Nous recherchons des conseils pour un tour à moto et 4*4 en Sierra Leone mi avril 2013, par pistes au maximum.
Partons de Dakar jusque Kedougou, ensuite traversée de la Guinée que nous connaissons un peu, et ensuite Sierra Leone pour 5-6 jours.
Une idée est de rentrer par le poste frontière de Memina Oula, s'arrêter au Outamba Kilibi Park, continuer vers Makeni Mongeri et visiter Tiwai Island. Ensuite Yegena Kono Kurubonla pour passer à l'Est des Loma Mountains et sortie de Sierra Leone par Ggeberia Fotombu. Quelqu'un peut'il nous renseigner sur cette boucle : faisable ?, en combien de temps, sympa ?, d'autres points intéressants ? cela vaut'il la peine de descendre jusque Tiwai Island ?
Une autre idée est de remonter après Makeni vers l'ouest des Loma Mountains mais on ne sait pas trop si cela passe entre Alikela et Kayima. Ai mis carte attachée.
Côté administratif, nous aurons un 4*4 immatriculé Sénégal, un 4*4 belge et 3 motos Sénégal. Quelqu'un connait'il les documents à obtenir pour passer de Guinée à Sierra Leone ?
Donc ton itinéraire est bien optimiste, faisable mais avec quelque petit problèmes😉 :
1- Entrer par memina oula, pas de problemes avec les motos mais ca peut causer des petit problemes avec les 4x4. Il y a un petit pont a passer et il n’est pas toujours accessible. L’Outambi Kilimi c’est jolie, il y a une balade a faire en pirogue pour voire les hippos mais pas grand-chose d’autre . Beaucoup plus sympa cote Guinee et plus d’animaux ! Apres il y a un ferry, c’est une espèce de rectangle de bois flottant qui peut amener une voiture a la fois, mi avril il y a encore de l’eau pour passer, pas de problemes.
2- Tiwai Island, pas vraiment de piste, que du piste Kamakwe -Makeni bon goudron Makeni-Bo, mais tu peut faire Makeni-Magbourka *(goudron) et Mile 91 (piste dans les montagne) et Bo goudron + arrive a Tiwai (piste). Une fois que tu a vu Outambi Kilimi c’est tres similaire, mais dix fois plus chère. Tu paye 50 dollars les droit de visiter l’ile (contre 5 pour Outamba) et pas plus d’animaux.
3- Loma mountain. Si tu veut passer par Bumbuna, Alkalia et arrive a Yffin…il y a pas vraiment des montagnes. C’est des collines, joli paysage mais rien a voir avec le fouta Jallon et le mont Bintumani est accessible que si vous marchez 2 jours. Malheureusement le cote Yffin est pas trop facil et il faut remonter a Kabala. Mais tres belle balade a la digue de Bumbuna impressionant et ca vaut plus la peine. Et apres vous stoppez a Kabala (sympa) et faite la route vers la guinee.
4- Sinon l’option apres le Outamba Kilimi est de zapper le cote Tiwai, qui est du meme que Outamba. Donc Kamakw-Magbourka-Mile91-Bo-Kenema-Kono-Makeni-Kabala. Si vous poussez a Kenema il y a la Gola Forest, boucle vers Kono (la ville des diamant) descente sur Makeni (pas possible de faire Kono-Kabala) et vous remontez a Kabala, avec des beaux paysages. 4 jours de pure route suffisent.
Pour avoir une idee de quoi ressemble le park Outamba Kilimi regarde cette video les premier 40 secondes c’est la route Makeni-Outamba-Makeni http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXeu2TX0ZGQ Le reste c'est les plages, Robonko village, Kenema et Kabala.
Pour l'entrée, avec des moto africaine il faut un laissez passer pour la guinée et le Visa pour la Sierra Leone...que malheureusement pour la Sierra Leone vous pouvez pas faire a la frontière ni au Senegal, pas d’ambassade il faudra le faire a Conakry (ce qui fait un ptit detour) ou venir avec les autorisation de Belgique, la il y a le consulat !

