Peut-être parce que c'était la découverte!
Mais l'hiver on en boit beaucoup! moins l'été et c'est peut-être pour ça que Madikéra à moins apprécié! Nous sommes de gros buveurs de thé mais passés 15h plus questions d'excitants!!😕

Eh bien j'avais réussi à emmener JP au salon de tourisme vendredi en prétextant St Valentin et petit resto sympa mais c'est cette semaine qu'il nous fait une mignonette grippe(bien sur sommes vaccinés homéopathie)!
Alors cette semaine nous avions des sorties tous les jours! forcément ce n'aurait pas été drôle autrement😠 et comme on passe le week-end(j'espère) chez mon filleul qui a 2 "bout de chou" pas question d'emmener les microbes!!!

C'est toujours avec plaisir que je suis ton périple Québecois Très belles photos. J'aime les paysages de neige .
La partie sur les chiens de traineaux font revenir pleins de souvenirs . Lors de notre sortie il y avait plusieurs traineaux et 2 mushers, un devant , les apprentis mushers au milieu et l'autre derrière tout le monde.
Pour la petite anecdote, la 1ère fois que nous avons fait une sortie en chien de traineau, nous avions un traineau pour 2 et devions musher chacun à notre tour. Mon mari commence en premier, moi je m'installe bien au chaud sous les couvertures et profite du magnifique paysage qui s'offre à nous, nous avions en plus la chance d'avoir un très beau temps . A mi-chemin tous les traîneaux s'arrêtent dans une cabane pour boire une boisson chaude, manger quelque chose et aussi changer de musher. C'est à mon tour de musher, je dois préciser qu'à cet endroit le sentier faisait une courbe et les chiens comme à leur habitude étaient impatients de partir. Je tenais fort le traineau d'une main, relevais le frein ancré dans la neige de l'autre, et là, les chiens se sont mit à bondir et comme ça tournait et n'avais pas la force de le retenir, le traineau avec mon mari dedans se renversa sur le côté, il a été éjecté dans la neige sans bobos et les chiens ont continué leur course en tirant un traineau vide. Heureusement qu'il y avait le musher plus loin derrière il a pu nous récupérer et nous ramener à notre point de départ. Nous avons néanmoins conservé un super souvenir de cette 1ère expérience que nous avons renouvelé une autre fois.
Je n'aurai pas aimé me retrouver à ta place pour terminer le circuit seule en pleine forêt et ne sachant pas où j'allais arriver.
Sympa cette sortie raquette.
Et là question gourmandises nous étions plus que bien servis. la mousse au chocolat est topissime
Hum tu me fait saliver devant ces bons desserts, surtout la mousse au chocolat.
Cela fait un bon moment qu'on se dit qu'on devrait retourner au Québec l'hiver et ton récit me donne encore plus envie.

Si j'étais éditeur croyez moi que je vous demanderais sans perdre un instant pour publier votre voyage, une mise en marché pour le public en général Il se vendrait comme des petits pain chauds je n'ai aucun doute et en plus ce qui donnerait le goût aux gens habitants hors Canada de venir découvrir des endroits aussi merveilleux, non seulement en hiver mais au printemps où tout renaît , en été et sans oublier l'automne avec ces magnifiques couleurs ..
Ce fut un délicieux repas à base de langouste fraîche. J'en mange rarement car n'en suis pas une inconditionnelle mais là, elle était top bonne.
Juste pour le clin d’œil l'apéro... nommé "Coucher de soleil"
Aujourd'hui je n'ai pas eu le temps de me pencher sur le carnet Québec. Demain cela m’étonnerait (je pars avant 6 heures du mat et rentre après 18 heures) et pas sûre pour samedi car le matin il y a une nouvelle VForumade à la plage...
Ces chiens sont dans les starting-block en permanence et n'ont qu'une envie: courir.
Donc, si tu loupes le départ, ils te larguent !!! Heureusement pour vous, ce fut sans dégât 😉
Concernant mon escapade d'il y a 10 ans, les autres ont eu bien plus peur que moi. Ils ont ignoré ce qui m'arrivait pdt une bonne heure, sont restés seuls (à 4, monsieur Madikéra, mon cousin vivant à New-York, sa femme et leur fille) en forêt pdt que le musher partait à ma recherche. Ils avaient le talkie-walkie mais bien souvent rien ne passait. Les plus froussards ont top flippé en pensant ours and co... Bref, je suis celle du groupe à avoir vécu la meilleure matinée 🤪
J'ai demandé la même chose à mon grippé, il a pas l'air d'acquiescer! Heureusement j'ai tout prévu mais sans langouste!
Bon courage pour cette longue journée et très bon week-end! Je reviendrais que dimanche soir!

