Hey Stéphane,

A little Estonian contribution.

Happy hiking in Marseille! 😎

Hi 🙂

Thanks for this really lovely contribution 😉

I added a few photos of the Cimitero Monumentale in Milan to your post.

Hey! 🙂

Wow, 9 all at once! Thanks for these contributions. I do hope you didn’t spend your whole trip just looking at manhole covers, though 😛

I just made a quick trip to the Spanish border, and while my friends were scouring the shops for alcohol and cigarettes, I thought of you when I saw the manhole covers (I’m not being very nice here...😎)

I thought I had a manhole cover photo somewhere deep in my PC! Photo taken in Bergen, Norway, in September 2007

Hi Julie 🙂

Thanks for this Scandinavian contribution 😉

Hey Stéphane,

The zero point in the old town of Tallinn, Town Hall Square, which also serves as a manhole cover. Thanks to you, I’m making discoveries—I’d even forgotten I’d taken this ‘thing’ in a photo 😛.
ST Stef2Mars Globetrotter ·
Thanks for this lovely plaque 🙂

Hi there.

As promised, I’m laying a few tiles on the table to revive this...

I didn’t think anyone else would ever be interested, so I’m happy to share them with you.

These are the different designs you can find in Santiago de Compostela.

See you around, maybe.
ST Stef2Mars Globetrotter ·
Thanks so much for all your contributions! The post is all cleaned up! 😎

Next up... 😉

Hi there,

Here’s a surprising use—and a second, very unexpected purpose—for a recycled commemorative plaque turned into a manhole cover! The "manhole cover" is in the Andravoahangy market, located northeast of Antananarivo (Madagascar). No comment.....
ST Stef2Mars Globetrotter ·
Hi there! 🙂

Are you sure it's a sewer cover and not a commemorative plaque that was intentionally placed here originally?

Stef
JE Jeep83 Veteran ·
Good evening.

If this plate is on the ground and not on the town hall wall, it’s a misuse.

As for claiming it’s a manhole cover...?
ME Mesrob Veteran ·
Good evening,

The city hall of Tana was never located in this very popular neighborhood of the capital..... Also, it's worth knowing that this plaque is fitted alongside others made of raw cement that cover a drainage canal.... Another thing to know is that in this country, there are no longer any cast-iron sewer covers because the ones that existed during the colonial era were all stolen to be melted down... This photographed plaque was used in this way, but it’s a reflection of many other moments that have disappeared for reasons that don’t need to be explained in this forum or this topic in particular... There you go
ST Stef2Mars Globetrotter ·
Thanks for the explanations! 🙂

😉Good evening,

As usual during my trips, I make sure to check out... manhole covers, and even in Alberobello (Italy, Puglia region), famous for its Trulli, I found one.

Here it is!!

Best regards,

Hey 🙂

Thanks for your contribution. It also dusts off this post that had been forgotten. One of these days, I’ll have to snap a nice "Made in Marseille..." sign 😛

😉Good evening,

You should really thank my husband... he’s on the hunt for manhole covers! Here’s another one I forgot to send you.

Taken in Germany, in Hildesheim—a gorgeous city.

Really creative theme! Here’s a contribution with a plaque I stepped on in the city of Rhodes (Greece). You can make out a deer silhouette... just like on the columns framing the entrance to Rhodes harbor (photo).

Hey everyone! 🙂

My latest find from the village of Pino in Haute-Corse. Sure, it’s a bit commercial, with the logo of a big oil company, but still a cool sign. 😛

One of these days, I should post a Marseille sign, but I haven’t found any nice ones yet... 😕

Hey Stef, if I’d come across this site with photos of manhole covers, but there aren’t any from Marseille either 😕
ST Stef2Mars Globetrotter ·
Probably because they’re not exactly original or aesthetic. I’ll post some as soon as I remember to snap a pic 🙂

Hey Stef,

I just got back from Barcelona and, as promised, I thought of you (not just for the manhole covers but also for Barça and its stadium ;)) Here’s my little contribution :)

For the last two, I’m not sure if they’re manhole covers or access points for technical conduits (electricity, gas, water, etc.)
ST Stef2Mars Globetrotter ·
Thanks for your Catalan contribution! 😎

That’s weird, it looks like it’s written in Italian on the first one... 😮

ST Stef2Mars Globetrotter ·
Hi neighbor! 🙂

Thanks for these two plates. Too bad the second one’s a bit dark—the design looks nice.

Stef
BO Bouboucho Veteran ·
Yeah, I had retouched it to try to remove the reflections from the water. Because in Bergen, it rains. A lot. On average, about half the year. There's a story that goes around in Norway: In Bergen, a tourist asks a child: "-Tell me, does it ever stop raining in this city? - I don't know, I'm only 8 years old," the kid replies.

Just goes to show that Marseille isn't the only place with "exaggerated" stories!

Here's the clearer photo again:
ST Stef2Mars Globetrotter ·
Cute little anecdote 🙂 In Belgium, there's apparently a saying: "If it's not raining, it's because it has rained or it's about to rain." From what I could verify on the spot, it's barely an exaggeration... 😛
