nous partons ma fille (15ans) et moi, le 18 oct pour 17 jours en Équateur.
J'aimerais passer une bonne semaine aux Galapagos.
- arrivée le 18 à Quito
- 19, 20 et 21 à Quito,
- le 22 départ tôt, petite balade vers le cotopaxi, puis nuit à Latacunga,
- le 23 Quilitoa, nuit à Latacunga ( peur des nuits fraiches à Quilatoa)
- le 24 route pour Banos
- le 25 descente en Vélo, nuit à Banos
- le 26 Banos-Quito en bus puis vol pour Galapagos
le reste sur les iles..
voila, est ce un peu cours d'aller à Banos pour un jour et demi...?
Super, un voyage mère-fille, vous allez adorer cette expérience! En plus, vous avez choisi l'Equateur, c'est le top!
Je vous laisse mes commentaires:
Trois jours complets sur Quito? Cela fait beaucoup, vous pouvez tranquillement rester une journée complète voire 1.5 jours. Vous pourriez ainsi profiter de visiter Mindo, avec son écosystème de forêt nuageuse, papillons, cascades et colibris au programme.
Plutôt que de dormir à Latacunga, ville sans grand intérêt, après le Cotopaxi, vous pourriez dormir dans une hosteria vers l'entrée nord du parc, ou encore dans une hacienda vers l'entrée sud (plus onéreuses).
Pour Quilotoa, si vous êtes frileuse, vous avez raison de ne pas vouloir dormir sur place :-)
Vous pouvez rester parfaitement une journée et demi à Banos, pour faire la route des cascades, profiter des eaux thermales, s'offrir un petit massage (ils sont économiques, pas de souci!)
J'ai un doute, vous avez votre vol pour les Galapagos le 27? Car ils partent généralement tôt, il faudrait donc que vous soyez à Quito la veille au soir.
Effectivement, nous pourrions passer le 19 et le 20 à Quito puis partir le dimanche 21 pour le cotopaxi, puis passer la nuit dans une hacienda, l'idée me plait...
Savez vous s'il serait possible de partir le lendemain matin et d'aller faire la boucle de quilotoa et de rentrer dormir à Latacunga?
Nous n'avons pas encore les billets pour les Galapagos, car je ne sais pas si nous irons le 25 ou le 26... cela dépendra du planning possible
Oui! pas mal comme idée! Les haciendas sont vraiment charmantes et authentiques, ce sont les anciennes demeures des propriétaires terriens qui ont été réhabilitées pour faire des hébergements touristiques. Elles sont de plus les témoins de l'histoire nationale. si vous pouvez vous offrir ce petit extra, cela vaut la peine!
Partir du Cotopaxi pour rejoindre Latacunga, puis Quilotoa, faire le tour de la lagune puis revenir à Latacunga ne va pas être possible en une journée. Je vous conseille de partir du Cotopaxi et d'aller dormir à Quilotoa même pour faire le tour le lendemain matin. Le matin est le meilleur moment puisqu'à partir de midi, le ciel se couvre et vous ne profiterez ps de la superbe couleur de l'eau.
Parfait, si vous n'avez pas encore les billets d'avion pour les Galapagos, vous êtes flexibles au niveau des étapes et du planning.
alors, en fonction de ce que vous me dites, on pourrait,
partir tôt le 21, aller faire un tour dans le park cotopaxi, dormir dans une hacienda, profiter le matin de l'endroit et faire la route pour Quilotoa l’après midi du 22. ( même si j’appréhende le froid dans les hôtels à Quilitoa 🙁)
Ou pensez vous qu'il soit préférable de dormir dans une hacienda en fonction de ce planning?
Le 23, tour du cratère puis route pour Banos.
Le 24 vélo à Banos, thermes et massage 😛 le soir.
Le 25 bus pour Quito et vol pour les galapagos si possible...
A mon avis, vous devriez passer plus de temps en Equateur et moins au Galapagos car faire le tour du Cratère de Quilotoa et le lendemain du vélo vers Banos....cela va être plutôt costaud..!!
Le tour du cratère est loin d'être facile, il faut compter au minimum 4h (dans le LP c'est même marqué 6h) avec des montées et des descentes vertigineuses, le tout à 4 000m d'altitude...Pour l'avoir fait en mars dernier, je vous assure qu'il faut être en super forme car on est "rincé" après...mais la vue sur le cratère est vraiment magnifique, quelle balade...!!
Surtout lorsque vous êtes devant l'office de tourisme partez à gauche faire le tour du cratère, c'est paraît-il "moins dur" d'après les guides, moi je ne le savais pas.....et je suis partie à droite;
De plus, n'oubliez pas de compter les heures de bus : 4h A/R de Latacunga à Quilotoa auxquelles il faut ajouter au moins 2h pour aller à Banos. Vous aller faire cela sur les chapeaux de roues...Personnellement je vous conseille de prendre une journée de repos à Banos (aux bains par exemple) avant de prendre le vélo.
Banos est une ville très agréable dans un joli décor de montagnes, et pas remplie de gringos comme certains le laissent à penser. certes, beaucoup d'équatoriens le WE mais le tout dans une ambiance très sympa. J'y suis restée 10 jours au lieu de 3...et j'y retourne en début d'année 2019.