Une journée trappi-trappa...
Mardi 24 décembre 2013 - autour de l'auberge - 3 km à raquettes
Emergence des abysses sommeillants vers 7h30, le soleil brille et il a l'air de faire très frette. C'est une excellente impression car dans la nuit il a fait -25°. A partir de 9 heures, la température se stabilisera autour de -18°.
Petit déjeuner tranquille, montée en énergie, encouchage...
A 10 heures, Gilles le trappeur vient nous chercher. Impossible de ne pas se douter que c'est un trappeur tant son costume est en mode Davy Crockett ! Nous sommes 8, la famille avec laquelle nous étions aux chiens et nous. C'est l'inauguration de la saison pour cette activité.
Direction son chalet, c'est l'avant dernier de ceux de la zone, pour une partie explications et démonstrations. C'est donc sur place et c'est un vrai avantage car il n'y a pas besoin de se déplacer en voiture. Il préfère le faire au chaud dans sa cabane de trappeur et il a bien raison. Il nous parle de manière à la fois passionnée et explicative des pièges, de la trappe, des autorisations de chasse…
Cela dure une heure environ et pendant ce temps nous sommes installés sur des tabourets en bois couverts de peaux de bêtes et chauffés par un bon gros poêle. Il termine en nous montrant divers animaux congelés pour qu'on puisse bien les appréhender, cela va du tout petit écureuil, au castor en passant par de grosses pattes d'ours brun. Certains pourraient ne pas aimer cette partie vrais animaux sortis des profondeurs d'un gros congélateur...
Deuxième étape, le tour en forêt. Il commence par une halte chaussage des raquettes dans la salle dédié au stock des équipements d'activité (j'en profite comme d'autres pour faire une pause technique).
Puis, nous voilà en route sur le chemin. C'est parti pour 1h30 environ de raquettes avec des pauses explications brèves ce que nous apprécions. Il fait beau soleil, du coup le froid est peu mordant. Le rythme de la marche me convient, les diverses pauses me permettent de ne pas m'épuiser. Si je l'ai fait, tout le monde ou presque peut le faire... C'était une chouette balade en forêt
Retour à la cabane vers 14 heures car la sortir se termine par un déjeuner en commun. Vont s'enchaîner bretzels et chips avec un Caribou (apéritif à base de vin), puis un peu de bouillon et une bolée de fèves à la mélasse (c'est comme du sirop de batterie). Cela se termine par des petits gâteaux au sirop d'érable et des marshmallows grillés au feu de cheminée. C'est un sympathique moment convivial d'échanges où la femme du trappeur, Patricia, est également présente car c'est elle la cuisinière.
Pendant ce temps, les cerfs vont et viennent dans les environs. Il y a un très jeune bébé avec des tâches. C'est rare en cette saison et cela signifie qu'il est né tardivement. Nos hôtes nous demandent si nous avons entendu les loups pendant la nuit car il paraît qu'ils ont chanté en toute proximité du petit lac et que c'était magnifique. Personne n'a rien entendu, la preuve que les sommeils furent profonds.
C'est une activité qui nous a beaucoup plu et est d'un rapport qualité prix plus que positif, car au tarif de 50 dollars par personne. Nous vous la recommandons fortement sauf si vous êtes allergique à la chasse.
Retour tranquille au chalet vers 15h45. Bain tourbillons, lavage de cheveu, carnet... occupent la fin de l'après-midi.
La soirée de Noël débute vers 19h30, le dîner est à 4 services et bien sûr fort bon. Il faut savoir qu'au Québec le grand dîner de Noël est le 25 et non la veille.
Il y a un air de festivités dans la salle. En effet, à chaque place il y a un paquet cadeau. Un petit jeu permettra l'échange des cadeaux en 4 temps: à sa table, avec la salle voisine, contre un même papier ou homme/femme... Et à l'arrivée nous découvrirons gourmandises, bonnet de Père Noël ou autres bricolettes. C'est une sympathique attention que nous avons apprécié.
Puis, le Père Noël est annoncé. Il arrive en motoneige, distribue des paquets aux quelques enfants et repart vite fait poursuivre sa tournée. L'esprit fête fut donc présent sans être pesant.
La fin de soirée se fait avec un petit digestif vers la cheminée et un grand moment de joie avec le don par Léa, la propriétaire, de sa botte à cadeaux au chien Moka. C'était un instant incroyable que je croyais avoir filmé et que j'ai raté. J'ai rarement vu quelqu'un aussi heureux de recevoir un cadeau. C'était joyeux et émouvant à la fois.
Vers 22 heures, nous regagnons notre chambre et activons le mode dodo vers 23 heures. Demain, c'est changement de lieu de vie...

