 5h + 4h d'escale + 13h + 3h d'escale + 2h --> vous voyez une façon d'optimiser ou c'est le jeu sur ce type de destination ?