Bref, merci pour tes indications. On va examiner tout cela et voir quel itinéraire essayer.
Mon conseil pour bien profiter de la Sierra Leone ce serait plus un tour de ce genre :
Entre par Outamba Kilimi, 1 jour de visite au park.
Kamakwe-Makeni-Waterloo-Bureh (8h) 1 jour a la plage (qui vaut vraiment la peine) En option Bure-Franco ou il y a le meilleur resto de la Sierra leone a 20 km de Freetown (vouz ne passez pas par la capitale)
Bureh-Waterloo-Newton-Moyamba (6 h) piste sympas et petit collines
Moyamba-Moyamba Junction-Mile91-Magbourka (7h) tres belle piste avec le smontagnes au loin
Magbourka-Bumbuna (visite a la digue qui vaut la peine)
Bumbuna-Kabala tres jolie 4 h (avec marcha sur le wara wara (2 h environ)
Au risque d'abuser ... tu semblais bien connaître la Guinée aussi.
Aurais-tu éventuellement des conseils sur les endroits à ne pas rater, les pistes sympas, un circuit qui aboutit au Outamba Kilimi... ?
-visa sierra leonais : il y a une High Commission a Dakar mais ils ne delivrent pas de visa (ils n'ont plus les autocollants !), par contre ils delivrent une lettre tres officielle moyennant 15000 CFA qui doit faciliter la delivrance du visa a la frontiere. Je l'ai prise. Il y a aussi une HC dans le centre de Banjul, c'est 100$ pour un mois pour un ressortissant europeen. Je suis passe par Madina Woula et les douaniers sont vraiment extremement cordiaux, ce qui change de l'atmosphere vraiment pourrie cote guineen. Ils n'ont pas pu me delivrer le visa (!) mais m'ont fait une seconde lettre que j'ai presentee une semaine plus tard au bureau de l'immigration a Freetown ou tout a ete regle dans la bonne humeur en 20 minutes (50$ pour un mois de sejour). Les officiels sierra-leonais sont en general d'une gentillesse extreme et je n'ai jamais eu a sortir une seule fois mon passeport a l'interieur du pays.
-visa guineen pris a Dakar. Madame Sy, la preposee aux visas, est tres sympa. 35000 CFA pour un mois de sejour.
Je suis rentre en Guinee par la Guinee-Bissau ( piste Gabu-Koundara ). Officiels Bissau-Guineens courtois, officiels guineens verreux et corrompus. Attendez-vous a une fouille en bonne et due forme. Heureusement que j'etais en velo...
Piste Koundara-Labe dure en velo, beaucoup de poussiere et de tole ondulee mais beaux paysages.
Piste Labe-Telimele bonne en general. Me suis arrete au campement de Hassan Bah a Doukki pendant quelques jours, beaucoup de randos vraiment belles tout autour et Hassan & Co. connaissant bien la region.
Piste Telimele-Kindia beaucoup moins roulante, beaucoup d'ornieres, de tole ondulee etc... Mais toujours aussi beau.
Kindia-Madina Woula : goudron puis bonne piste. Le pont est en construction mais pas fini, les Chinois sont sur le coup. La barge motorisee fonctionne bien. Beaucoup de controles a la sortie cote guineen, tous plus desagreables les uns que les autres. Gardez le sourire...
Madina Woula-Makeni : Jusqu'a l'entree du parc (30 miles) piste vraiment dure en voiture je pense, les motos passent malgre un ou deux ponts branlants. Le rocher affleure parfois, genre escaliers. Le campememt du parc est bien et Moustafa tres sympa. On peut y manger mais prevoyez quand meme des reserves. Les hippos sont dans l'eau plus bas et les singes dans les arbres du campement. La piste pour Makeni est pas trop mauvaise sauf les derniers 30 kilometres avant Makeni. Des villages tout le long, il y a meme des boissons fraiches a Kamakwie !
Makina-Freetown : goudron divin.

Nous allons nous retrouver presque en même temps au Sierra Léone. Je pars la première quinzaine d'avril pour une reco pour une agence de voyage établie en Guinée. Je serai en fait le cobaye du groupe! Cette agence veut en fait lancer le tourisme en S L et nous allons faire des repérages sur place et je serai chargé plus spécialement des recos sportives.
Nous allons faire à peu près la boucle que vous décrivez en dix ou douze jours. Départ de Conakry puis Kindia pour franchir la frontière et retour direct à Conakry. Je ne peux bien sûr pas vous en dire plus car ce type de voyage n'a pas encore été fait mais à l'heure actuelle il n'y a aucun souci. Attendez vous à avoir très chaud à cette époque de l'année!

