Local Cuisine

Mauritian cuisine is very rich and varied due to the diverse origins of its inhabitants. You’ll find Indian, Creole, Chinese, and European gastronomy. However, there’s less variety on Rodrigues, where dishes are less spicy and primarily based on local products.

Where to Eat

You can eat very well in Mauritius, and there’s no shortage of places to dine. From small local eateries to restaurants catering to tourists, as well as street vendors, everyone will find something to suit their taste—whether for a full meal or just a quick snack. Note that beyond all-inclusive resorts, many accommodations of all categories offer half-board options.

In any case, eating out is affordable and one of the most budget-friendly expenses during a trip to Mauritius. Expect to pay around 5 to 8 € for budget meals and around 10 to 12 € for more tourist-oriented restaurants. Keep in mind that the 15% VAT is rarely included in the prices displayed at mid-range or upscale establishments.
