je prépare un petit tour en californie, et notamment 2, 3 jours sur LA. J'aurai souhaité vos avis/commentaires avisés concernant le logement. je sais que los angeles est tres tres grand.
Je serai vehiculé, mais ne souhaite pas specialement conduire au sein de LA meme, ni meme entre Beverly, LA, et les plages...
Au programme de ces quelques jours : visite de LA downtown, de beverly hills, de rodeo drive etc... ( pas de parc ni disney, ni disney studio), et aussi farniente sur les bords de l'ocean. nous voudrions aussi un peu de sortie le soir !!! Que me conseillez vous comme spot central pour me loger? Venice beach, mais dans ce cas la puis je rejoindre facilement LA, ou Beverly en transports en commun? ou faut il mieux LA downtown, mais il parait que parfois ca craint la nuit? ou Beverly?

Je t'assure, la meilleure façon de découvrir Los Angeles, c'est en voiture... Perso, je te conseillerai de laisser les transports en communs à ceux qui n'ont malheureusement pas d'autre choix... 😉
Pour le logement, Santa Monica est sympa... Sinon, comme je l'ai déjà écrit tout à l'heure dans un autre message, nous aimons bien les quartiers de Beverly Hills ou West Hollywood car bien situés au niveau des intérêts touristiques de L.A.

Par habitude est ce une bonne idée decouper la poire en deux, et de faire 1 nuit a west hollywood ( des adresses a proposer?) et 1 ou 2 nuits a santa monica ... au moins on pourra voir differentes choses?

Je viens de préparer moi aussi 3 jours à LA en septembre prochain. Sur la base de toutes les infos de VF et de plusieurs guides, je suis arrivé aux conclusions suivantes : impossible de se passer de la voiture pour voir le max de choses en 3 jours. Il y a quasi unanimité pour dire que les transports en commun sont à éviter. Si ça te stresse de conduire à LA, pourquoi ne pas te prendre un GPS pour qu'il te guide ? les distances sont longues. Donc il est important de bien choisir les emplacements de son/ses hôtels. L'idée de prendre un hôtel à West Hollywood puis un à Santa Monica est tentante si ça te te gêne pas de faire et défaire tes valises. 😉
Pour m'en sortir et me décider, je me suis créé une carte de LA sur googlemap en repérant tous les sites que je voulais voir.
Ainsi, j'ai pu établir un circuit logique, pu définir les endroits intéressants pour les hotels et surtout, ça m'a donné une idée des distances à parcourir. 🤪
Te conseiller un hôtel est difficile puisque tout dépend de ton budget et de tes critères de confort. La zone de Santa Monica n'est pas la moins chère.... 😕 Et le parking est rarement inclus.
Mais il y a pire dans la vie que de se préparer 3 jours à LA.... 😎

pour les valises peu importe, sur deux semaines nous allons pas mal bougé donc je me suis faite a l'idée! =)
GPS on a, donc on se décidera surement a prendre la voiture.
Si je peux t'embeter un peu plus, quels sont selon toi, les points touristiques les plus important a voir a LA? Nous ne sommes pas trop musée, mais plutot du genre a flanner et decouvrir les quartiers et rues !

Etant allé à LA en septembre dernier, je peux te donner qq conseilles. j'ai fait un circuit d'1 mois à travers la californie, le nevada et la floride. J'ai fait une halte de 3 nuits à LA. Et je confirme ce qu'il t'a déjà été dit. LA sans voiture, n y pense même pas. les distances sont énorme. et LA est une ville très mal déservie par les transports plublics. pour te donner un exemple. de hollywood à santa monica, tu fais environ 1h de voiture. pour ma part, j'ai fait 1 jour Universal studio, 1 jour santa monica / venice beach et 1 jour West hollywood / Beverly hills.
pour ce qui est de l'hotel, je te conseille le Days inn sur sunset Bvd à West hollywood. petit hotel sympa avec une petite piscine pour les fins de journée. de là, tu es proche de Melrose Avenue. (magasins) Hollywood Bvd (Chineese theather, Walk of frame, que tu peux même rejoindre à pied) ainsi que sunset bvd (Bar, les restos connus, Raimbow, Roxy, Wiskhy à gogo...) evites d'aller loger à venice car le soir, c'est very craignos...
Nous avions même pas de GPS, seulement une carte routière et c'est très simple de rouler et de trouver les endroits que tu cherches. Et n'oublies pas, la conduite n'est pas comme en france, ca roule tranquille les gens sont cool... t'es en californie quoi.

Salut! Si vous êtes sportif, un footing ou une promenade en beach bike à Long beach, c'est grandiose! Petit tour autour d'un bras de mer où sont installées de belles maisons avec le yacht devant la porte...On a dormi sur Sunset Bd "renaissance hotel " super classe avec piscine sur le toit pour la fin de journée..Pas de pb avec la voiture, c'est un réal avec le GPS.

