I needed to find my hard drive to share this:

Photo 3: Selarón Staircase, Lapa, Rio de Janeiro

Wikipedia:

Selarón Staircase in Rio de Janeiro The Escadaria Selarón is an iconic staircase located between the Santa Teresa and Lapa neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was decorated by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón starting in 1990, who covered the steps with thousands of colorful tiles from over 60 countries.

Main features

Length: about 215 steps. Materials: multicolored ceramic mosaics and tiles. Origin of the tiles: donations from around the world, as well as creations by the artist.

And trust me, if you want to see it without crowds, you’ve gotta get up early! ;)

There are still about 24 hours left (until 11:59 PM this Monday, May 25, 2026) to submit your photos for the contest.

Photo No. 3

Sometimes in India, there are so many people that you can no longer see the steps of a staircase, like here at the Buddhist site of Ajanta in Maharashtra.

Hello! Quick, the vote!

3 Points: Envallis photo 1: Mua Cave, Vietnam. More for the memories it brings back (I loved the area) than for the photo quality (sorry, Mickael), which I think lacks a bit of contrast.

2 Points: Rouquine 38 photo 1: Lisbon. Here, it’s the opposite—it’s borderline off-topic since the staircase isn’t the focal point, but the composition is stunning. Just like Isabelle, as usual... She annoys me!!!

1 Point: Kate photo 1: Istanbul. Same here, borderline off-topic, but captured at such a beautiful moment.

Good evening,

Kate 1: 3 points Maybe a bit dark, but I really love the balanced, poetic human presence. And in the end, that gradation of grays and blacks works beautifully.

Solene 3: 2 points All ethereal blue, like a fresh dream.

And the third one, um, let's say

Ragamuffin 1: 1 point.

My vote for this month:

3 points: Sinforosa - Photo 3 - Naples - Palazzo Reale For the composition, the tile lines draw the eye toward this monumental staircase. Only regret: the upper part is a bit overexposed, and the windows are blown out.

2 points: Bluequark - Photo 3 - Paris - Place de l'Iena Great shot! I’d have liked the person slightly higher up the stairs. This photo would work well in black and white to soften the figures and the central color that draws the eye.

1 point: Solene40 - Photo 1 - Morocco - Chefchaouen I really love those blue colors!

I hesitated with Unamilanese Photo 1, Philippbrg Photo 2, Kate Photo 2, Bluequark Photo 2, Montagnard Photo 3

Hello

So for me

🙂🙂🙂 for Philippebrp1. And if I could’ve given 3 points, I would’ve done it 😛 🙂🙂 for Montagnard74 2, Rio. 🙂 for Tylassin 2, Poland

I really liked Raga’s first two photos too (especially the Stairway to Heaven in China), but I didn’t feel like voting for the person who organized the contest😉

3 points: UnaMilanese 1 - Rome 2 points: Pagaljavab 1 - Dakar 1 point: Sinforosa 3 - Naples. Maybe it could’ve been slightly cropped to remove the chairs at the bottom left.

There are quite a few other photos I really like, but I don’t think they fit the theme enough.

I almost forgot... No time to elaborate, but here we go:

Philippebrg, photo 1, 3 points for the originality of that strange staircase that leads (almost) nowhere...

Bluequark, photo 2, 2 points for that low-angle shot of a magnificent snail.

Rouquine38, photo 2, 1 point for perfect symmetry in blue attire.

I really liked Montagnard’s cheerful photo 3 and Attila’s photo 1 where every character is positioned just right. There were others too—overall, some great entries.

The keys to the June 2026 contest are now in Philippebrg’s hands

Great choice for the theme and organization

Congrats Philippe on first place! If I’m not mistaken, this is your third time participating—what a well-deserved win!

Thanks to Raga for the contest. In the end, the theme really inspired everyone, and the victory fits it perfectly! !

Hello,

Thanks to everyone for liking my stairs at the top of Doi Tapang, and well done to all!

I’d like to take this opportunity to promote this fantastic spot—Doi Tapang—in my somewhat overlooked province of Chumphon. It’s a viewpoint that’s absolutely worth visiting. I’d even rank it in the top 3 viewpoints in Thailand (of the ones I’ve seen). It offers an exceptional 360-degree view of the Chumphon and Ranong mountain/hill range. It’s only accessible by 4x4 with the help of locals. The best time to go is at sunrise. It’s not uncommon to have the place all to yourself...

Anyway, I’m thinking about a theme for June, but I might already have a little idea...
