j'ai déjà proposé un circuit de 23 jours il y a qq temps mais hélas il était trop ambitieux et j'ai dû l'alléger et même grandement l'amputer : plus de rando - pas de canyon de chelly - pour ne citer que celui là !etc...😕

C'est bien pensé, très chargé mais tu auras toujours le loisir de ne pas faire tout ce qu'il y a de noté selon ton humeur.😛
Dommage une seule journée sur San Francisco, idéale pour se reposer en fin de voyage. J18 peu être raccourci...
Ca touche la perfection 😉 !
Juste quelques annotations:
J5 : le vol le matin est plus calme par expérience vécue
J6 matin : si bateau pour rainbow bridge tu n'auras pas le temps
J18 : un jour plein à death valley si c'est en été tu vas resté un maximum dans ta voiture sans trop sortir, tu peux alors abréger et déplacer ce jour ailleur, SF comme dit ci-dessus en vaut la peine
encore chargé !!! 😮 pour SFO c'est vrai qu'1 ou 2 journée en + (comme prévu sur précédente mouture) serait mieux, mais comment alléger encore ?? mis à part DEATH VALLEY : 1/2 journée le J 18 est suffisant ? j'aurais aimé voir (en plus des visites de routine) mozaic canyon...etc... bref s'il faut on coupe 😕

En ce qui concerne le bâteau je n'irai pas jusque raimbow bridge, j'avais prévu un petit tour d'1 h 30 jusque ANTELOPE CANYON (pas le slot) sais pas trop où cela se situe ....mais 1 h 30 me permettra ensuite d'aller à ANTELOPE CANYON (le slot cette fois) enfin je pense ..... pas facile d'organiser quand on ne connaît pas.

C'est bien là la "bêtise". En 2 voyages de 25 jours je n'ai pas fait tout ce qu'il y a dans ton programme. Reste comme ça dans ton projet, tu adapteras sur place. Cet été, j'ai été obligé de changer mon itinéraire à cause des orages qui avaient dégradé les routes 😕. Rainbow bridge n'est pas "immanquable".
T'aimes quoi dans la vie ?
Où avez vous trouver ce circuit? Dans une brochure de TO, Si c'est le cas je comprends mieux mais dommage que Fred n'est pas insisté pour vous dire qu'il est trop chargé. De plus faire des projets en passant par des pistes en plein été c'est très risqué. La Cottonwood road était fermée cet été et pendant deux semaines à cause des flash flood, j'ai prévenu Fred qui à pu s'organiser autrement mais quelques jours avant.
Vous n'aurez pas cette chance aussi il est quasi impossible de prévoir.
Ensuite tout va trop vite, vous roulez sans prendre le temps de visiter et vous ne verrez rien autrement que de la voiture, c'est vraiment très dommage.
Par exemple le J7 justement par la Cottonwood, il vous faudra partir vers 5h du mat, remonter jusqu'à l'embranchement puis taper la piste jusque la H12, mais en cours de route il y a des tas de balades à faire dont le Grovenor Arch que vous ne verrez pas. Ensuite pour Kodakrome avec les balades il faut un minimum de trois heures sans compter les arrêts casse-croûte.
Pour Willis Creek il faut déjà retrouver la piste et là ce n'est pas gagné, ensuite pour le slot il faut du temps, puis reprendre la piste et remonter sur Bryce où je pense vous allez dormir, a moins que vous fassiez du camping sur Willis Creek. Cette journée est impossible, pour un tel parcours je mets trois jours car je visite, à pied, et surtout le coucher et le lever de soleil sont importants pour la beauté des lieux.
J'ai l'impression que pour vos balades vous vous êtes inspiré du site de wavemaster, attention, ne pas confondre entre une personne qui visite ces endroits depuis plusieurs voyages et une première fois. J'ai bien peur que vous ne partiez dans une galère plus que crevante.
Bref, beau parcours autrement, mais il faudrait le faire sur deux voyages minimum.

Je n'ai pas dit que tu avais tout faux dans ton circuit, mais il est trop chargé car tu roules mais visiblement ces étapes de routes ne semblent pas être incluses comme temps perdu.
La vitesse aux USA n'a rien à voir avec celle pratiquée en Europe et surtout en France.
Les vitesses de 60 MPH sont très répandues et tu ne feras pas autant de route que ça. Il faut se méfier des sites qui te donnes des horaires.
Prenons encore cet exemple de ton parcours:
Las Vegas ==> Valley of Fire, environ 40 miles, une heure/ une heure trente mais c'est aussi aléatoire car il faut compter avec la circulation en sortie de LV et la I15 est très trés chargée le matin. la visite de VOF (environ 45 miles) demande trois bonnes heures et encore c'est sans compter les petites balades pour aller faire les photos de certains points intéressants.
La remontée de l'intersection VOF==> I15 ==> St Georges c'est encore 65miles mais tu peux compter une heure trente. Ensuite tu veux aller sur Snow Canyon qui n'est valable que si tu y es pour le lever ou mieux le coucher de soleil qui est rouge le soir en été, c'est magnifique mais il faut y aller et même en début d'AM il y a de la circulation sur St Georges, la visite su Canyon ne se fait pas à la japonaise et tu peux compter minimum deux heures si tu ne fais rien à pied. Après cela tu veux aller jusque Springdale environ 40miles de plus donc encore une heure car la ce n'est pas une autoroute. A moins que tu fasses tout ce parcours en hélico et que tu ne nous l'ais pas dit c'est encore possible 🙂.
Dans tout cela tu sortiras de ta voiture ou de ton hélico pour faire une photo puis vite vite on repart. Cet été j'ai dormi à St Georges en étant parti de LV à 7h00 du matin, nous avons déjeuner sur VOF puis continuer notre visite et sommes arrivés à St Georges vers 18h00 pour le coucher de soleil. Le lendemain nous sommes montés à Springdale puis ZION pour faire des balades toute la journée .
Deux jours et c'était juste pour faire tout ça, notre troisième jours à Zion fut plus reposant.
Bien compris, c'est vrai que j'ai surtout utilisé "MAPQUEST" pour juger des délais de route !!! mais la circulation .... ça ma échappé. Merci pour ce conseil.
Pour LV/VOF : j'avais changé la destination LV au lieu de SF afin de profiter un max du décallage horaire, et pensais donc partir aux aurores..... mais là aussi, copie à revoir ....
c'est très bien de m'avoir mis les points sur les "i" - ça du mal à rentrer, mais bon, je vais y arriver....