J'ai longtemps fait ski de pistes... opté finalement pour l'autre. La nature était magnifique aujourd'hui, et de belles pentes raides autant à monter qu'à descendre.

Je viens de faire un retour en arrière pour voir où j'en étais! Et alors nous sommes tombés JP et moi en admiration devant cette superbe photo d'où l'on distingue un faon derrière le givre! Je trouve extraordinaire cette photo!!! Merci de nous la faire partager!
Ce matin je voulais te répondre pour te faire un petit coucou et je tape le B de Bonjour et tout à coup j'entends ce bruit sourd si caractéristique, celui qui me retourne le cœur et fait que pdt qqs heures, j'ai l'impression d'avoir le mal de terre.
Puis 2/3 secondes de silence, puis cela tangue et tangue pas mal sur la chaise. Comme d'hab le cerveau a du mal à comprendre et réagir et le temps qu'il le fasse les 15 secondes sont finies. Et pouf plus de courant... Heureusement l'onduleur de l'ordi nous permet de garder une zone éclairée en ce début de journée encore bien sombre (il était 5h27).
A ce moment, j'entends une de mes voisines hurler, donc le temps d'ouvrir la porte (on a beau avoir les consignes nous disant quand vous êtes éveillés... on ne les respecte pas toujours). Bon, elle n'a rien c'est juste la mega frousse.
Nous venons de vivre un 7 (entre 6,5 et 7 selon les organismes) au large ressenti selon les lieux à 4/5 sur la terre... Il était à 222 kilomètre au large dans l'Atlantique.
La réplique de 8h10 a été moins forte.
Un début de journée bien secouant. Vous devinerez facilement quel était le sujet de conversation du jour...
Tout un réveil, ma foi!! Même si vous avez plus l'habitude que nous de ''subir'' des séismes c'est toujours impressionnant!! Puis à magnitude 7 j'imagine que ça doit bien secouer! Nous on dépasse rarement le 5 donc juste le bruit sourd mais peu de mouvement!
Selon les lieux cela a pas mal secoué mais aucun dégât n'a été repéré. Ce soir, dans les émissions de radio où les gens parlent des thèmes du quotidien, certains disaient qu'ils avaient eu plus peur qu'en 2007 (le dernier bien gros à plus de 7), nous concernant le ressenti a été nettement en-dessous même si c'était pas mal. Et dans les faits, c'était 20 fois plus petit.
Au moins, cela finit de bien te réveiller et tu prends le volant en pleine conscience 🤪

Pas entendu parlé de tremblement de terre aux Antilles! C'est fréquent aux Antilles de ressentir des secousses? Si l'épi centre était à 220kms il n'y a pas eu de dégâts??? 4/5 ressenti c'est déjà pas mal! Je me rappelle avoir discuté de ça avec des guadeloupéennes, elles étaient terrorisées à en parler!
Hier soir(vers19h- 20h.) j'étais en train de répondre pour le jeu de la photo , nous avons eu 2 coupures de courant assez rapprochées sans explications. Heureusement j'ai ma batterie mais il faut vite tout fermer!!!!

