Hello, We’re two senior travelers and would like to visit Cape Verde in Feb 2027. We don’t hike but love meeting people, culture, and nature. Which islands would you recommend, and do you know of any local agencies? Thanks a million!

Hi there, Cape Verde is a destination I deeply loved for its authenticity and the warmth of its people—you’re clearly making a great choice if you prioritize connections and culture. For your profile, I’d recommend: ✔️ São Vicente: perfect for experiencing Cape Verdean culture (music, markets, local life in Mindelo) ✔️ Santo Antão: even without long hikes, some valleys are accessible, and the landscapes are among the most stunning in the archipelago ✔️ Sal: more touristy, but convenient for relaxing and enjoying the ocean If you arrive via Santiago, don’t hesitate to spend a few days there and visit Tarrafal.

If you’re looking for something more off the beaten path, islands like Maio or São Nicolau could also be interesting, though they’re a bit less accessible. Each island really has its own personality, and that’s what makes the trip so rewarding. For me, what stood out the most were the simple moments with locals—conversations, smiles—far more than any "must-see sites." If it helps, I’ve written an article about each island and the reasons to visit Cape Verde and what makes this country so unique, on my blog Noirenvoyage. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Happy travels! 🤍

Hello, It really depends on how much time you have there, as that will limit the number of islands you can visit. Especially since you should always allow some extra time and flexibility for inter-island transfers here. 😉 Even if you’re not big hikers, I think Santo Antão is one of the most authentic islands while still being accessible (there’s an international airport in São Vicente, which is just a 1-hour ferry ride away, with regular daily connections between the two islands). So, Santo Antão for breathtaking landscapes and warmth of the locals; São Vicente for markets, culture, and a bit of beach time. (Though Mindelo is a big city, so human contact can be harder to find.) Otherwise, the southern islands—Santiago and Fogo (and/or Maio)—could also be a great alternative. The atmosphere in Fogo at Cha das Caldeiras, at the foot of the volcano, is incredible. And Maio is so calm and peaceful—such a laid-back vibe. I love it. Marie
