Nature-Adventure
The sea, the mountains, and especially beautiful gorges like those of Samaria, which are among the most remarkable in Europe for many. The island is therefore also a popular nature destination, particularly for hiking enthusiasts.
Culture
Crete is not just about beach holidays; it also boasts a rich and unique history and culture, notably with its Minoan-era sites like Knossos, which remains the most famous. Additionally, there are several beautiful monasteries (Arkadi, Preveli...), some fortresses, and charming old quarters in towns like Chania.
Relaxation-Holidays
The sea, beaches, seaside resorts on the north coast and their lively atmosphere, as well as the hinterland, attract hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. So, everything is here for a perfect holiday...
Beaches and Seaside Resorts

Crete is an island rich in coves, beaches of all kinds, and seaside resorts. The north coast has long been the best-equipped in terms of infrastructure, with resorts scattered almost all along the coast, from Kissamos to Sitia. Among the most well-known are Bali (also popular with divers), Georgioupoli (a large resort in the northwest), Hersonissos and Malia (known for young and festive tourism), or Rethymnon, which also offers an old town to explore. The downside: crowds in season and the prices that come with them...
More rugged, less accessible by road, and therefore less developed for tourism, the south coast offers a different experience. Nevertheless, there are several resorts or sites worth visiting for swimming and relaxation, such as Ierapetra, Matala, Plakias, or Palaiochora, located at the far southwest tip.
