Where to Eat

Plenty of options for dining out, from "classic" restaurants to guest tables, snack bars, and "camion bars".

Creole restaurants and others are mainly found in towns and on the west coast, with few in the "Hauts", where they are replaced by guest tables. Meals are generally served earlier than in mainland France, especially in the evening, with service often between 7 and 9:30 PM. Depending on the category and specialities, you can expect a full meal for as little as fifteen euros.

More affordable, the traditional "camion bars" offer Creole dishes or sandwiches for under ten euros. However, due to administrative regulations, these are gradually being replaced by small open-air restaurants or "food trucks", where meals remain inexpensive. Also worth noting is the (hearty) Sunday picnic, a long-standing tradition for many locals.
