Overview

Tourist Sites and Areas

Euralille
This is the business district (France’s third-largest) built in the 1990s around the TGV station, featuring offices, shops, hotels, housing, and a large 8-hectare park (Parc Matisse).
Old Lille
In the northern part of the city, this picturesque and lively district—with its bars and restaurants, often cobbled streets—is home to many grand residences and private mansions dating from before the 19th century. It’s also where you’ll find the cathedral and the Old Stock Exchange.

Monuments and Architectural Landmarks

Notre-Dame de la Treille Cathedral
Built in the Neo-Gothic style, it is located in the Vieux-Lille district. Unlike many French cathedrals, it is relatively recent, as construction only began in 1856.
Lille Citadel
Designed in the 17th century for defensive purposes by Vauban, this vast military structure is well preserved. Beyond its monumental gates and buildings, you can also explore the surrounding woodlands perfect for walks, the Vauban Garden, a children's leisure park, and the Lille Zoo nestled at the foot of the Citadel.
Saint-Maurice Church
In Lille’s historic centre, this 14th-century Gothic church is notable for its original "hall-church" design, where the chancel and naves are of equal height.
Lille Town Hall
A striking architectural ensemble (dating from the 1920s) blending concrete, Art Deco, and traditional Flemish style. Its extension, the Lille Belfry, stands at 104 metres, the tallest in Europe, offering a stunning panoramic view of the city from the top.
Place du Général de Gaulle
Also known as Grand'Place. It is the heart of the city and a historic site that housed the market in the Middle Ages. It is surrounded by remarkable buildings, including the Théâtre du Nord, the Old Stock Exchange, and various buildings constructed between the 17th and 20th centuries. At its center, the Goddess Column commemorates the siege of Lille in 1792.
Paris Gate
It was built in the late 17th century as a triumphal arch to celebrate Louis XIV’s victories.
Old Stock Exchange
A stunning 17th-century building. Around a magnificent inner courtyard with arcades are 24 mansard-roofed houses that once served as trading places for merchants.