Tu te trompes car la voiture à Los Angeles est tout sauf une galère bien au contraire, la circulation y est facile et les gens au volant sont vraiment cools.
Les transports en commun vont t’emmener d’un point à un autre ok, mais entre deux tu vas rater pleins de trucs (Mulholland Drive, les collines d’Hollywood, essayer de s’approcher d’Hollywood Sign, les quartiers de Brentwood et Bel Air, Sunset Boulevard… et j’en passe…)
Et d’ailleurs, si tu prévois de faire un tour dans le quartier des villas de Beverly Hills, laisse-moi te dire que même les voitures de patrouille qui se chargent de surveiller le quartier vont trouver le fait que vous soyez à pied suspect et ne vont certainement pas manquer de venir à votre rencontre … Véridict.
Enfin… A mon avis, tu ne te rendras vraiment compte du fait que L.A. est vraiment faite pour se déplacer en voiture qu’une fois que vous serez sur place ! Dans tous les cas, je vous souhaite bien du courage si vous choisissez l’option de vous déplacer avec les transports en commun ! 😉

Sur une si courte durée, très franchement non… ! Perso, je vois cela plutôt comme une perte de temps (check out, se trimballer les bagages, trouver ton hôtel, check in) que comme un avantage.
Si tu réserves ton hôtel à West Hollywood, je pense que la situation du quartier est parfaite comme point de départ afin de visiter aisément tous les intérêts touristiques de la ville.
à Santa Monica, l'hôtel Pacific Sands n'était pas trop cher, avec un parking. Il donne sur l'océan, à 2 pas du centre (3rd st promenade) animé le soir, et du pier de Sta Monica. Juste à côté, le Travelodge, même style. Un peu plus bas de l'autre côté du pier vers Venice, Bayside et d'autres un peu partout. L'endroit est très sympa. A côté du pier, accès direct au freeway 10, qui mène à LA, etc. et Sta Monica bd qui va à Beverly et Hollywood.
Voiture indispensable. La circulation à LA n'a rien à voir avec celle de NY. Avenues larges, freeway de 4 ou 5 voies par côté. Voie de gauche souvent réservée aux voitures transportant 3 personnes. Je préfère 100 x conduire à LA qu'à Paris.
Pour les coins à voir, super maisons à Beverly, ainsi que les hauts de Hollywood, Sta Monica bien sûr et Venice Beach à 3 km au sud. Crystal cathedral, vers Disney, messe du dimanche avec choeurs.
Comme Gunners et Kathydjé, j'avais choisi un hôtel sur Sunset Boulevard à West Hollywwod (Best Western, parking payant) et l'emplacement était très commode pour rayonner à partir de là.
J'avais également passé une nuit à Santa Monica mais l'hôtel (Best Western, également) était vraiment très bruyant. Si je me souviens bien, il y avait un IHOP juste à côté 😉

A l'époque (janvier 2000), il était en travaux, donc nous avions obtenu un très bon prix à cause de ça (aux environs de 70 $ si je me souviens bien). Il est sûrement plus cher maintenant.
L'accueil avait été très sympa; nous étions arrivés vers 10h du matin et la jeune fille à la réception nous avait offert le petit déjeuner buffet !
Nous étions dans une chambre qui donnait sur un terrain vague jouxtant l'hôtel et au bout du couloir, il y avait une porte-fenêtre qui donnait sur la ville en contrebas : splendide au lever et au coucher du soleil !
Je ne me souviens plus très bien du prix du parking, peut-être une douzaine de dollars par nuit... Je demanderai à mon mari. Mais là aussi, ça a dû bien augmenter... 😕
L'entrée du parking se fait par la petite rue en dessous.
Non loin, sur Sunset Boulevard, il y avait un restaurant dans un wagon de chemin de fer. on se serait cru dans un film des années 60 😏 J'espère qu'il existe toujours !

Pour le parking, j'ai lu sur Trip Advisor justement, dans une critique, que c'était 10 dollars par jour ce qui me semblait correct. J'espère que ça sera pas beaucoup plus! 😕. Car si ya vraiment un truc que j'aime pas c'est devoir payer pour garer sa voiture 😉
En tout cas le quartier a l'air sympa et assez proche (en comparaison de l'étendue de l'agglomération de LA) des studios Universal, Warner Bros etc...

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

Cinder Cone and Painted Dunes (Day 4)
Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?
After our first trip to the West, we’d love to go back to see other must-see spots!

Also, we’re all set—passports are good. Do you think one classic Visa card and one premium Visa card will be enough for coverage?

Just a little post that might interest some of you:

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.

The price of the pass is jumping from 80 € to 250 € on January 1st, 2026!!!
Is it possible to buy the pass online before the end of the year to lock in the 80 € rate? If so, where and how do I go about it?
