Accommodation in Panama
FR

Overview of the Offer

Accommodation in Panama is quite similar to what you can find in Costa Rica, but in smaller numbers (if only because there are far fewer tourist areas) and at a lower price. In the capital and tourist zones (central-west Pacific, Bocas del Toro, etc.), you’ll find all kinds of hotels, including luxury ones, all-inclusive resorts, lodges, bungalows, and homestays. In short, there’s plenty of choice, though it’s best to book the best places during Christmas or Easter, which are peak times with matching prices. Off the beaten track, the selection is naturally much smaller, but you’ll still find somewhere to sleep everywhere.

Hotels

High-End and All-Inclusive

You’ll find luxury establishments in the capital, in some spots along the Pacific coast, and even "hidden" in nature or by the sea. While large hotels are common, charming or characterful lodges have also grown in popularity in recent years. As for all-inclusive resorts, they’re mainly found along the coast between the capital and the Azuero Peninsula, catering primarily to a North American clientele. As always, package deals are usually the better option.

Mid-Range

In major cities and tourist spots, you can choose mid-range establishments that are often well-equipped and accustomed to foreign visitors. This category offers the best value—expect to pay around $25–30 for a double room to get a solid pick.

Budget

This is generally what you’ll find for just under $15–20 for a double, though comfort and service can sometimes be a bit basic. Around $10, you’ll find dorm beds, especially in the few youth hostels.

Other Options

Camping

There’s no real camping culture in Panama. While wild camping or sleeping in a hammock is possible in nature or by the sea, it’s not necessarily recommended, if only due to the risk of theft.

Homestays

B&B-style stays or similar are available in the country. This option has grown mainly among European or North American residents, who generally offer quality choices at prices comparable to mid-range hotels.
