Comme promis voici un résumé d'un séjour d'un mois à MADAGASCAR. En principe le séjour était prévu sur un mois et demie...mais mon co équipier a souhaité rentrer plus tôt...Hélas.
J'avais fais venir une TENERE à TAMATAVE pour faire le trip, celle de mon collègue devait être louée... En fait, la moto qui a été mise à disposition par le loueur de TAMATAVE n'était pas en état mécanique pour faire le parcours que nous avions projeté... Il a fallu en trouver une autre à TANA. (Pour ceux qui le souhaitent, je donnerai en mp les détails).
Enfin, si vous avez lu mes posts sur les douanes et sur l'immatriculation...vous savez que l'affaire peut devenir chère et qu'il est quelquefois plus simple d'acheter sur place...si vous avez l'intention de revenir...Sinon, location en négociant.
Goudron partout en parfait état sauf quelques trous vers SONIARA 122 km de piste terre dont 30 avec pas mal de trous entre MIANDRIVAZO et MALAIMBRANDY des trous "énormes" sur les 30 derniers kil avant d'arriver sur MORONDAVE et dans la ville...
Partout ailleurs, route superbe avec trés peu de circulation. Même sur l'axe TANA - TAMATAVE, il y a peu de monde par rapport à nos nationales. Prudence, certains gros 4*4 roulent vite...en tout cas donnent une impression de danger notamment dans les traversées de villages.
SECURITE, ACCUEIL.
Aucun problème...le bonjour de la main très souvent; les enfants bien sur mais aussi les adultes.
Pour les policiers....aucun "zèle" ni demande de "cadeau". ... On a eu droit à un contrôle de gendarmerie qui s'est terminé par une demande "d'un tour de moto"...
Les camions laissent passer dès qu'ils le peuvent. Seuls les taxi bé sont à surveiller parce qu'ils vont parfois aussi vite que moi dans des endroits ou je musardais pour admirer le paysage... Dans ces cas je prenais soin de ne pas les ralentir...et de m'éloigner du risque...
HEBERGEMENT.
Nous avions décidé de ne pas mettre de l'argent dans les hôtels.
Les adresses ou nous avons séjourné sont très correct si on ne cherche pas la clim et tout le reste.
TAMATAVE: LIONEL HOTEL Centre ville calme, rue du Lieutenant NOEL. Moins de 20 000ar avec douche sans WC.
MAHAMBO: YLANG YLANG. A 50 métres d'une plage. 30000Ar demandé mais 20000 négocié, restau trés correct. Bungalow avec douche, WC, moustiquaire...PARFAIT.
MANAHORO: HOTEL TROPICANA. Sur la plage. Trés petit bungalow pour 18000 ar.
TANA: Le choix est vaste...mais parce que j'avais un moyen de déplacement je ne suis pas resté en centre ville (y compris parce qu'il peut être difficile de mettre la machine en lieu sûr la nuit). HOTEL DU LAC à IVATO: 35000 ar le bungalow très correct avec douche, wc, eau chaude mais pas de moustiquaire.
ANTSIRABE: PRIMA GUEST HOUSE: 35000 ar la chambre avec douche chaude, wc et télé. Rien à dire. Le mari est allemand d'origine...c'est clean et sympa. Par contre que 4 chambres souvent prises en pension...
MIANDRIVAZO. Hotel la PIROGUE. La chambre avec douche, wc eau froide et moustiquaire pour 25000 ar (je crois)... En sortant vers MORONDAVE, sur la hauteur, vue imprenable.
MORONDAVE. Le choix est grand. Le collègue est allé au MENABE. La chambre pour 20000ar avec douche et wc. Moi, j'ai eu de la chance de me faire héberger. RESTO à faire au JAMAÏCA au début de NOSY KELLY. L'accueil de Perline est remarquable.
CARBURANT. Partout sans difficulté sauf entre ANTSIRABE, MIANDRIVAZO et MORONDAVE ou je n'ai pas vu de station.
VITESSE DE CROISIERE: 85 km - Compter 3 heures pour 200km avec quelques arrêts photo.
BUDGET TOTAL HORS DOUANE ET AVION: 1300€ sur 29 jours (THB inclus) dont 135€ de carburant.
PROCHAINS PARCOURS .... SANS DOUTE EN SEPT 2009. TANA-MAJUNGA-DIEGO-SAMBAVA et retour jusqu'à TANA puis en 2010 TANA-FIANA-MANAKARA-VAGANDRANO-FIANA-TULEAR-TANA.
Si cela interresse quelqu'un...les parcours sont cool sans danger ni risque. Ce serait sympa de les faire à deux ou trois motos.

