Nature-Adventure
Nature is everywhere in Namibia. Beyond its sparse population, the country has around twenty parks and reserves covering nearly 20% of its territory. Additionally, it is home to two deserts: the Namib, the world’s oldest coastal desert, and the legendary Kalahari inland. It’s no surprise that exploring this environment and the activities it offers is the primary reason tourists visit.
Culture
Two main areas of interest for culture enthusiasts: traces of the past and encounters with local communities. While Namibia has ancient historical sites like the Twyfelfontein rock art sites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the most visible remnants are the buildings and distinctive architecture from the German colonial era. Cities like Lüderitz (and the nearby ghost town of Kolmanskop), Swakopmund, Grootfontein, Keetmanshoop, and the capital Windhoek still preserve many architectural testimonies from that period.
The country is also a blend of communities with vibrant cultures and traditions, from indigenous groups (such as the Himba and Herero in the Kaokoland) to descendants of German settlers and Afrikaners.
Relaxation-Holidays
Though Namibia has over 1,500 km of coastline, its desert setting (part of the Namib Desert) and relatively cold waters have limited the development of beach resorts. Still, there are a few, like Henties Bay or Swakopmund. The interior, however, isn’t typically associated with "relaxation-holidays" as most people understand the term.
Independent Travel
Namibia is a destination for beginner or slightly experienced travelers, especially if you venture outside cities with your own vehicle—even more so off the beaten path.