C'était juste une belle petite secousse que la plupart des gens ont bien senti mais sans conséquence grave. De notre côté la coupure de courant n'a duré que qqs minutes, pour d'autres cela a été un peu plus long.
L'onduleur permet d'avoir qqs minutes pour fermer l'ordi (ici nous avons tous des onduleurs)... donc rien n'a été perdu.
J'ai commencé à trier les photos du parc Oméga. Cela va prendre un certain temps car j'en ai un certain nombre 🤪
J'aime bien cet arbre recouvert de neige au milieu de ce champ de neige!
Que de beaux moments, tu nous fais partager!

J'ai pris un peu de retard dans la lecture du carnet et j'apprends qu'il y a eu une secousse chez toi heureusement sans conséquence, mais ce doit être quand même stressant. Je n'en avais pas entendu parler ici, mais il est vrai qu'en ce moment je n'écoute pas trop les infos. Merci pour ces belles photos de la journée de trappe. Ne t'inquiète pas pour la suite, prends ton temps, je sais que c'est long de trier les photos et écrire le carnet.
C'était un petit gigoti-gigota qui a eu l'avantage de nous rappeler de ne pas oublier... Ainsi, nous nous sommes rendus compte de réflexes perdus (comme l'ouverture de la porte dès le lever) et de rangement désorganisé, comme la lampe de poche du bureau qui n'était pas à sa place...
J'espère pouvoir mettre en ligne la prochaine étape ce WE. J'ai environ 500 photos prises au parc Oméga à trier...
Quelle belle plume et que c'est plaisant de vous lire....vos photos sont aussi très belles! Moi qui "chiale" contre le froid et l'hiver qui n'en finit plus....je me suis amusée en vous lisant. Je demeure tout près de Magog et j'ai reconnu plusieurs jolies photos. Vous vous êtes échappés à temps de l'Estrie , car le 23 décembre nous avons reçu beaucoup de verglas impliquant des pannes d'électricité prolongées....Et que dire des grands froids qui persistent .....Moi je rêve de la Martinique ! :)))

Si cela peut te rassurer, la météo n'est pas top/top chez nous en ce moment. Là il pleut pas mal, ce qui est un peu "anormal" car en théorie nous sommes en saison sèche !

Nous sommes allés au parc oméga, il y a quelques années, au printemps. Un cervidé avaient passé la tête par la fenêtre pour me caresser la main de sa langue rapeuse. C'était marrant: peut-être avait-il l'impression que j'avais de bonnes choses à manger!!!
Après, il a fallu que je le repousse un peu, car il voulait entrer dans la voiture poursuivre son inspection.
Parfois envahissantes ces petites bêbêtes, quand même!!!😄
I wanted to share a great discovery in the Marakele area because, in the end, this park doesn’t get talked about much compared to Kruger, even though it’s really worth the detour.
We discovered Cypiro Leopard Lodge, right next to Marakele National Park in the Waterberg. It’s a small property with just a few villas and suites, so it’s nothing like the big, crowded lodges. What we loved most was the feeling of being truly at the end of the world—lots of space, silence, and almost no one around.
And yet, it’s only about 3 hours from Johannesburg. Once you leave Joburg, the road is pretty straightforward, and you quickly find yourself in a much wilder Africa.
Marakele National Park was a huge surprise for us. There are plenty of animals, the Big Five are present, but best of all, very few people. At times, we drove for quite a while without seeing another car. It’s such a change from parks where you sometimes end up with 15 cars around one animal.
The landscapes are also stunning, with the Waterberg mountains, plains, and beautiful views from some of the trails.
We also learned on-site that Marakele is known for its very large Cape vulture colony—around 800 breeding pairs. When you climb into the mountains and see them soaring above, it’s pretty impressive.
The entire Waterberg region is actually a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve, and you quickly understand why once you’re there.
As for Cypiro, it’s a lodge that was recently taken over by French owners—really nice and approachable. The place is quite exclusive since there are very few accommodations. The villas and suites each have their own private pool, a wood-fired hot bath (like a KolKol), a braai, and an outdoor fireplace.
Evenings are especially lovely, especially with the peace and quiet all around.
Another thing we found really convenient: you can organize your stay however you like.
You can come self-catering and cook for yourself. There’s a supermarket in the nearby small town, practically on the way in, so you can do your shopping before arriving without making a big detour.
Or you can ask them to organize everything with breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Their chef, Ernest, cooks really well, and it lets you completely unwind for a few days.
We liked being able to alternate: some quiet meals on our own and others prepared for us.
That’s actually one of the things we appreciated here—it’s not an ultra-formal lodge where everything is scheduled at fixed times. You can head out early to Marakele, come back for lunch, enjoy the pool, go back out in the late afternoon, then have a braai or a relaxed dinner in the evening.
In terms of price, we also found the value for money really good for this level of accommodation and especially for the very private feel of the place. Sometimes it feels like you’re in a much more expensive lodge.
If you’re looking for lots of activity and dozens of people around you, this probably isn’t the right spot.
But for peace, wildlife, nature, wide-open spaces, and that feeling of being a little alone in the world, we absolutely loved it.

