Relaxation-Holidays

With its many seaside resorts, particularly in Sinai and the Red Sea, the country is traditionally a top destination for "relaxation-holidays" and "all-inclusive" stays.

Independent Travel

For independent travellers, Egypt has (become) a destination for those with some experience, if only because the country now requires a certain level of vigilance regarding security.

All-inclusive holidays have long been a specialty of Egyptian tourism, at least along the coast. The country has a large number of establishments (generally high-end) operating on this principle. These are usually clustered in tourist zones, sometimes remote, within seaside resorts. Most remain affordable as all-inclusive packages, but can be overpriced if you only book one or two nights, especially in season. Sharm el-Sheikh and Nuweiba in Sinai, as well as Safaga, El Gouna, and especially Hurghada on the other side, are among the main all-inclusive areas in the country.

Gay and Lesbian Travellers

While Egyptian law does not officially ban homosexuality, several Egyptians have nonetheless been convicted of "debauchery" in recent years, including eight men sentenced to three years in prison in 2014 for allegedly participating in a "gay marriage" ceremony on a Nile boat. In short, a certain level of discretion is essential.
