Il s'agit d'une épidémie pas trop fréquent dans les tout-inclus si c'est le tupe de vacances que tu feras et aux environs si tu bouges dehors seulement éviter les quartiers où il y a beaucoup de saleté.

Il faut éviter les moustiques.
Il n'aiment pas:
Le vent, le bord de mer, les ventilateurs.
Le froid, la clim les calme.
Dans les régions à touristes ils traitent correctement.
Donc pour les touristes normalement pas trop de problème.
A San Cristobal d'où est partie l'épidémie et où je réside. Il n'y a pas eu de traitement sauf dans un quartier friqué, ça n'a pas empêcher les gens friqués de se faire piquer coté pauvre. Pour camoufler leur incompétence ils on même lancé la rumeur que c'était chimique et non dû aux moustiques. Avec cette rumeur déjà que le dominicain moyen n'est pas trop prévention, les moustiques ont eu la vie belle. Vu les revenus locaux, les personnes infectées ne vont pas chez le médecin et attendent que ça passe, le bon coté des choses c'est qu'ils ne rentrent pas dans les statistiques. Dans un rayon de 15m autour de ma chambre il y a eu 17 cas, j'avais fourni pour le préventif, pas de bol avec la rumeur. Si on veut faire un film de zombies c'est pas les figurants qui manquent depuis un mois.
Symptômes: Pendant environ 3 jours les articulations qui font mal, fièvre et parfois démangeaisons.
Soins: Paracétamol appelé ici acetaminofen (pour les enfants c'est acetaminofen liquido por ninos)
Pourquoi je n'ai pas choppé le chikungunya? J'ai l'esprit un peu plus prévention, donc moustiquaire, ventilateur, chasse aux moustiques et surtout OFF un reppellent local très efficace, c'est un spray orange qui coute 400 pesos, on le trouve partout. J'en avais refilé aux voisins mais ils ont moins de rigueur et la rumeur n'a pas aidé, ils ont été mouché.
Si vous allez dans la cambrousse comme moi, le cadeau utile en ce moment c'est le paracétamol, je doit être à 6ème ou 7ème boite de cent, c'est vrai que je connais du monde n'ayant pas les moyens de se soigner.

Je suis actuellement sur place.
Il est important d'acheter, dès votre arrivée, une bombe de "off". Ca se trouve dans tous les colmados ou superettes. Ne comptez pas sur les produits vendus en France en pharmacie : le soir de mon arrivée, donc avant d'acheter une bombe de "off, je m'étais aspergé du répulsif français, labellisé "tropic", en pharmacie. Les moustiques ont aimé en apéritif......
Donc, tant que vous n'avez pas de "off", manches longues, pantalon, chaussettes, et/ou climatisation ou ventilateur ou moustiquaire.

Je suis environné d'une majorité de gens qui ont ou qui ont eu le chikungunya il y a moins de 10 jours donc encore contagieux. (à vue de nez ça dépasse les 50-60% localement).
Ma tenue la plus courante en ce moment c'est short et torse nu car je bricole pas mal.
Avec un humidex qui se ballade entre 41-45° en ce moment, dès que l'on bouge un peu les vêtements ne sont pas trop supportables.
Il y a peut être des vacanciers qui viennent en RD pour avoir un léger bronzage, si c'est pour être complètement habillé, l'Ecosse est plus proche et plus conseillée car la température et humidité sont moins gênantes.
Donc OFF, il protègera aussi des puces des sables.
Le OFF est très efficace si on l'applique bien, sinon le moustique va trouver l'endroit où il en manque. (chevilles et poignées ils adorent)
Depuis le début de l'épidémie pas une seule piqure malgré ma tenue, je m'applique et voir la gueule que font les malades ça motive.

Vous pouvez avoir, au même endroit, à seulement 1 km d'écart, un hôtel tout inclus qui fait la chasse aux eaux stagnantes (nid des moustiques) et un autre qui n'y prête aucune attention. Donc, dans l'un, les moustiques prolifèrent dans les eaux stagnantes (canalisation d'eau usées ouvertes, caniveaux, coupelles sous des pots de fleurs etc....) et dans l'autre, pas ou peu de moustiques.
Cette maladie est une maladie exclusivement transmise par les moustiques (et donc liée à la présence d'eaux stagnantes) et n'a donc aucun rapport avec la saleté.
Les mesures de prévention sont simples et efficaces. C'est plus facile de se protéger de cette maladie que d'une épidémie de grippe en France.....

