Wow, 9 all at once! Thanks for these contributions. I do hope you didn’t spend your whole trip just looking at manhole covers, though 😛

Hey Stéphane,

The zero point in the old town of Tallinn, Town Hall Square, which also serves as a manhole cover. Thanks to you, I’m making discoveries—I’d even forgotten I’d taken this ‘thing’ in a photo 😛.

Hi there.

As promised, I’m laying a few tiles on the table to revive this...

I didn’t think anyone else would ever be interested, so I’m happy to share them with you.

These are the different designs you can find in Santiago de Compostela.

See you around, maybe.

Hi there,

Here’s a surprising use—and a second, very unexpected purpose—for a recycled commemorative plaque turned into a manhole cover! The "manhole cover" is in the Andravoahangy market, located northeast of Antananarivo (Madagascar). No comment.....

Hi there! 🙂

Are you sure it's a sewer cover and not a commemorative plaque that was intentionally placed here originally?

Good evening.

If this plate is on the ground and not on the town hall wall, it’s a misuse.

As for claiming it’s a manhole cover...?

Good evening,

The city hall of Tana was never located in this very popular neighborhood of the capital..... Also, it's worth knowing that this plaque is fitted alongside others made of raw cement that cover a drainage canal.... Another thing to know is that in this country, there are no longer any cast-iron sewer covers because the ones that existed during the colonial era were all stolen to be melted down... This photographed plaque was used in this way, but it’s a reflection of many other moments that have disappeared for reasons that don’t need to be explained in this forum or this topic in particular... There you go

Hey Stef,

I just got back from Barcelona and, as promised, I thought of you (not just for the manhole covers but also for Barça and its stadium ;)) Here’s my little contribution :)

For the last two, I’m not sure if they’re manhole covers or access points for technical conduits (electricity, gas, water, etc.)

Yeah, I had retouched it to try to remove the reflections from the water. Because in Bergen, it rains. A lot. On average, about half the year. There's a story that goes around in Norway: In Bergen, a tourist asks a child: "-Tell me, does it ever stop raining in this city? - I don't know, I'm only 8 years old," the kid replies.

Just goes to show that Marseille isn't the only place with "exaggerated" stories!

Here's the clearer photo again:

Cute little anecdote 🙂 In Belgium, there's apparently a saying: "If it's not raining, it's because it has rained or it's about to rain." From what I could verify on the spot, it's barely an exaggeration... 😛
