Hi there, I'm heading to Morocco for 10 days as a backpacker, with my car and a tent canvas if needed. Does anyone have great experiences in this country around the Tétouan and Tangier areas? I'd love to spend time with locals, rent a small room, and take part in daily life. If you've got any addresses to share, that'd be awesome! Thanks a million for your replies!!!😉 Christine

Hello,

It's better with the correction in the title (it should also be in the text). So, it's definitely Tétouan. I don’t know this part of Morocco well, but I just wanted to say that "spending time with locals" isn’t something you can plan—it doesn’t happen every day. It usually comes when you return to a place and keep in touch in the meantime. And if you were invited for lunch, for example, it might mean you’re expected to bring the meat or some vegetables. It’s up to you to understand what’s expected based on how the conversation goes. What do you mean by "renting a small room"? With locals? Again, you can’t just arrange to stay with someone, even for money. For accommodation, go for hostels or hotels—they’re made for that. For camping: if you’re heading to Morocco soon, I’d forget about the tent because of the heat. If you use it outside official campsites, never set it up anywhere without permission. Check with local authorities (like the gendarmerie) to find out where you can pitch your tent for a night. It’s a safety issue (your safety).

Good evening, I would’ve said exactly the same thing.