je suis consciente de la difficulté du tour du cratère, mais je pensais que la descente en vélo n'était pas très difficile.... peut être l'ai je sous estimée?
Alors effectivement, une journée tranquille à Banos le 24 est envisageable...
Pensez vous que l'on puisse faire la boucle et la route pour Banos dans la même journée?
Vous avez raison, le planning est un peu soutenu au début, mais c'est pour pouvoir passer plus de temps aux Galapagos le but initial de notre trip, et là on se posera😉
L'autre option pour le Quilotoa n'est pas d'en faire le tour mais de descendre dans le cratère. Vous avez 100m de dénivelé, 30min de descente puis vous pouvez faire du kayak sur la lagune, ça c'est top! Ensuite vous remontez tranquillement en une heure ( si vous pouvez éviter de remonter à dos de mules, les pauvres bêtes font ça toute la journée, ça me fait de la peine ...), ensuite route pour Baños. La route des cascades à vélo se fait sans problèmes, au début c'est de la descente puis ensuite le long des cascades, vous pouvez faire des pauses, pour prendre la nacelle du Manto de la Novia (cascade), descendre voir la cascade du Pailon del Diablo....
Et le mieux pour la fin, il ya des camionnettes qui remontent les vélos à Baños et vous dedans, je pense que ça devrait aller niveau efforts ;-)

Oui je pense que vous pouvez faire le tour du cratère, repartir sur Latacunga (1 h 1/4 de bus environ) et ensuite aller jusqu'à Banos (2 h de bus).
Le dernier bus qui part de Quilotoa sur Latacunga est aux environs de 17 h mais vous en avez d'autres avant (vers 15 h de mémoire) par contre je ne connais pas l'horaire des bus pour partir sur Banos. Renseignez-vous avant de partir sur Quilotoa mais c'est faisable.
La veille, il faut dormir à Quilotoa et partir tôt faire le tout du cratère et en arrivant à Banos vous pourrez même faire un tour aux bains de la vierge pour vous détendre (ouvert jusqu'à 22 h).
Surtout ne gaspillez pas votre énergie à descendre jusqu'au lac, rien vraiment de transcendant à faire (désolée Léon !). La remontée dans le sable et les pierres est vraiment pénible et très fatigante.

PS : Prévoyez de bonnes chaussures pour le faire le tour du cratère et couvrez-vous. Mais vous allez voir cela en vaut vraiment la peine....La preuve, j'y retourne en mars prochain... même si je sais à l'avance que ce n'est pas évident..!

Pensez vous que un aller sur baltra et un retour depuis san cristobal soit plus judicieux... genre 3, 4jours sur Santa Cruz puis le reste sur san cristobal..?

Autant je connais bien l’Équateur autant les Galapagos ce sera comme vous... la 1ère fois.
Ce matin j'ai regardé sur Internet pour acheter mes billets (départ de Quito et retour par Guayaquil) mais des Galapagos vous pouvez soit arriver ou soit partir de l'aéroport de Santa Cruz ou de celui de San Cristobal. Vérifiez quand même par vous-même mais je ne crois pas m'être trompée.
Quant au séjour là-bas, nous avons choisi de visiter 4 îles : Santa Cruz (3 jours), San Cristobal (3 jours), Isabela (3 jours) et 2 voire 3 jours à Floreana. Nous avons le temps....alors on en profite et puis je voudrais en profiter pour faire quelques plongées...
Difficile donc de vous donner un avis sur les différentes îles mais d'après les commentaires de certains voyageurs, Floreana vaut vraiment le coup d’œil mais pas en une seule journée par contre (voyage en bateau fatigant).
Ce ne sera pas un voyage économique mais bon...les Galapagos je n'y retournerai probablement plus...!

