How to book a Cairo–Aswan train?
The enr.gov.eg site says train reservations are only for Egyptians. What should I do if I want to book a first-class air-conditioned ticket (not a sleeper berth)? Thanks!

16-Day Off-the-Beaten-Path Japan Itinerary
Hello, We’re two active and fit retired couples. We’re planning a trip for the second half of March 2026. We prefer traveling by train but wouldn’t mind renting a car if necessary. We don’t want to change accommodations every night (we’d rather see less but enjoy it more). If possible, we’d love to stay in guesthouses or similar—impersonal hotels aren’t really our thing. Questions: What do you think are the best airlines? We don’t have to fly back from Tokyo. We’re also big fans of getting off the beaten path—any original ideas are welcome! Many thanks in advance, Gorgui

Is the Interrail Global Pass Worth It?
Hi everyone, my husband and I are planning a night-train trip in September: first to Vienna (3 nights), then Budapest (2 nights), Bratislava (1 night or skip it?), Salzburg (1 night), Munich (1 night), and maybe Stuttgart (1 night) before heading back to Paris. The whole trip will be by train.

Is it worth getting the Interrail Global Pass for this? Thanks for your feedback!

Eurocity train: luggage limits and frequency
Hi, We're taking the train between Brussels - Rotterdam - Amsterdam, likely an Eurocity. I'm wondering if there's a limit on luggage (number of suitcases and size). Another question: on the Rotterdam -> Brussels route, it seems there aren't any trains on Saturday afternoons. Do trains run frequently on Saturdays and maybe Sundays in the Netherlands? Thanks in advance for your replies! :)

Tips for visiting the Cinque Terre by train
Hi everyone! 👋 So happy to be back in this lovely space for meeting and chatting 😊 I’m planning a 5-6 day trip to the Cinque Terre between September and October, focusing on using the train to get between the villages. I’m coming from Nice, so I could head to Genoa first… Has anyone done this route? I’d love to hear your feedback, tips, and—of course—any great deals you’ve found! Thanks so much in advance 😊 Since then, I’ve traveled all over the world and would be thrilled to help others with just as much JOY 🤗

Traveling by train from Luang Prabang to Vientiane
hi, we’re planning to take the fast train from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. Is it true that aerosol sprays like Insect-Ecran are confiscated before boarding the train? Do we need Malarone for the area around Luang Prabang? We’re really looking forward to discovering this beautiful country. We’ll also take the chance to visit an elephant protection center. Thanks for any tips! Best, Monique

Train journey Arusha - Dar Es Salaam / Dar Es Salaam - Morogoro
Hi there, We’ll be traveling as a family with our two teens (16 and 14) in Tanzania in August 2025 for three weeks. We’d like to use public transport to get around, especially the train between Arusha and Dar Es Salaam, as well as the Dar Es Salaam–Morogoro route. We’re looking for: - firsthand experiences - fares - journey durations - how to book (in advance? or on the day?) - a website to check train schedules?

Thanks for your tips!

Train itinerary in Japan: Kinosaki Onsen – Himeji – Hiroshima
Hi there,

I’m continuing to plan our next trip for this coming November.

I’d love to know if it’s realistic to leave Kinosaki Onsen by train in the morning, stop at Himeji Castle (for a visit), and then continue on to Hiroshima to spend the night.

From what I’ve seen, visiting Himeji takes about half a day, and there are coin lockers nearby to store our luggage.

Thanks in advance for your help!

15 days in Rajasthan by train and bus
Good evening everyone. I’m so glad VoyageForum is back up and running. This forum has helped me plan so many trips thanks to all your contributions. So, I’m turning to you for advice on a trip I’m planning for March 2025, from the 7th to the 21st. I was thinking of a classic itinerary: Arrival in Delhi at 12:05 AM on Saturday, then taking a train in the afternoon to Agra. 2 nights in Agra 2 nights in Jaipur 2 nights in Pushkar 2 nights in Jodhpur 3 nights in Udaipur Then flying back to Delhi. The trip would mostly be by train (which we love) and bus. However, after reading various travelers’ comments, some cities seem less interesting, while others I hadn’t included—like Bundi and Jaisalmer—are catching my eye. But traveling by train and bus, I’m worried it might get really complicated. I’m not sure how to organize my stay anymore, especially since we love nature and peace and quiet… and I’m afraid of too much hassle if everything isn’t planned. Also, how can I book trains and buses in advance from France? Thanks in advance for your help. Magali

Train between Osaka and Odawara
Hi everyone,

I’m so happy to be posting on this forum again. I’m planning my trip and I’m trying to figure out the train route from Osaka to Odawara. I’ve found direct trains, but I can’t find a direct site for the specific train line (not sure if I’m making sense?!)

Because what I’ve found seems to be a “third-party” site. I can’t seem to find the official site for the specific line. If anyone can shed some light on this, I’d really appreciate it—thanks in advance!

Best,

How Supratours Works for Rabat - Tangier - Tétouan Route
Hi, I’d like to travel from Rabat to Tétouan. Besides the CTM option, which takes 4 hours from the CTM station, there’s the Supratours option that combines a train from Rabat to Tangier and then a bus from Tangier to Tétouan. From what I understand, Supratours is the bus company affiliated with Morocco’s national railway. My question is: where do we catch the bus after arriving at Tangier Ville train station? Is it right at the train station in Tangier Ville, or do we need to go to the bus station, which is pretty far from the train station? Thanks! Daniel

Kandy to Ella Train (Sri Lanka)
Hi there, It's really tough to book seats for early February. After trying multiple times on the official online sites, everything seems to be fully booked already. Hiring a taxi is an option, but even then, there aren’t many choices—agencies prioritize tour packages. Do you have any tips for making the trip from Kandy to Ella? Thanks! Have a great day.

Hi, I’m planning a ski trip to Zermatt in February. I’ve heard there’s a Milan–Zermatt train that crosses the mountains in about 2h30. Is that right, and is it a scenic route?

Zurich - Munich and Zurich - Vienna Trains
Good evening, New to this forum, I’d love to explore these two routes mentioned in the title—train travel is a real pleasure for me. 🙂

Has anyone taken the EuroCity Zurich–Munich or the Railjet Express Zurich–Vienna? How are they in terms of crowding, delays, onboard services, and scenery along the way?

Thanks in advance!

URGENT! No OTP - how to proceed without an IRCTC account? (India)
Hi there,

I need help creating my IRCTC account. I tried to create an account via the website (not the app), but I’m not receiving any OTP at my email address. It asks me to verify my OTP to confirm registration, but I’ve tried multiple emails and checked spam, trash, etc.—nothing. I’m not getting any OTP at all.

What should I do now?

I want to take the train from Delhi to Agra Cantt. What are my options without an IRCTC account? I have a trip from New Delhi to Agra and another from Agra to Jaipur.

FYI: I’d prefer to avoid the bus since it doesn’t seem to stop, and I don’t feel comfortable jumping off a moving bus. Too risky for my taste.

Thanks in advance for your help!