Il faut connaitre, les limites du possible, non, pour s'arrêter, mais pour tenter l'impossible, dans de meilleurs conditions ...
j'ai fait en aout/septembre seul en xr400 tana diego ambilobe vohemar sambava antalaha, retour par la même piste vohemar ambilobe, hélas
je voulais boucler en bateau antalaha/ maroensetra ou mananara, et ensuite par la piste vers tamatave et route pour tana
2 bateaux ont coulé cet été, les autorités ont interdit les passagers, et l'administrateur local des affaires maritimes est resté insensible à quelques offres de liquide pour huiler les rouages....(si toi, le vasaha, tu coules, je suis viré!)
seul, et faute de temps, je n'ai pas osé tenter andapa bealalana antsohy
je serais candidat pour retenter quelque chose du même genre à plusieurs l'année prochaine
l'idéal pourrait être de mettre les motos sur un bateau à antalaha ou vinanivao vers maroensetra, ou plus probablement mananara
les motard peuvent traverser à pied de Cap est vers maroensetra, ou prendre l'avion à antalaha
j'ai fait un bout de la piste de antalaha vers Vinanivao, il faut mettre la moto dans la pirogue pour passer les estuaires mais ça passe!
Je sais que la route de TANA à DIEGO est goudronnée, mais comment est la route entre AMBILOBE et SAMBAVA. On m'a dit qu'elle l'était aussi...
Par ailleurs, comment c'est entre SAMBAVA et ANTALAHA....sable ou pas sable...et si oui sur combien en % si tu peux l'estimer.J'ai horreur du sable...sans doute parce que je n'en ai jamais fait...mais j'ai l'impression que je vais devoir apprendre...
Eh eh ! Le monde est petit. Nous nous sommes croisés au restaurant un soir à MIANDRIVAZO ( La Pirogue). Nous avons échangé quelques impressions de voyage.
Je vois que le voyage s'est bien terminé.
Pour nous aussi, tout a été parfait et nous avons apprécié la gentillesse des malgaches et la beauté des paysages.

L'organisation du circuit a été longue (pourtant assez classique). Les liaisons France Madagascar ne sont pas toujours fiables. Toutefois, le résultat a été nickel !

entre ambilobe et sambave 170 km de piste je l'ai fait debut avril et la tu prend ton pied la piste etait defoncer 8h de route pour relier les deux mais sensations assurez et grosses gamelles j'ai un petit blog photos sur le forum"mada a moto" autrement a descendre sur cap est de la belle route mais pas pour me plaire je suis plutot un pistard normal pour un breton🤪😏
En tout: transport de Paris à TAMATAVE: 380€ avec WALEXPORT dégroupage (78€), dédouanement (200€), taxes douanières (992.78€), amendes sur redressement de valeur (513.02€), taxes gasinet (31.11€), frais de virement bancaire (6€), BSC recevable (42.55 dégroupage, papiers divers et trés variés, conseils foireux, amende douanière (42.55€), frais de magasinage (18.51€) soit 1882 €. Note bien que les conseils foireux d'AID m'ont couté l'amende de 513€....qui ne sont sans doute pas tombés dans la poche d'un passant....
Si tu fais le compte c'est 2262 € plus la valeur de ta machine.... A ce prix tu peux trouver sur place des choses correctes.. Il te faudra avoir le temps de faire les papiers d'immatriculation (de 7 à 10 jours).
Pour la deuxième le collègue à loué chez TRACES à TANA. C'est sérieux et il y a le choix sur plusieurs types de machines...
Maintenant, il y a la possibilité de ne pas laisser ta machine sur place pour éviter sans doute une grande partie des taxes...mais je n'ai aucune information sur le prix, les formalités et les délais...

tana ambilobe : goudron nickel, et meme ennuyeux avec le XR ! sauf 50km avant port berge, ou on roule sur le terrassement, avec poussiere epaisse et tres fine, genre casse gu.., un peu de goudron cassé entre anbilobe et diego
ambilobe vohemar 160km de piste plutôt mauvaise, j'ai mis 9 heures par temps sec (mais 60 berges, en solo, je suis devenu prudent !) d'autres m'ont dit l'avoir fait en 4 heures!!, 40 derniers km en sable, les trous ("nids de zebu") sont gros comme un 4*4, si c'est sec c'est rigolo, si il a plu ...

4 h pourquoi pas mais la tu doit passer a cote de pleins de bons moments boire un coup avec les villageois discuter avec, nous on a mis 8h la piste etait tremper et defoncer au mois d'avril les gars qui dise metre 4h doivent prendre beaucoup de risque comme celui de renverser un enfant j'aime aussi la vitesse mais de la a ne pas respecter les autres je trouve cela tres domage

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?

Next October we’re planning to ride the Ruta de la Plata by motorcycle—a historic Spanish route that runs from Gijón to Seville, also known as the N630.
Has anyone here already ridden it?
Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.