Notre temps aux galapagos sera à priori de 8nuits 7 jours pleins.
Avant d'acheter les billets d'avion, je me demandais s'il ne valait mieux pas privilegier seulement 2 iles, Santa Cruz et Isabela, ou Santa Cruz et San Cristobal ( genre 4 jours et 3) plutot que de survoler chacune et de faire les 3 ( genre 3 jours, 2 et 2 et de perdre pratiquement un jour de transfert).
Je suis assez d'accord avec votre réflexion. Pour les transferts entre les îles il faut compter une demie journée, et entre San Cristobal et Isabela 1 jour. Sachant qu'en plus les tours proposés sur les îles sont souvent à la journée vous n'aurez donc pas de journée complete pour en profiter.
Petit alternative quand même, l'avion, c'est cher mais un vol au dessus des îles vous fait gagner du temps ! Surtout pour le trajet d'une journée ...
Le plan de ce concentrer sur deux îles me semble très bien.
Avant que vous ne partiez, juste cette info concernant les transferts entre les îles aux Galapagos :

Il y a un départ à 7 h ou 6 h du matin tous les jours en direction des différentes îles..
- de Santa Cruz vers San Cristobal la traversée dure 2 h 15 et le bateau part à 7H, idem pour revenir
- -de Santa Cruz vers Isabela la traversée dure 2 H et le bateau part à 7 H, pour revenir sur Santa Cruz le bateau part à 6H d'Isabela. Ce qui laisse le temps de prendre l'avion en fin de matinée pour Quito ou Guayaquil.
Donc pas d'inquiétude, les transfert entre les différentes îles ne prennent pas la journée, surtout qu'apparemment vous restez plusieurs jours sur chaque île. Donc même après un transfert vous aurez encore tout le reste de la journée pour visiter.
Bon voyage car cela approche pour vous, profitez-en bien.

alors j'ai réservé enfin!! et ceci après avoir failli acheter des billets pour locaux à un tarif exceptionnel en passant par Google flight, qui m'a redirigé directement sur avianca... Je n'ai trouvé nul part les clauses des codes des tarifs que l'ont ma proposait, mais je n'ai pas osé tenter.😕
Du coup j'ai acheter 2 billets pour européens sur le site de latam. 350€ l'aller retour.
et vous ça avance?
J'espère que vous aurez du beau temps à Quito car le centre ville est vraiment sympa à visiter à pied. Ne ratez pas la Cathédrale et surtout la Compania de Jesùs. Les entrées sont payantes mais cela vaut vraiment le coup d’œil.

la location de voiture depuis quito pour faire cotopaxi, Quilotoa , banos, Saquisili puis retour à QUITO le vol pour les Galapagos était vraiment une bonne option!
Alors les Galapagos.. on a passé 2.5 jours sur Santa cruz, ( que je n'ai pas vraiment aimé), du coup on a pris une croisiere last minute de 4 jours. Puis 2 jours sur Isabela..

Contente que votre périple en Equateur entre Quito et Baños vous ait plu. Avez-vous pu faire le tour du volcan de Quilotoa finalement ? Et je suppose que Baños et ses bains thermaux d'eaux chaudes vous ont plu également.
Quant aux Galapagos, j'ai l'impression que cela n'a pas été le coup de foudre attendu. Qu'est-ce qui vous a déplu ? Les Îles sont-elles trop touristiques, la faune n'est-elle pas aussi importante que les voyageurs et les guides le disent etc..?
Et pour les plongées quant est-il exactement ..?
Les avis sont très partagés sur les Galapagos, certains adorent, d'autres moins...Si vous pouviez m'en dire un peu plus..car je me fais une telle joie d'y aller !
Me concernant je pars la mi-janvier pour l'Equateur et fin janvier pour les Galapagos, avant de m'y rendre j'irai dans l'Oriente que je connais moins bien.