D'ailleurs partir avec le vélo me donne des idées. J'ai toujours mon VTT en Guinée que j'avais laissé lors de mon dernier trip VTT dans le Fouta Djallon. Je sens que je vais l'embarquer sur le toit du 4X4!
Si je comprends bien, vous venez de Belgique jusqu'à Dakar en avion, puis le reste en moto?

Bonjour. Nous avons bien fait notre tour de reconnaissance en avril dernier. J'ai atterri à Conakry pour récupérer mes amis guinéens avec leur 4X4. Nous avons franchi la frontière sans problème pour la Siera Léone. Extraordinaire acceuil de tous les officiels à la frontière, tous ravis de nous voir venir chez eux. Photos à la frontière avec policiers, douaniers, militaires. Du jamias vu pour moi depuis 20 ans que je franchis des frontières en Afrique! Ensuite reco dans tout le pays en commençant par les plages au sud de Freetown. Quelques petits hôtels sympa sur la plage avec langoustes et crabes à volonté. Facile de se loger et pas cher. Pour les touristes, c'est ce qui passera le mieux. Ensuite 10 jours dans le reste du pays. Beaucoup plus rustique mais très sympa dans l'esprit de ce genre de voyage. On plante la tente où on veut en toute sécurité. Sur la place des villages, au bord des rivières, sur des îles, en forêt. Partout sans problème. Nombreux passage de bacs. Un excellent voyage que je conseille à tous.

Coucou, 2013 c'est un peu loin mais j'aimerais savoir si il est possible de faire la route du mali ou de la guinée avec une berline ou un SUV genre Santa fé en Siérra léonne, Gasoil ? route bitumés et quelques conseil en plus
C’est possible, mais il faut prendre la frontière de Kindia qui est bitume. Les autres routes sont faisables, même en berline, pas de boue ou de sable en ce moment mai…beaucoup de caillou, donc il faut rouler doucement et ça passe !
Pour le Gasoile pas de problemes a en trouver mais pas toujours de bonne qualite...

Vous trouverez sans doute sur place soit par un loueur de véhicules soit par le biais d'un particulier qui accepte de vous louer sa moto. Mais bon...je suis pas sûre que sous louer soit une bonne chose légalement, on ne sait jamais. Et vous risquez d'être repéré, embêté par les policiers s'ils vous contrôlent. Pour ma part je me souviens de les voir souvent postés aux mêmes endroits (à Freetown en tout cas) ...

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.
I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

Why not explore the Peloponnese!
I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.
Do a loop.
What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Next October we’re planning to ride the Ruta de la Plata by motorcycle—a historic Spanish route that runs from Gijón to Seville, also known as the N630.
Has anyone here already ridden it?
Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

We’ve rented two Royal Enfield 450s.
This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
Here’s the idea:
Day 1 (departure at noon): Marrakech - Tizi n Test - Tafingoult (165 km - 4h15)
Day 2: Tafingoult - Amzarkou - Telouet (200 km - 4h34)
Day 3: Telouet - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne (200 km - 3h30) (+ Vallée des Roses maybe)
Day 4: Boumalne - Dades Gorges - Agoudal - Todra Gorges - Tinghir - Goulmima (291 km - 6h)
Day 5: Goulmima - Midelt - Cirque Jaffar - Agoudim (280 km - 4h45)
Day 6: Agoudim - Imilchil - Aghbala - El Ksiba (280 km - 4h45)
Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20)
Day 8: Ahansal - Ouzoud Waterfalls via R 302 (188 km - 4h22)
Day 9: Ouzoud - Marrakech (160 km - 2h43)

We haven’t booked any hotels—is that a problem? We were thinking of deciding day by day based on our progress.
Can we take our helmets with us in the cabin, or should we pack them in the checked luggage surrounded by clothes to avoid damage?
