We're planning to spend a month in Vietnam. Is hiring a guide helpful?

Hey, Personally, I don’t see the point for the whole trip. You can hire one for specific places if you want insights into history or culture—like for the Citadel of Huế, for example. How are you planning to travel? Though your username gives a hint 😉

Hi there, As others have mentioned, how do you usually travel, which regions are you visiting, and is this your first trip? If so, you’ll probably follow the crowd by choosing your travel partners along the way. As pointed out, in places like Huế and/or its surroundings, a day guide can be a real plus. The further you go into the countryside, the less likely locals are to speak English—sometimes they don’t even speak Vietnamese. Your guide will then double as your translator for some amazing explorations. Have a great trip! Eric

Hi,

Personally, I did everything myself and only hired a guide occasionally for certain excursions, especially in Ha Giang and Ha Long. That said, it also depends on your experience with travel planning and how comfortable you feel. What are your concerns?