Désolée pour cette réponse tardive mais la vie speed à repris son cours 😉.
Alors oui nous avons eu la chance de bénéficier de beau temps pour monter aux glacier du Cotopaxi et pour faire le tour du cratère Quilotoa.
Pour les Galapagos, on a vraiment aimé.
A refaire je ferai 3 jours sur Santa Cruz, (un jour pour les visites au centre de l'ile et un jour pour tortuga Bay, et un jour de sortie plongée. Le temps libre pour négocier une croisière dernière minute. )
Puis 3 jours sur Isabela.
Nous sommes allé à San cristobal pour récupérer notre bateau pour la croisière et ça a l'air vraiment sympa aussi... on a aussi fait un stop à Floarena et une nuit sur place doit être vraiment agréable.
Nous n'avions que 8 jours c'est court...
Ce que l on a moins aimé c'est les logements qui n'ont pas toujours un rapport qualité prix juste.
Bien contente que les Galapagos vous ont plus, j'avais mal interprété votre ressenti dans un de vos messages.
J'attendais de vos nouvelles pour pouvoir acheter les billets d'avion et au vu de ce que vous écrivez nous resterons finalement 12 jours là-bas.
Je pense ainsi que l'on aura le temps de visiter les 4 îles et de faire quelques plongées.

We're planning a trip to southern Chile in November. Here's our tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.
What do you think of this itinerary? Is it doable in 17 days?

30/11: Exploring Bogotá: La Candelaria and Montserrate.
01/12: Gold Museum (closed on Mondays). Drive to Zipaquirá (1.5 hrs) to visit the Salt Cathedral. Then drive to Villa de Leyva (3 hrs). Explore the town. Overnight in Villa de Leyva.
02/12: Return to Bogotá via Laguna de Guatavita (5 hrs). Is it worth the detour? Overnight in Bogotá.
03/12: Flight to Pereira. Drive to Salento. Overnight in Salento.
04/12: Cocora Valley (hike among the wax palms) followed by a drive around the area. Are there any waterfalls or other sights nearby?
05/12: Visit a coffee finca—any recommendations? Then explore the surroundings: Filandia, Manizales, waterfalls? Hot springs? Which ones?
06/12: Flight to Medellín.
07/12: Exploring Medellín: Centro, Plaza Botero, Comuna 13. How do you visit Comuna 13? Is it easy to get around Medellín? Metro? Buses?
08/12: Drive to Guatapé (2 hrs). Visit the town, stroll around the lake, then El Peñol. Overnight in Guatapé.
09/12: Return to Medellín.
10/12: Flight to Santa Marta. Drive to a hotel near Tayrona Park.
11/12: Tayrona—El Zaino entrance.
12/12: Tayrona—Palangana entrance, then Bahia Concha and Santa Marta. What do you think?
13/12: Drive to Minca (45 mins). Can we reach the village by car? Pozo Azul and Marinka waterfalls. Overnight in Minca (or back in Tayrona?).
14/12: Drive to Puerto Nao (5 hrs). Stop in Ciénaga on the way + boat tour in Nueva Venecia and/or Buena Vista? Not enough time? Overnight in Puerto Nao.

I’ve sketched out a rough itinerary but I’m not sure how to arrange it—considering the climate, year-end holidays, and Carnival.
Basically, I’m thinking of the Amazon, the Northeast coast with Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (but skipping Chapada Diamantina),
Ouro Preto, Paraty, and Ilha Grande—but no Rio visit.
Is this doable in 3 months?

After lots of research and quotes, it’s the only one offering Uyuni at a reasonable price while meeting all the criteria: transfer to the border, private-room accommodation, and a very fair rate. Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.
How’s it actually working on the ground with these rental companies right now? Will a deferred debit card work, or not at all?

I’m desperately looking for info on the schedules and routes of (shared) boats to visit the islands of Lake Titicaca.
From what I’ve found, there’s a *combi* (bus) that leaves from Puno to go to Llachon. Where do you catch it? What are the schedules and frequency? Does it take about 1 hour?
Then in Llachon, you can take a boat to Amantani (45 min). Same question—where do you check for frequency and schedule?
After that, from Amantani, boats go to Taquile and then Uros. Do you have enough time to visit the islands between two boats? Frequency and schedule?
The goal is to do this tour independently (no agency) over 2 days. Thanks for any tips you might have!
I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?
What would be a fair price (keeping in mind that 40 to 50 € is the max I can spend on accommodation, breakfast, and dinner)?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.

Three years ago during a trip to Java (no, I didn’t post in the wrong forum!), I came across the address of former miners who had switched to “tourism” and organized nighttime ascents of the Kawah Ijen volcano and descents into the crater.
