Hi there, I’m planning a cross-Canada bike trip, and I’ve got a question that might seem silly, but could someone tell me how to pack a bike (in a box, with a fragile sticker... I don’t know) for a flight? Thanks in advance!

Hi there, It’s true, there have been huge questions about this. When I asked the same question as you, I got answers from all over the place. In the meantime, I left with a bike bag from Decathlon to fit my bike in. It’s true, I didn’t go to Canada, but my bike left in one piece and came back without any damage. No regrets about that purchase. Good luck choosing your packaging.

Come visit us in Quebec, we're on the Warm Showers list. For us with our tandem, we pack less and less. They pay more attention than if the bike is in a box. Because the box often ends up under other luggage! Check out our site, there's a photo. See the blog from January 10th. Note that the wheels are free to roll, which makes the task easier for us and for them. Be sure to deflate the tires just enough to roll. Of course, some airlines are nicer than others with bikes. Here, Air Transat, which regularly flies Paris-Montreal, is certainly the best—just a clear plastic bag is enough. Safe travels!

Hi there, That’s true—every country has its own rules when it comes to transporting bikes on planes. Some travelers are luckier than we are here in Belgium. I checked out your travel site, and I just wanted to say how impressed I am with your work for sick children. Keep up the great job!

Here’s the packaging I now use for flying. For a few euros for wrapping at the airport and some spacers at the fork and stays, it’s the most compact and rigid solution I’ve found for transport. Not too many issues with handling on public transport, but it’s easy to assemble—just time-consuming.
