Flying to Central Spain
Location Map of Central Spain
Overview
Although Castile and, more broadly, central Spain account for nearly half of the national territory, there is really only one airport at the heart of the region: Madrid Adolfo Suárez (formerly Barajas). With over 40 million passengers per year, it is by far the busiest in the country and one of the thirty largest in the world, serving as a hub for several airlines, including Iberia. Beyond the capital, other airports exist, but their activity is limited to a few rare routes (Burgos, Salamanca, Valladolid...) or has even ceased entirely, often due to lack of profitability, as in León.
Types of flights
Charter, scheduled, and low-cost flights
As with most major European cities, the destination is a mix of scheduled and low-cost flights, with the latter increasingly dominating short- and medium-haul traffic.

From France
From Paris
In addition to departures from Beauvais with Ryanair, there are flights from Roissy with Air France, easyJet, Iberia, and Vueling, plus Air Europa, Air Nostrum, and Transavia from Orly to Madrid. Expect around 2 hours of flight time for 90 € to 200 € round trip.
From the regions
Beyond connecting flights with various European carriers, regional airports serve Madrid well, particularly thanks to Air Nostrum. As a subsidiary of Iberia, its role includes feeding passengers from France to its parent company’s long-haul flights.
