Une spéciale dédicace à Kemai qui, d'après ce que je peux voir en passant toutes mes soirées a surfer sur les differents forums de voyageurs, est très actif et toujours prompt à donner des infos objectives et "engagées"...
Mon ami et moi partons du 17 au 25 mai a phuket, je suis très impatiente de regoûter à cette ambiance si particulière que l'on trouve en asie, melange d'odeurs, de sons et de moiteur. Je suis allée il y a 10 ans a koh samui et j'ai parcouru bali pendant 3 semaines il y a quelques années.
J'ai conscience que 7 nuits sont très peu de temps pour decouvrir l'île, mais ce sera deja énorme pour nous de nous echapper d'une vie parisienne qui nous rend de plus en plus perplexe.😕
Nous n'avons pris pour l'instant qu'un vol sec et j'ai passé pas mal de temps sur le net à chercher des hôtels qui nous branchent bien. Notre trip, ce serait plutôt d'eviter patong, de parcourir la côte avec une voiture de loc et peut-être si le temps de permet de passer une ou deux nuits sur une île comme Koh yao Noi qui me semble encore assez préservée (quelqu'un peut il infirmer ou confirmer?). A ce sujet, quelqu'un peut-il me dire où se trouve le point de depart pour cette île, je ne crois pas l'avoir trouvé dans mes recherches...🤪
Voici les hôtels qui m'ont tapé dans l'oeil, avez-vous des avis sur ces endroits???:
Central Karon Village, bangtao beach chalet, le Marina Phuket (Karon beach) et surtout le "sawasdee village" sur Kata beach.
Pour finir, j'ai pu voir que la region de khao lak possede quelques hotels assez proches de ce que l'on recherche (similana resort) et de tres beaux paysages, mais est-ce une mauvaise idée de se disperser autant ou est-il possible d'integrer cette partie de la côte dans notre trip????🤪🤪

Tout d abord merci pour ta "speciale dedicace" ca fait toujours plaisir😉
L embarcadere pour Ko Yao Noi et Yai se nomme Bang Rong et se trouve au Nord Est de l ile...compter environ une heure de traversee (80 bahts par personne)...un supplement de 100 bahts vous seras demande si vous souhaiter embarquer avec votre propre scooter...qui reste pour moi le meilleur moyen de decouvrir la cote ouest de Phuket...et ces iles.Vous pourrez egalement vous rendre sur Ko Hong et Ko Rang Nok depuis Ko Yao pour faire du snorkeling si les conditions climatiques sont honorables.
En ce qui concerne les endroits que tu mentionnes(sans parler de la qualite des hotels...)Karon n a pas ma preference et ensuite pour Bang Tao et Kata tout depend de tes envies en sachant que Kata est plutot familiale avec une quantitee de restos, magazins assez important et Bang Tao est plus retire et calme...

Alors je daignerais abuser en te posant encore quelques petites questions supplementaires...est-ce qu'on peut se loger facilement sur la côte est et que penses-tu de la region de khao lak???
Mes envies sont simples, panacher entre des coins calmes et animés et être au contact de la vie locale...aller un peu au hasard et se perdre souvent...faire de belles images (nous sommes tous les deux dans la partie) et retrouver un semblant de zenitude., ça te parait possible?

Un conseil...contente toi de la cote ouest et du sud de l ile + excursions sur les iles voisines !!!
Si tu as la possibilite de bouger un peu en voiture alors va plutot du cote de Krabi(2 heures 30 de trajet)...les paysages sont somptueux et la region est relativement calme en basse saison...Khao Lak c est sympa mais pas vraiment de depaysement par rapport a Phuket...voila pour mon avis 😉

Ma préférence va à Karon pour loger, mais ça c'est personnel. J'y ai des amis. Sinon je suis d'accord avec ce qui a été dit.
Je pars vivre à Phuket dans environ un mois. Après 8 voyages en Thaïlande je fais le grand saut.
Je connais très bien le Marina dont tu parles, des amis et leurs femmes y ont logé. J'aime beaucoup y manger. Mias je te tréviens, le tarif commence à 100 $ la nuit. C'est un petit coin de paradis caché dans les arbres.
Je suis allé 8 fois au Golden Sand à Karon. En basse saison je pense que pour un joli bungalow avec petit déj tu en auras pour 1000 baths maxi. (pour 2 biensur).
Ma plage préférée est Naï Harn...très au sud de l'île. très joli, je pense vivre pas loin de la.

je confirme l'avis de Kemaï faire la route de Phuket jusqu'à Krabi un vrai régal et faire un tour à AO-Nang c'est à 15 Km de Krabi j'ai dû le faire une dizaine de fois et je m'en lasse jamais, par contre perso je le fais toujours en voiture je fourre mes sacs à dos dans le coffre et tranquille, mais surtout ne jamais louer des voitures aux loueurs de rues le mieux c'est de louer vers des grosses compagnies, Budget, Avis, hertz cet... les voitures en très bons états et surtout les assurances aux normes international pas de soucis en cas de petit pépin . Pas oublier le permis international .
La côte Ouest de Phuket du Sud au Nord très bien tu verras des coins de rêve . Et pas oublier de voir au Nord de Phuket Naï-Yang beach un havre de paix là .

