After several years of traveling in former French West Africa (impossible today!), with a Patrol, then a Dacia Duster, and now testing a Ford Maverick 4x4 2.7 TDI in preparation, we’d like to form a small group for a trip in 2027 (around late March? To be decided with those interested).

Interested in: - Eastern Morocco? Then Merzouga / Foum Zguid / Moroccan coast and Western Sahara, - Mauritania: Nouadhibou, Choum, Atar, Tidjikja, Tichitt, and surrounding areas, then possibly heading down to the Senegalese border to see if we can go further.

We’re a retired couple, both 69 years old, passionate about photography, wildlife, and archaeology. Feel free to reach out—suggestions are welcome!

Hi Gilles, I hope you find some companions. A friend runs a Facebook group called *Traces de Pistes*, where many 4x4 enthusiasts exchange tips—maybe you’ll find some interested people there? https://www.facebook.com/groups/tracesdepistes/ I’d love to hear about your trip with a Ford Maverick, since it’s a 4x4 we don’t see in the Mauritanian Sahara. A Mauritanian friend who’d moved abroad had brought one in, but it didn’t hold up (I never got the details). You know this part of the world better than I do, I imagine, but from March to May, the winds can get pretty fierce—hope you don’t "eat" too much sand!
