Airports in Tokyo

Although the Tokyo metropolitan area and its surroundings have several airports of various sizes, two handle the overwhelming majority of air traffic:

  • Haneda International Airport: Originally Tokyo's only airport until Narita was built. It primarily serves domestic flights, low-cost carriers, and regional routes. This doesn’t stop it from being one of the busiest airports in the world.
  • Narita International Airport: While it’s Tokyo’s—and even Japan’s—main international hub, Narita handles nearly half the traffic of Haneda.