And if anyone knows Marakele or the Waterberg well, I’d love to hear about other spots to discover in the area.

Motorhome trip in Norway from September to November: who's done it before?

I'm planning a road trip in a motorhome from early September to late or mid-November.
My idea is to head up through Sweden to the Lofoten Islands, then come back down along the Norwegian coast.
I've already traveled through Norway in the summer (July-August), but never in the fall.
If any of you have done this kind of trip before, I'd love to hear about your experiences, especially regarding:
• the weather and first snowfalls by region;
• road conditions and any potential driving challenges;
• tires (summer, all-season, winter, etc.);
• ferries during this period;
• the northern lights (where and when did you see them?);
• and, more generally, anything you wish you'd known before setting off.
I was thinking of going up through Sweden and then back down along the Norwegian coast. Do you think that's the best route for this season, or would you do it the other way around?

I’m heading to Oman this coming October with my 13-year-old son for 11 days. My plan is to rent a car, probably a 4x4, to reach villages in the mountains, among other places. We’ll be sleeping in a tent the whole trip.
Since it’s a short stay, we’ll stick to the eastern part of the country, from Muscat to Duqm, most likely.
Any recommendations?! Things to know, like where to exchange money without high fees, a reliable car rental agency, road safety tips, wildlife like snakes, and anything else... I’ve done a lot of research already, but any suggestions would be super helpful!!

I discovered solo cruises last year, and it was a wonderful experience. Since then, I’ve decided to do one every year, usually between October and March, departing from Marseille or Le Havre.

While digging through the archives 🔍, we discovered a 19th-century journal 📜 bearing the name: "Le Petit Baigneur, weekly journal of beaches, spa towns, and thermal resorts in the South of France", published as early as 1886. Its motto? "All for the baths and by the baths" 🏖️ — what a program!
We found the name so amusing that we chose it to rename our hotel: Hôtel Le Petit Baigneur!
140 years later, we’re carrying on this seaside tradition of the South of France in our own way 🏊♂️ — with a few fewer crinolines, but just as much love for the seaside. 😊

Most people say they’re satisfied, so you might trust them like I did and rent a car..
But if you’re one of the scammed ones, your money disappears and your vacation is ruined!!
Our story:
We arrived in Heraklion, Crete as planned and headed to the OK Mobility counter as stated on the voucher.. mixed reception.. they explained in English that this wasn’t the pickup location and shuttled us to a rental company called MONZA!! (nowhere mentioned on the voucher)..
There, we found ourselves stranded two kilometers from the airport with a smooth-talking young guy.. CARJET was overbooked.. they had no vehicle for us.. end of story! No solution..
Took a taxi to the hotel... and to keep it short, it was nearly impossible to reach CARJET or OK MOBILITY..
Had to rent urgently from a local company during peak summer season.
Today, three weeks later, after multiple exchanges and follow-ups from me, the rental company dares to claim I never showed up..
So for now, no refund and it’s not looking good..
I’ve checked the negative reviews.. same stories, plus issues with insurance and credit cards..
So these are THIEVES who overbook with no customer service.. they have good reviews from people who didn’t hit the bad luck draw and benefit from their stats.

Has anyone taken this road recently? Is it passable with a regular car (non-4x4), or is a 4x4 absolutely necessary? Are there any ongoing construction projects or degraded sections to be aware of?

