Local Cuisine

Guadeloupean cuisine, much like Martiniquan cuisine, reflects its population and origins—meaning it is highly varied. It blends metropolitan and European, African, Indian, Chinese, and Caribbean influences, all combined with local products, especially the island’s diverse fruits and vegetables. Note that there are also some typical specialties from Les Saintes, where traditional gastronomy revolves around seafood.

Where to Eat

Depending on your preferences and budget, there are several dining options on the island. "Classic" restaurants are the most expensive, often costing at least 20 € per meal. In contrast, small family-run establishments offer meals for nearly half that price. Most restaurants serve lunch from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM and dinner from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, and many are closed on Sundays.

You can also choose food trucks or street vendors (under 10 €), picnics, or—if you’re staying in a guesthouse or other accommodation with a kitchen—cooking your own meals. While many products are pricier than in mainland France, this is the most budget-friendly option.
