Tourism
These three island groups in the north/northeast of Indonesia are rarely visited. Not always easy to travel through, and locally or occasionally unsafe, tourists generally prefer other regions of the country. Nevertheless, adventurous nature lovers will find plenty to explore off the beaten path, particularly in Kalimantan—the Indonesian part of Borneo—and its many national parks featuring tropical forests where orangutan populations live. Beyond that, the Toraja Land (on Sulawesi), where strong traditions endure, is sure to capture attention.
