Arrivée à Houston, retour depuis Miami, pour avoir des vols directs. Nous serons 4, dont 2 enfants de 13 et 15 ans. Location de voiture à l'arrivée.

Le circuit vous semble-t-il cohérent par rapport au nombre de jours ? Des étapes sont elles inutiles ? Peut-on regrouper certaines étapes pour gagner 1 ou 2 journées au final ?
Je suis un peu perdue sur la partie Layette/Houma/Bâton Rouge/ Nouvelle Orléans avec les plantations, comment faire au mieux ?
Idem pour la fin du circuit entre Miami et Key west/Key Largo ?
En J16 : Peut-on supprimer l'étape "Wakylla Springs" et faire directement Apalachicola - Crystal River ? L'idéal serait de pouvoir passer plus de nuits dans certains hôtels et d'avoir une journée de plus à Miami.
A noter sur Orlando, nous ne sommes pas fans des grands parcs d'attractions, nous souhaitons juste visiter Cap Canaveral.
Je ne vous détaille pas les visites, j'ai pioché à droite et à gauche dans les différents posts.
Quel itinéraire ! ;-) Cela fait combien de kms ? Souhaitez-vous vraiment que ce soit surtout un road trip avec pas mal d'heures de route au quotidien ?
J'aurais du mal à réagir dans le détail car j'ai passé 2 semaines en Louisiane (enfin, jusqu'à Memphis) et 2 semaines en Floride mais c'étaient deux voyages différents. Nous avions déjà eu l'impression de faire beaucoup de route.
Cap Canaveral (qui, cela dit, se fait facilement dans la journée même avec l'aller-retour depuis Orlando) est sur la côte Est, il y a de la route depuis Orlando. Cela va vous faire traverser l'Etat dans l'autre sens vers l'Ouest le lendemain. Key West-florida city, c'est 3h. Key West-Miami sans trafic, c'est 4h.
Si vous n'avez pas peur des kms, je ne veux pas vous démotiver ;-)
Je ne peux te renseigner que sur le début de l'itinéraire. Je ne vois pas bien l'intérêt d'arriver à Houston pour repartir aussitôt derrière. Il manque 1 ou 2 nuits à San Antonio, il y a pas mal à voir : la route des Missions, la Tower of the Americas, The Alamo, la maison des gouverneurs espagnols, les canaux, ...
Bandera je ne dis rien je n'y suis pas passée.
Même si tu ne visites pas Austin à fond, la ville demande au moins une journée complète pour voir quelques spots touristiques, donc 2 nuits sur place.
Fort Worth, c'est pareil, entre les petits musées westerns et les activités (rodéo, bull riding, une soirée au honky tonk Billy Bob's... 2 nuits sur place c'est tout de même un minimum.
Cette partie de l'itinéraire au Texas est infaisable en si peu de temps, ça va être une course contre la montre.
Note aussi que dans le sud en juillet il va faire très-très chaud.

Voir mon blog 2013 ci-dessous dont le fichier "programme de visites"...
Les jours ci-dessus me choquent:
- tu descends sur Houma pour remonter à Bâton Rouge et redescendre sur Nola = pas judicieux !
- Baton Rouge peu d'intérêt par rapport au reste.
- Houma: ville pas folichonne...
En J10 faire plutôt le bayou du Lac Martin puis St Martinville, Avery Island et New Iberia (y dormir).
En J11 rejoindre Houmas House plantation, puis la route des plantations (Oak Alley, Laura, San Francisco au choix) nuit à Nola.
En J12 ça t'ajoute un 2ème jour à Nola qui est indispensable.
- Concernant l'arrivée à Houston, c'était juste pour le vol direct, mais on peut aussi arriver à San Antonio (vol avec 1 escale, durée 13h30 environ, par American Airlines) pour un tarif similaire. Ceci nous éviterait les 3h de route le lendemain matin. Je n'ai pas encore réservé les billets d'avion, donc nous avons encore un peu de souplesse, mais je pense le faire dans le courant de la semaine.
- Pour les kms, cela ne nous fait pas peur. Nous avons fait l'an dernier, à la même période et la même durée l'Ouest Américain (San Francisco - Yosemite - Mammoth - Las Vegas - Torrey - Moab - Page - Tusayan - Los Angeles et bien sûr tous les parcs en chemin), soit un peu plus de 5 000 kms. Nous n'avons pas eu l'impression de passer notre temps dans la voiture. Bien sûr, certains lieux n'ont pas été approfondis, mais c'est notre choix pour le moment et nous y retournerons certainement. L'an dernier nous avions nos 3 ados avec nous et il vaut mieux que ce soit rythmé ! Lorsque nous voyagerons sans nos enfants, on prendra le temps .... Le circuit de l'été prochain représente environ le même nombre de kms.
- La chaleur : si les températures sont similaires à celles de l'Ouest en juillet/août, c'est faisable.