C'est marrant, je me demande souvent ce qui peut être l'élément détonateur pour decider de partir vivre sur un autre continent, sans être trop curieuse, qu'est ce qui t'appelle tant là-bas? Si je te pose cette question c'est que mon ami et moi aspirons souvent a une autre qualité de vie, c'est si facile de se projeter en avant mais il nous arrive aussi souvent de nous demander si l'herbe est vraiment plus verte ailleurs...Peux-tu nous faire partager un peu de ton expérience?
Effectivement, le "Marina" m'a vraiment tapé dans l'oeil, pour la periode qui nous interesse, les chambres "jungle view" sont à 67 euros la nuit, ça me parait raisonnable si on a vraiment envie d'en profiter au moins une ou deux nuits...!
En tous cas, je te souhaite toute la réussite possible dans ta "nouvelle" vie et merci encore pour tes conseils avisés sur les plus belles plages de l'île!

Comme tu en parles, a propos des voitures, est ce que ça craint particulierement de laisser ses sacs dans la voiture, j'ai eu une tres mauvaise experience a Bali et depuis je suis un peu echaudée!!! j'espère que vous allez me rassurer!

Phuket c'est excellent comme aéroport d'arriver, je voulais juste dire que ça vaut le coup de faire Phuket Krabi par la route c'est magnifique à voir tu peux le faire dans la journée en partant tôt ou en deux jours puis retour à Phuket que du bonheur, et faire toute la côte ouest de Phuket il y a des coins superbes à voir .en 7 jours tu as largement le temps de faire tout ça .
Et pas de soucus pour les vols dans la voiture, j'y vais depuis douze ans jamais eu de problème .

je vais essayer de te répondre. En tout cas, quand je lis les posts des autres, on est tombé amoureux du pays et de ses habitants. Il n'y pas de démarche sentimentale en ce qui me conserne ( je veux dire, je n'y vais pas pour une femme). Je trouve que c'est important à préciser. J'ai vu trop de gens pèter un cable pour les yeux de la princesse.
J'ai surtout besoin de changement. Après 10 ans dans la même boîte de dingue, à chaque retour je me demande mais qu'est-ce que je fais la ? biensur il faut des moyens pour partir comme ça.
Je n'ai pas de durée preétablie, 1 an, 3 ans une vie ....on verra
ce que je peux dire, c'est qu'au pire ça me fera de longues vacances et au mieux, j'arrive à m'organiser une vie paisible la-bas.
J'ai aussi une envie furieuse de visiter les pays vosins. Je pense que depuis Phuket je vais pouvoir établir mon camp de base (en toute modestie).
Quand on voit le cout des trajets, on peut avoir des oportunités incroyables de bourlinguer.

Je te conseille un scoot uniquement pour parcourir la cote ouest de Phuket et eventuellement Ko Yao...(quoique sur ces iles tu trouveras un engin sans difficulte...ne te prend pas la tete...moi je fais comme ca car j ai quelques relations qui me permettent de deposer mes bagages et de partir "lege"pour quelques nuits sur ces iles...) pour Krabi par contre il te faut une voiture...

Salut, moi à Kata Beach à Phuket je te conseille plutôt le Flamingo Resort, c'est des superbe bungalows pour 500B en basse saison (juin à août) avec air clim. Ils sont tous en hauteur des une coline en face de la mer. C'est vraiment super. si tu veux un resto tenu par un français et sa femme thai, il y a Le Grand Prix, tenu par Lionel un français. Bref, voilà, pour plus dinfos, tu peux aller voir sur mon site web ci-bas dans le blog. a+

Tu vois pumpui, tu attises beaucoup de curiosité!!! Mais je la comprends tellemement bien, nous sommes tous a la recherche de temoignages d'experience réussie dans ce domaine, qui donnerait un peu plus corps à nos envies d'expatriation. Je comprends plus que tout tes sentiments de "gâchis" face à notre vie "ici-bas", depuis mon trentième anniversaire, je ne cesse de penser que la vie est courte et qu'on s'encombre avec tant de choses inutiles...j'espère justement reprendre un peu mon souffle pendant ces 10 jours...

