Flying to Réunion
Location Map of Réunion
General Information
Réunion has two airports: Roland-Garros Airport near Saint-Denis and Pierrefonds Airport in Saint-Pierre, in the south of the island. As expected, Roland Garros handles by far the most traffic, while Pierrefonds only sees limited flights to Mauritius and a shuttle service to Saint-Denis for connecting Air Austral flights.
Types of Flights
Local Airlines
Réunion has only one local carrier, Air Austral, based at Roland-Garros Airport. It serves around a dozen cities.
Charter, Scheduled, and Low-Cost Flights
The island primarily receives scheduled flights, apart from a few seasonal flights from mainland France.
Promotions and Special Offers
Occasionally, you can find good deals on flights with French airlines operating direct routes.
From Mainland France
Orly (Air France + Corsair + French Bee) and Roissy (Air Austral) are directly connected to Réunion in about 11 hours. Prices range from 680 to 1,000 €. For regional flights, Air Austral is the only airline offering direct routes from Marseille. All other options require a connecting flight via Paris, often with a TGV Air pre-connection.
Direct or Connecting Flights
While there are connecting flight options (Air Mauritius, Air Madagascar, etc.), direct flights from mainland France remain the most attractive in terms of both price and duration. In short, these are the recommended choices.
From Another Country
Belgium, Switzerland, Canada
No direct flights are available, so a connecting flight—typically via Paris—is required.
Other Destinations
- Madagascar: Antananarivo (Air Austral + Air Madagascar), Antsiranana (Air Madagascar), Nosy Be (Air Austral + Air Madagascar), Sainte-Marie (Air Madagascar), Tamatave (Air Austral).
- Other Indian Ocean Destinations: The Comoros (Moroni), Mayotte, and the Seychelles have Air Austral flights (as does Johannesburg). Mauritius is served by airlines from both islands.
- Asia: Air Austral flights to Bangkok and Chennai.