- J'ai pris note des remarques sur le Texas, je vais voir pour modifier le nombre de jours sur Austin et Fort Worth, peut être supprimer Bandera ... C'était juste pour la journée en Ranch qui me semblait sympa, mais on peut sans doute trouver des activités similaires ailleurs.
- Merci également PapJ pour la partie Louisiane, c'est là ou je patauge un peu, ça me permet d'y voir plus clair. Et comme pour Lili, je mets votre blog en favoris pour les idées de visite.
Autre question : comme nous voyageons avec 2 ados de 13 et 15 ans, certains lieux vont nous être refusés d'accès je suppose : Bars, restaurants, etc ... Avez-vous des conseils, des lieux qui acceptent les enfants. Nous avions eu le cas l'an dernier à Las Vegas et dans un restau je ne sais plus où, qui n'acceptait pas les mineurs.
Ce n'est pas tellement les km le problème, tout le monde peut rouler beaucoup. Mais il faut surtout qu'il reste du temps pour les visites.
A San Antonio, rien que la route des missions prend 1/2 journée. Compte également en gros 1/2 journée pour voir la maison des gouverneurs, The Alamo, le centre-ville + 1 soirée sur les canaux. Donc 2 nuits, ça me semble vraiment un minimum. 2 nuits dans une ville, ce n'est jamais qu'une seule journée sur place.

Ce n'est pas du tout le même climat, c'est subtropical. Il fera très chaud, certes, mais ça sera surtout humide. Dans l'ouest, la chaleur est sèche et nettement plus supportable, ça n'a absolument rien à voir. Je n'ai jamais souffert de la chaleur dans l'ouest même en randonnant (des voyages en septembre). Mais à Austin et San Antonio (en octobre dernier), ce fut difficile. Faut pas craindre la moiteur et et les moustiques.

- 2 nuit à Naples n'est-ce pas trop ? ou est-il plus judicieux d'enlever 1nuit à Naples et de rajouter ainsi 1 nuit à Miami ?
- A Fort Worth, j'ai lu qu'il y avait des rodéos les vendredi et samedis soir, est-ce bien le cas et faut-il réserver à l'avance ? Les rodéos se déroulent toute l'année ou il y a des saisons ?
- Savez-vous si l'on peut assister à une soirée au" Honky Tonk Billy Bob's" avec des enfants (13 et 15 ans) ?
- Même question sur Lafayette : les mineurs sont-ils acceptés dans les soirées "Fais Do-do" ?
Pour la partie Texas, l'itinéraire est nettement mieux équilibré. 🙂 (le reste je ne connais pas donc je me tais).

Pour ma part, j'avais réservé (dans le courant de l'été 2016 pour octobre), mais je voulais faire une surprise à mon mari avec des places VIP (elles sont en nombre limité). Une fois là bas, il restait plein de places (mais pas de VIP), mais c'était en automne donc... En été, j'ignore s'il vaut mieux réservé ou pas. Sur place en revanche, on a acheté des places (l'après-midi pour le soir) pour le Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show.
Le Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show est sympa mais le rodéo est nettement plus excitant (compétions, ambiance assez folle, etc...).
Si toutefois tu réserves le rodéo : j'ai dû faire le paiement par paypal. Ensuite, il faut bien imprimer et avoir avec toi le reçu que tu recevras par email car ça te permettra de récupérer tes places (sans cela, tu ne pourras pas).

Oui, c'est très familial. La seule condition c'est que les mineurs doivent tout le temps rester avec les adultes (et évidemment on ne leur vendra pas d'alcool ! 😏 ). C'est très grand, hormis la piste de danse et scène de concert country, et les bars et billards, il y a des jeux pour les enfants, un restaurant, boutiques souvenirs... il y a aussi des concours de Bull Riding le vendredi et le samedi à 21 h 00 et à 22 h 00 (4 $ mais par personne)... ambiance typique là encore, on s'est bien amusés (et c'est l'occasion de discuter avec les américains).
Vous pouvez aussi vous faire prendre en photo en famille sur un faux taureau (quelques accessoires de costumes fournis). Ça on ne l'a pas fait, je ne connais pas le prix, mais toutes les familles qu'on voyait s'éclataient comme des petits fous.
En prime, tous les jeudis soirs, il y a une initiation à la danse en ligne (c'est gratuit). On voulait le faire mais on n'est arrivé trop tard le jeudi soir.
Bref, y'a largement de quoi passer une longue et amusante soirée en famille.
Sinon, ne pas rater le défilé des longhorns dans la rue, c'est tous les jours à 11 h 30 et à 16 h 00. Et une bonne façon de les revoir, c'est de se balader sur les rampes au dessus des enclos. C'est en libre accès.
Sur Exchange Ave, possibilité pour les enfants de faire une balade à cheval accompagné d'un cavalier, pour les familles des tours en diligence...
Il y a des gunfights gratuits à heure fixe à la gare (là où il y a tous les magasins). A la fin du show, contre une petit billet vert, séance photo avec les cowboys, ça fait un souvenir.
Fort Worth est hyper touristique, mais moi j'ai adoré. Faut juste profiter de l'instant et s'amuser.

Classic itinerary: arrival in Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, Vancouver Island, departure from Vancouver.
I know you can’t see into the future any better than I can, so I’m obviously not asking what the wildfire situation will be like in a month...
But if any of you could let me know if, CURRENTLY, there are major difficulties—not just for locals, of course, but for tourists as well?
We’re hesitating between taking the chance or canceling what we still can.
We’re not young anymore and don’t have the flexibility we once did...

A friend is renting a car for an upcoming trip during the All Saints' holiday.
Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?
We went as a family to Mount Rushmore in 2023, where my son bought a multi-function pocket knife like the one below with his name engraved—'NOAH'.
Unfortunately, he just lost it, and he was really attached to it. So, if there’s a kind soul passing by Mount Rushmore who could bring one back for me (I’d obviously cover all costs), that would be amazing for my son.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