Just returned from a three-week family trip to Kenya (with three kids aged 10, 12, and 15), and I wanted to share my experience. Forums were super helpful in planning this trip, especially if you want to get a bit off the beaten path.
First off, Kenya is an amazing destination with incredibly friendly and welcoming locals. It was easy to travel around because you can always find someone to give you directions or help you out.
For practical tips—though you’ve probably read this elsewhere—get a Safaricom SIM card when you arrive at the airport so you can pay via M-Pesa (you can top it up with a credit card using the Wise app) and chat with people on WhatsApp. It’ll make your life *so* much easier (booking trains, buses, park entries, etc.) and save you from carrying too much cash or hunting for ATMs.
Also, we went during the first three weeks of July, which wasn’t peak tourist season.
One thing to note: even if you’re using public transport and budget accommodations, Kenya can still be pricey because tourist attractions add up fast—often more expensive than in France. But honestly, it’s usually worth it!
We started our trip with a 5-day homestay. We were welcomed by a really lovely family in Loitokitok with a view of Kilimanjaro right from their garden entrance (just a heads-up: in July, it’s often shrouded in mist!). To find them, search for Greenfield Homestay in Loitokitok. It was a fantastic experience, especially with kids! On top of transfers, they organized several outings with locals: a hike to the Tanzanian border, a motorcycle ride on the foothills of Kilimanjaro, and a day safari in Amboseli. You can book with them eyes closed! For the safari, Anthony (who’s English-speaking) took us around—he’s from the area and knows the park like the back of his hand. Highly recommend him!
Anthony then drove us to Isiolo, a town in the north that’s just starting to open up to tourism. We wanted to see the Monday livestock market, where different ethnic groups gather to buy and sell goats, sheep, and cows (according to Lonely Planet). We were a bit disappointed and wouldn’t recommend it. We also visited Ngare Ndare Forest, which has a stunning waterfall, an interesting walk with an armed ranger (elephants are common), and a suspension bridge for admiring the canopy. Just make sure to let them know you’re coming at least three days in advance to guarantee a ranger will be available. We also did a second safari day in Samburu—it’s a great complement to Amboseli and totally worth it!
Next, we headed to Naivasha (still with Anthony). We found a place on Airbnb (Jasmine House) at Fischerman’s Camp, a campsite we really loved! You’ll spot hippos, monkeys, and beautiful birds there. We organized several activities: a boat ride on the lake to see birds, zebras, and giraffes; a bike safari in Hell’s Gate Park (the campsite is right by the entrance and rents bikes); and a hike to Crater Lake (departing by boat from the campsite), where you walk among zebras, giraffes, and different gazelles. Naivasha is way more touristy than Loitokitok or Isiolo, but there’s no shortage of things to do.
Finally, we spent our last week in Watamu on the coast. To get there, we took an overnight ENA Coach bus from Naivasha to Mombasa, booked via https://www.travler.africa/. It was comfortable and fast, but you’ll need to call the driver to arrange a pickup spot—the restaurant staff at the campsite helped us out with that! Then we took an Uber to Watamu since we had a lot of luggage (we skipped the matatu).
Watamu is nicknamed "Little Italy" because of all the Italian tourists. When we were there (third week of July), it wasn’t peak season yet, so the beaches weren’t cleaned. But we loved the laid-back vibe and how easy it was to get around. We *highly* recommend the marine turtle rescue center—it’s fascinating (especially with kids) and supports a great cause! We were a bit disappointed by the marine park, though—maybe because of the season? There weren’t many fish, and jellyfish kinda ruined the snorkeling. The mangrove tour is also a must-do.
For the trip back to Nairobi, we took the express train from Mombasa. We booked our tickets when we first arrived in Kenya (since payment is only via M-Pesa). The train is reliable and comfortable, and we saw lots of elephants along the way. Just a heads-up: there are *a lot* of security checks, and we almost weren’t allowed to board with our Opinel knife…

I could really use your help to finalize our trip to Japan.
We’re heading there for three weeks with my partner, starting November 10th. Our plan was to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, and a few stops in between (nothing too original so far…).
However, we’re more into nature and hiking, so even though we do want to explore Tokyo and Kyoto, we’d like to maximize nature stops between the two. Initially, we’d considered places like Kamikochi, but I understand it’s not accessible this late in the season.
