Yeah, VF, which used to be so responsive, still doesn’t even have a thread about this devastating mudslide that’s ravaged a region of Nepal where hundreds have died and hundreds more are missing (provisional toll). But from the images, we know the number of victims is going to be terrifying. Thoughts to everyone affected, including, according to early reports, many travelers..

Yes, VF, which used to be so responsive, still doesn’t even have a thread dedicated to this devastating mudslide that ravaged a region of Nepal where hundreds of people have died and hundreds more are missing (provisional toll). But given the images, we know the number of victims is going to be terrifying. Thoughts to all those impacted, including, according to early reports, many tourists..

The images circulating are truly horrifying. Nepal really didn’t need (if we can put it that way) such a calamity, and will need a lot of international aid.

My heart aches thinking about the many victims. I tried to see recent images of Syapru Besi, where I passed through last September—Gxxglemap isn’t showing any. I can only imagine the devastation in this small town located by the Trishuli River....

Another very sad piece of news from Nepal. There will be many victims—Nepalis and foreign tourists—and unfortunately, such a disaster will discourage people from visiting. I’m supposed to go back there in November... As for the radio silence on VF, I’m not surprised. There hasn’t been much real exchange since it reopened.

The images are terrifying. The force of nature. The noise. A thought for the Nepalis facing yet another terrible ordeal. The losses will be very heavy.

hi Matthieu Ricard spoke live and stated he has a budget of 500,000 € to help Nepal, is in touch with his friends on the ground, and is organizing based on needs while waiting for the green light from the government and the army. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09s3lbEByHM You can send your donations here if you'd like to contribute, thanks in advance! https://karuna-shechen.org/

The images I saw immediately reminded me of the 2004 tsunami. A bit like the events in the Roya Valley too, with those houses on the edge of the abyss.

How small we are in the face of the forces of nature! !🤪

Climate change and the inexorable natural shaping of landscapes over the centuries mean that these tragedies unfortunately won’t be the last.

Nepal is paying a heavy price due to its geography—doubly so, as the loss of life will be followed by economic losses from tourists staying away.

I won’t pray for Nepal; I hate that expression, steeped in hollow sentiment and a heavy dose of sanctimony. But I’m truly thinking of all the victims.

The former owner of this site had a special connection to Nepal. He would’ve certainly mentioned it. So many human tragedies happen every day across all continents. If we had to pay tribute to every life lost, this forum wouldn’t be about travel anymore—it’d just be an obituary section.

Good evening Attila,

I sincerely hope you’ll forgive me if, from time to time, I mention on this forum a musician who’s passed away and who meant a lot to me—someone who "accompanied" me for so many years... I know this is a travel forum, which is why I always feel a little uneasy about it, but in the end, music often wins out...

Otherwise, I agree with you on a lot of the points you brought up here...

Have a great Sunday!
