Luzon Island Group

Banaue, Philippines
Banaue, Philippines

This is the northernmost group of islands in the Philippines, with the large island of Luzon hosting the capital Manila. For travellers, this part of the country offers a wide range of activities and sights, from historical landmarks (Spanish era, World War II), to vibrant local cultures and traditions (especially around Sagada), and stunning landscapes—Banaue and its famous UNESCO-listed terraced rice fields are the highlight. There’s also a great selection of outdoor activities, as well as beautiful beaches and numerous diving spots, much like the rest of the archipelago.

Visayas Island Group

Boracay, Philippines
Boracay, Philippines

These are the central islands of the Philippine archipelago. While they boast cultural heritage and natural beauty, they’re best known for their stunning tropical beaches and excellent diving and snorkelling opportunities, such as at El Nido and Boracay, to name just the most famous spots.

Mindanao Island Group

Camiguin, Philippines
Camiguin, Philippines

This is the southernmost region of the Philippines. Home to a large Muslim minority, it enjoys a degree of autonomy, though an independence guerrilla movement has been active here for decades. As a result, much of the area is considered unsafe, which has severely limited tourism.