Déjà pour The Wave, faut décrocher le pass et je te vois mal enquiller un survol dans la foulée !!
En J10 : je vois pas vraiment l'intérêt d'aller coucher à Hanksville, autant passer 2 nuits à Torrey tranquillement.
Si tu veux vraiment faire ce circuit "hors sentiers battus", le 1er conseil serait de rien réserver entre J3 et J20 et d'y aller au feeling selon le temps et autres petits imprévus.
Je renchéris sur Vazyvite : une fois que tu auras vu Hanksville, l'idée d'y passer une nuit ne te viendra même plus. Le terme "ville" étant largement de trop dans le nom. c'est un endroit poussiéreux au milieu de nulle part et la tête du motel te donnera envie de fuir !

Sur ce genre de circuit "hors pistes" mieux vaut prévoir de la marge . C'est + délicat à gérer que les gros incontournables qui ne posent pas de problèmes d'accès avec des randos bien balisées.
C'est une contrainte supplémentaire mais ce sont des endroits qui se méritent aussi un peu + 😛
D'ailleurs je suis étonné que tu n'ai pas mis Cathedral Valley à Capitol Reef parce que si tu veux du pas banal, du "hors piste", du "waouuuuh" et pour amortir ton joli 4x4 ... c'est le truc à faire sur 1 journée.

C'est ça le sens de ma question. 😏 Il va falloir supprimer des choses alors. Mais comme je te l'ai dit précédemment, reste sur ce projet, surligne ce que tu veux absolument voir et hop, ça se fera automatiquement sur place.
Mais pour "Voir, Sentir, Toucher, Ecouter, Parler, ...... et Bouger" il faut du temps.
Pour les hôtels dans ces villes proches des grands parcs c'est complet longtemps en avance. Death Valley c'est même pas la peine d'y aller sans résa. Kayenta est le carefour pour Monument Valley et le retour ou l'aller sur Page, complet dès le mois de janvier/février. Pour mon dernier voyage tout a été bouclé début décembre, donc pour toi il te reste quelques jours 😉.
Mapquest donne de précieux renseignements pour les distances et c'est important. Mais je me répéte, les distances aux states ne sont pas avalées comme en France, la fatigue du décalage horaire avec un gros coup de bambou après le repas de midi, les arrêts photos, pipi, les embouteillages et j'en passe, les travaux sur les routes (bien souvent tu dois attendre 30' avant de passer comme sur la Death Valley ou dans Sequoia, non prévu dans mon carnet de route!) 😕. Il faut savoir être calme et ne pas vouloir tout avaler.
ok mis à part qq 'uns, on ne fera pas de réservation/motels. Comme je viens de le dire à Fred, je vais garder les incontournables et j'aviserai sur place selon temps disponible pour le reste ...😎😎😎
Quant à Cathédral Valley, je ne l'ai pas prévu, en raison du temps passé dans le 4/4 (j'ai lu 7 heures !!!!!! aïe aïe mon petit dos !!! ) et qui plus est, pistes pas très praticables (dixit mess forum) -

After that, we’re heading to Sherbrooke to visit our daughter, who’s studying at the university there. We’ll spend 3 days with her, and then, since she has a break that week, we’re taking her along for 3 days in Quebec City.
We’ve planned to visit Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans.
I’d love to hear what route you’d recommend for the drive from Sherbrooke to Quebec City—we’ll have the whole day to take it easy.

I know you can’t see into the future any better than I can, so I’m obviously not asking what the wildfire situation will be like in a month...
But if any of you could let me know if, CURRENTLY, there are major difficulties—not just for locals, of course, but for tourists as well?

A friend is renting a car for an upcoming trip during the All Saints' holiday.
Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

We went as a family to Mount Rushmore in 2023, where my son bought a multi-function pocket knife like the one below with his name engraved—'NOAH'.
Unfortunately, he just lost it, and he was really attached to it. So, if there’s a kind soul passing by Mount Rushmore who could bring one back for me (I’d obviously cover all costs), that would be amazing for my son.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I had planned a trip to Colorado in 2021 but canceled due to COVID, so with time passing and my eldest’s high school graduation approaching fast, I figured it was now or never!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. For those who’ve done both Lower and Upper, can you tell me if the price difference is really justified? Thanks

I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

Just a little post that might interest some of you:
Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
