Back in Thailand at Sukhothai, which was the capital of the first Thai kingdom founded in 1238. Its sanctuaries built up until the 14th century are still revered by Buddhists today.

Wat Si Chum and its 14th-century seated Buddha, which stands 14.7 meters tall, with its fingernails covered in gold leaf by devotees.

The Sukhothai Historical Park is home to many ruins, like this chedi reflected in a pond.

The "Walking Buddha" is the iconic representation of Buddha in the Sukhothai style.

We're heading back to Europe, specifically Italy, stopping by Pisa and its Romanesque cathedral, which began construction in 1064 and was completed in the mid-12th century. It's famous for its bell tower, which has been leaning since the start of its construction.

Below: Pisa's baptistery is the largest in Italy. The first two floors are Romanesque, while the arcades are Gothic.

In the vast cloister of the cemetery, the Romanesque arcades were later modified into Gothic four-light windows.

The cathedral of Lucca is also in the Tuscan Romanesque style.

Still in Tuscany but further south, the cathedral of Siena is Gothic. It's hard to get enough distance to photograph it properly. The colors of its polychrome marble façade really stand out in the late afternoon sun. The bell tower features the black-and-white colors of Siena’s city coat of arms.

Beautiful contrast between the Orthodox monasteries and this modern mosque. Mosques have such graphic shapes that are a pleasure to photograph, with intricate geometric designs. I haven’t been to Iran, but I really enjoyed Uzbekistan. I’ll post a few of my shots 😉

I love this! I’ve always found our churches closed, dark, and sometimes austere. I prefer other places of worship that feel more "alive." Yours are so much more welcoming than usual 🙂

our closed, dark, sometimes austere churches

That's true... but they're also often cool in summer 😛, and besides, after visiting quite a few in Puglia, I found the interiors surprisingly varied (maybe less so in France). But they often remain the heart of the village, like in: Labeaume (Drôme):

Some churches in Naples and on the Amalfi Coast In Naples, there are loads of churches in the historic center, but I didn’t get much distance to take photos of the exteriors... and they’re often tagged up to 2 meters high, just like all the buildings in the neighborhood!

Two rooms, two vibes... 😛

On one side, the rooftops of St. Peter’s Basilica and its square—XXL!

And on the other, a modest church in a small village in the Philippines, surrounded by XXS rice fields instead.

You should’ve gone during Covid—sure, we wore masks and museum hours were shorter, but St. Mark’s Square was almost empty. The photo isn’t edited; I didn’t remove anyone 😏. The Campanile reflects in the acqua alta. We even got lucky with MOSE, which lifted just in time for our departure because of the high tide. Otherwise, we would’ve had to carry our suitcases on our heads, and I hadn’t trained for that!

Good evening,

Unless I'm mistaken or missed something, I can't find the practical details such as:

- How long can we post our photos?

- When can we start and stop voting?

Thanks!

Photo taken around 6 AM on Monday, May 6, 2002. Not a soul in sight! Just one or two pigeons!! I was all alone in Saint Mark’s Square in front of the basilica of the same name. Such pride!

Same day but a little later, view of the basilica’s rooftop from the top of the campanile.

This is the Collegiate Church of Saint Bartholomew in Liège (Belgium): the two towers and a detail.

11th and 12th century, so Romanesque. I read on-site that it’s "Mosan art or style." A restoration was done in the 2000s to restore the building’s original polychromy. I haven’t seen anything similar elsewhere, but in these valleys (Meuse, Rhine) at the crossroads of Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands, I’ve only been to Liège.

I said I’d post some photos of religious monuments in Uzbekistan—mosques and madrasas that were decommissioned by the USSR but have since been beautifully restored. Here are a few shots I hope will inspire some of you to visit this welcoming country where the food is also amazing! ;) Check out the travel journal Bibouns51 has been posting on this forum lately too!
