Folded passport with American Airlines

hi, I had to buy flight tickets for the family, but when I picked up the adults' passports, I noticed that one of them had a fold down the length of pages 1 and 2—affecting the photo, info, and even the barcode.

The passport hasn’t been touched since our last trip to the US, and sure enough, the customs officers just shoved the ticket back and didn’t pay attention.

Do you think it’ll be okay with American Airlines? It says no passports with abnormal wear or damage.

I don’t live too far from Roissy—could I go check with the airline if the thing is still readable?

Has anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Just folded? Well... A few days under a stack of dictionaries should do the trick. Your passport is perfectly valid based on what you're describing.

thanks, yeah, it already spent the night under the dictionary, so we can see a mark, but the page is straight—just a faint line from an old crease on it. It’s straighter than yesterday

Hi Mena1,

Your post is a bit old, but I’d love to know how things turned out for you. My passport has a slight crease, and I also need to travel with American Airlines to Canada and the US. Mine goes through the new automated gates at airports. Have a great day!

Hi, since COVID happened in the meantime, we couldn't travel, but someone who works for an airline reassured me by saying that sometimes people board with passports in a terrible state (that got wet or are all dog-eared). She really put my mind at ease.

Thanks for your super quick reply—it really reassures me! I also tell myself that a passport "lives" and if we had to redo them for every minor issue, it’d be unmanageable. Wishing you safe travels soon. Have a great Sunday!

Exactly what the lady told me—you can’t just get a passport reissued for no reason. Over time, some are constantly in pockets or the cover wears out like a book.
