Hi there, I’m looking for a driver for a day in March to take us to the Oukaïmeden ski resort and bring us back. There’ll be 4 adults and 4 kids. Does anyone have a contact? Thanks!

Jamal, nicknamed "Obama," drove us around Marrakech all weekend in a brand-new vehicle at very competitive prices. We were 8 adults and a 5-year-old child. I highly recommend him! 0021268561030 – he’s on WhatsApp

Hi there,

It’s far from guaranteed that you’ll be able to ski if that’s your goal! Some years, skiing isn’t possible at all. Otherwise, March is quite late in the season.

Otherwise, it’s still a nice mountain walk....

Hi there, Yes, we know about the snow, but if there’s no snow, we’ll just go for a walk!

Thanks dan49ch But his number doesn’t work on WhatsApp—are you sure about the number?

But seeing donkeys used as ski lifts to then descend over the rocks that stick out everywhere—sometimes with mismatched skis—was quite a sight... 😄

The real joy, though, is when the chairlift is open. For around 50 or 60 MAD, I think the ride is totally worth it...

The best part is that the chairlift is open.... For about 50 or 60 MAD, I think the trip is totally worth it...

😂 We're totally on the same page...

The video's from 2014, but I don’t think attitudes have changed since I had this image in my head of a young guy hanging from the seat... The others managed to pull him up... What stood out the most was the laughter and applause from the people behind...

That said, they don’t just throw themselves at tourists’ seats... 😅... Well, I *hope* they don’t...🤪

Oh, and while I’ve got you—do you know where the trail leads from the chairlift?

Hi Agnes,

I’m in the same boat—could you share the driver’s number with me, please?

Thanks a bunch, Thierry

Oh, the forum is back open? Cool. Hi Agnes, You don’t really need a driver—you can just take a shared taxi. You’ll find them on Rue des Princes, across from Hôtel Tazi. It should be around 40 MAD, though that’s the price for Setti-Fatma. Maybe a bit more for Oukaïmeden, per person. Otherwise, there’s also bus 25 near the Koutoubia for 7.50 MAD per person. It’ll take you to Lagreb or Ourika Center (on Google Maps), and from there, you can catch another minibus. If you *really* want a driver, I can ask a taxi buddy of mine. He lives near Oukaïmeden, super nice, but he’s expensive! I can ask him for the price—he’s taking me to Marrakech tomorrow to pick up a garden set. As for the snow, last year was a bust—we didn’t get a single flake. This year, I was thrilled it snowed, but sniff, it’s already melted. No big deal, though—you can still take great hikes without snow. The chairlift? In eight years, I’ve never seen it work. Again, no big deal—you can hike up. FYI, the road was just redone. There’s a really nice roundabout now before the road up to Oukaïmeden. It’s not finished yet, but it’s coming along! Have a great trip.

Thanks so much, Louvilunne—I’ll definitely keep that in mind. The path is getting clearer little by little, which is reassuring and exciting! You live in Marrakech? I’m staying there for 15 days and feeling a bit lost! If there are other French folks who aren’t just tourists and want to share deeper experiences with fellow Morocco lovers, I’m all in!!! See you soon!!

Hi Thierry, No, I don’t live in Marrakech—I live in the Ourika Valley, in the Atlas Mountains. So I’m not too far from Oukaimeden. Feel free to reach out when you’re in the valley. French but not a tourist. I’ve been a resident for 10 years… and I love my adopted valley. Juliette

Hi,

Could you explain how to get from Marrakech to Oukaïmeden by shared taxi? Thanks for your tips,

Hello,

Could you explain how to get from Marrakech to Oukaimden by shared taxi? Thanks for your advice,

Hi Leouh

If you want to take a grand taxi to Oukaimeden, you can find one near Jemaa El Fna square, on Rue des Princes, opposite Hôtel Tazi. They take up to 7 people. Just say you're going to Oukaimeden. For Setti-Fatma, it's 30 dirhams per person, but I'm not sure about Oukaimeden—probably a bit more.

You'll need to wait until the taxi is full.

You can also take the bus.

If you take the bus, you need to catch bus number 25 behind the Koutoubia. It's the bus heading to Lagreb, and it costs 7 dirhams per person. In Lagreb (or Ourika Centre on Google Maps), you'll need to get off and switch to a minibus. It's the second-to-last stop before Tnine.

I don’t know if you’re planning to go this week, but if you are, make sure to bundle up. It’s been raining and freezing all week—meaning snow up there.

Have a good evening.

Thanks for your detailed reply. We’re planning to go on Thursday and sleep in the valley that evening. Hoping there’ll be snow!!!