J'ai vu que tu donnais de précieux conseils sur ce forum en ce qui concerne la Thailande..Pourrais-tu me donner quelques infos s'il te plait, je repars en janvier en Thailande (seulement pour 15 jours) et on va axer notre sejour plutot sur les plages.. J'ai 4 jours obligés à Phuket en début de séjour et je voulais peut être aller sur Koh Yao (avis très divergents) et/ou Koh Racha.. Exsite-t-il une liaison bateau entre les 2 sans repasser par Phuket ? Cela vaut-il le coup ? ou alors de je reste 2 jours sur Koh Yao et je pars à la journée sur Koh Racha ??
De +, tu dis bien connaitre les îles plus au sud. Je n'ai eu la chance que de faire Koh Lanta (qu'on a adoré) mais là je voudrais en profiter pour voir autre chose et je pensais plutot Koh Ngai (+ une excursion à la journée sur Koh Rok), Koh Muk (est-ce trop petit, 2 jours suffisent-ils ?) et pour finir par Koh Kradan ??
Ou alors complètement autre chose, Koh Ngai et Koh Lipe pour finir ???

De Ko Yao Noi a Ko Raya la distance est mine de rien assez eleve...je n ai jamais entendu parle de liaisons entre ces deux iles...car la frequentation y est modeste donc il te faudra surement faire un choix !!!
Ces iles sont tres differentes...on ne vient pas y chercher les memes choses...sur Yao tu trouveras une vie locale...des rizieres...des ballades en deux roues seront possibles mais tu n y trouveras pas la mer translucide de Ko Raya...une des plus belles du royaume !!!
Pour les iles au sud de Lanta...choisit une ile pour le logement et rayonne autour par la suite(en long tail boat)...les iles de Ko Ngai, Muuk, Kradan sont tres proches !!! Ngai et Kradan ne possedent pas la petite vie locale de Muuk mais possedent des plages plus sympas avec possibilite de snorkeling !!! Pour Ko Rok...les etablissements organisent des excursions sur celle ci a la journee !!!
Pour Ko Lipeh...vaut elle la peine d effectuer un assez long trajet apres avoir gouter aux iles de Trang ??? Je suis assez sceptique en fait... j ai deja emmener des amis faire le tour des iles entre Ko Ngai et Lipeh...et bien ils ont ete un peu decu en arrivant sur Lipeh...surtout qu apres Muuk et Kradan tu peux aussi t arreter sur Libong, Ko Sukhorn, Laoliang et Ko Bulon mais aussi les plages sur le continent !!!

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

Does anyone know of a private transfer or taxi company that organizes transfers from the Sukhothai area to Chiang Mai?
Our routes are Sukhothai-Lampang, Lampang-Chom Thong, and Chom Thong-Chiang Mai.
My searches on Google Maps, 12Go, and others haven’t turned up much...
For our Bangkok-Sukhothai trips, I use a company I’ve already tried, but they don’t have a fleet available from Sukhothai and have to go through third-party companies—which, understandably, take their commission. This nearly doubles the prices...
There are four of us, and we’re not traveling light, so a minibus isn’t an option. ;-)

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

Family of 4—2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 15) who are well-traveled.
We’re planning a 15-day trip to Indonesia and would love your thoughts on our itinerary.
We love discovering local culture, food (!!), seeing beautiful landscapes, and keeping an active pace. We’re not the type to lounge on the beach for 5 hours or spend ages by the pool when we’re halfway across the world. Also, we try to avoid places "ruined" by mass tourism (like Holbox in Mexico, which we loved 10 years ago but not at all on our last visit, or Phi Phi in Thailand, completely destroyed by mass tourism).
Special note: we love traveling by train :)

We’ve just started planning our family trip to Vietnam this coming August. We’d like to travel from North to South, starting in Hanoi and ending in Ho Chi Minh.
Usually, we rent a car when we arrive and manage on our own. But I get the feeling that in Vietnam, it’s more complicated... It seems like the only option we have is to rent a car with a driver? Is that really the case?
I’m thinking of starting with a cruise in Halong Bay since we arrive on my partner’s birthday, and I wanted a beautiful setting to celebrate it. So, is the option of having a driver wait for 2 days while we’re on the cruise really feasible?
The rest of the itinerary isn’t planned at all yet. I’d love to hear your tips. We’re traveling from August 8th (morning) to the 26th (afternoon).