Pas entendu parler de dengue, souvent à la première alerte et quand j'ai une validation je prévient ce site.
La dengue est effectivement endémique à certains endroits en RD mais il n'y a pas d'épidémie.
A part la dengue de type 3, une grosse partie de la population est immunisée.
C'est pas trop dans la culture dominicaine la prévention contre les moustiques quand on voit tout les récipients balancés dans la nature ou dans la rue, les stocks de pneus ect.... Deux fois par semaine j'ai la femme de ménage qui vient, ça fait des mois que je lui dit de mettre les seaux à l'envers, elle répond toujours oui mais le fait pas. J'ai un pulvérisateur avec de l'eau de javel, deux fois par semaine je fait ma tournée des endroits à risques. Je vais aussi chez les voisins, ils trouvent cela très bien mais pas au point de le faire eux même.
Ici l'éradication d'une maladie ce fait plus par l'immunisation suite à la maladie que par la prévention. Il y a un énorme fatalisme vis à vis de la maladie, au début de l'épidémie j'avais donné des kits insecticide/OFF, les sprays on été employés épisodiquement, la plupart on choppé le chikungunya. A début de l'épidémie de chikungunya qui était très localisée il n'y a pas eu de fumigation par manque d'argent sois disant (< à 1000€) à ce moment là j'ai dis cela couterait entre 50 et 200 millions de $ à l'économie dominicaine, on verra d'ici quelques mois, vu l'absentéisme je ne devrait pas être loin de la vérité.

Je vis plus de la moitié de l'année à Las Terrenas, voici que je rentre en France.
Ne t'inquiète surtout pas et passe de bonnes vacances.
Tu sais , la presse et peut être aussi trop de " jaloux " lancent des bruits en exagérant beaucoup!!!!
Rassure toi , même avec une piqûre ce moustique ne donne pas la dingue, juste 2 ou 3 jours d'un peu de fièvre, comme une petite grippe.
Achète sur place (pas ici dans les pharmacies )une bombe OFF orange dans les grandes surface pour quelques euros et le soir tu seras tranquille. Où vas tu en RD j'espère que tu as choisi la région de Samana et non les voyages proposés par tous les hôtels bétons des 2 ou 3 régions touristiques mais où il n'y a rien à faire que du cucu plage... We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?

I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.
After all that, and even though I’ll obviously contact the relevant authorities in each country (fingers crossed for a response 😛), here’s my question: Has anyone here had any experience with this? (Even if it’s a different medication or different countries, any input would be helpful!)

I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.
After all that, and even though I’ll obviously contact the relevant authorities in each country (fingers crossed for a response 😛), here’s my question: Has anyone here had any experience with this? (Even if it’s a different medication or different countries, any input would be helpful!)

We’d like to know if there’s a real risk of Zika contamination on those islands, because from what we’ve found online, the recorded cases are old and come from the Sotavento Islands.
We’re thinking about canceling our trip.

I have several chronic conditions (including asthma and related ones), and I’m planning to travel for a year across different countries.
Generally, I understand it’s possible to travel with approved medications (which should be my case), but often with a limit of 3 months’ worth of treatment.
Since I’m going for 12 months, that means for three-quarters of my trip, I’d have more than 3 months’ worth of medication.
I plan to bring my prescriptions with the INN (International Nonproprietary Name), as well as the original packaging (even though it’s a nightmare, but from what I understand, it’s necessary). But I’m not sure if that’s enough...
Have any of you been in this situation before? How does it work at customs—do I need to declare everything that exceeds the 3-month limit? Do I need a letter from my doctors?

I often have unexplained allergies and need to follow a daily treatment for my diabetes (insulin). I think I can get authorization from my doctor to travel for 6 months with the treatment—is that correct? After those 6 months, is it possible (instead of bothering a relative to send the medication) to see a foreign doctor to get another 6-month travel authorization? How does it work at the airport? Do I need just one medication transport authorization, or do I have to request a new one in each country (once the treatment runs out) for both the flight and a DCI? We’ve planned a 3-week trip to Bali this summer with our 7-year-old daughter. The itinerary includes Sanur, Nusa Lembongan, Sidemen, Amed, and Ubud. The more time passes, the more we read about people getting sick—some with mild to severe traveler’s diarrhea, and many ending up in the hospital. We, as parents, have been through it in Egypt with pretty bad cases, but we’d really like to avoid that for our daughter.
