Si tu es chez free pour la box tu peux utiliser le protocol SIP. Il suffit d'une connexion wifi (ou 3g), ça va ce connecter sur ta box en France et tu pourras téléphoner comme si tu étais en France, donc si tu as les appels gratuits depuis la France vers les fixes et mobiles aux USA c'est tout bon.

Je l'étais pendant plus de 10 ans, mais comme FREE a été incapable de mon proposer une connexion Fibre alors que dans mon immeuble il y avait SFR et Orange, je suis parti chez SFR...
Il ne me reste donc qu'un forfait 2 euros chez FREE.
Même si vous avez du "wifi" à votre hôtel, il faut s'assurer que c'est de la "haute vitesse", sinon si c'est la "basse vitesse", oubliez Skype et cie, la communication ne sera jamais bonne avec beaucoup de coupures. Parfois impossible d'accéder à ces communications.
Pour mes déplacements et réservations, j'utilise un portable acheté à 10 $ n'importe où Walmart, mais aussi dans les stations service ou tout magasin à grande surface.
J'arrive d'un voyage d'un mois aux Etats-Unis et j'en ai fait l'utilisation à travers 8 états américains pour mes réservations. A la différence de vous en France, je pouvais communiquer gratuitement au Canada avec ce téléphone.
Mais comme rien n'est parfait, j'ai toujours avec moi mon téléphone personnel dans le cas où.
en cas d'urgence, les $$$ ne comptent plus.

Je l'utilise sur un compte Free à Domicile et chez des parents en France . ça demande très peu de débit genre 64 kbit/s . Je n'ai pas testé à l'étranger.
Je me connecte à mon réseau wifi ou celui d'un parent pour téléphoner à des fixes ou portables . Je n'ai pas testé dans la rue de passer par FreeWifi ou FreeWifi_secure .
Quelques rares fois mon correspondant me dit que le son est mauvais.
A domicile je n'utilise plus mon téléphone DECT. Tant mieux car la synchro du carnet d'adresses quelle galère .
Il semble que ce soit une très bonne appli appréciées pas seulement en France mais aussi à l'étranger au point qu'elle est reprise comme base par d'autre applications .
Elle est bien intégrée à android : quand on appelle à partir de l'appli de téléphone par défaut du constructeur le choix est offert de passer soit par csipsimple soit par le gsm.
L'installation est simple car disposant d'assistant de configuration pour de nombreux fournisseurs français et étranger. Tout est préréglé (codec , fréquence etc.)pour chaque fournisseur . on a juste à fournir identifiant et mot de passe .
Il est possible de demander à l'appli d'être en route uniquement quand le wifi est en route .
Mon portable est chez Free avec opération groupée internet. J'ai donc un abonnement de 2 H gratuit et j'ai fait activer l'option monde et déposé de l'argent sur le compte. Je n'ai jamais eu de problèmes que ce soit à NY ou en Californie en 2014. Le seul problème en Californie était le code à taper avant le n°. La réception était excellente et j'appelais mon mari resté en France matin et soir. Je ne vois pas où est le problème avec Free.

Reste à voir la qualité ( la vitesse) des connexions Data. J'ai un ami qui utilisé Free cet été au Portugal et en Espagne et il était même pas en Edge, les trois quarts du temps en GPRS !
Espagne, Maroc, Italie, Afrique du Sud, Tanzanie, Egypte, Allemagne, Autriche, Angleterre, Ecosse, Japon et Etats-Unis plein de fois...et çà continue !
De mon coté cet été très bonne connexion 3G avec Free à Copenhague et en Catalogne. En Espagne, aux Etats-Unis ou ailleurs tu est forcément dépendant du réseau.

Suite à la lecture de ce post, j'avais opté avant mon départ pour les US un forfait Free "Voyage" (si je me souviens bien du nom du forfait) en tous cas celui qui inclus les US, et malheureusement, depuis mon arrivée à Washington DC pas moyen d'obtenir une connexion à quelque réseau que ce soit... ça fait maintenant trois jours, et je vais finir par contacter Free, en espérant que ce soit possible par email vu que par téléphone, ben ça passe pas... 🤪 😕

A Washington DC j'ai tenté de me connecter manuellement aux réseaux disponibles (la connexion automatique ne fonctionnant pas) et même avec AT&T, sans succès... 🤪 😕

Mais de le répéter n'a peut-être pas fait de mal, car probablement d'autres avaient comme moi lu cette file en diagonale.
Et cette info doit intéresser beaucoup de gens sur ce forum !
J'ajoute que ces derniers mois, j'ai utilisé mon téléphone (et les data) depuis une dizaine de pays Européens. Et cela marche très bien. C'est effectivement gratuit, yc les datas (qui c'est vrai sont souvent à assez faible débit à l'étranger).
Un grand intérêt selon moi est alors d'utiliser comme GPS routier MAPS de Google (qui nécessite d'être connecté en permanence). Il est en effet beaucoup plus précis que tous les autres pour ce qui concerne les embarras de la circulation en temps réel, et donc le temps de trajet EXACT restant à effectuer ; c'est très utile dans les zones très urbanisées et encombrées (j'espère qu'aux US, il en est de même).
Au point de vue facturation, avec le forfait à 15.99€, c'est effectivement gratuit. Sur le décompte mensuel on a bien la trace des communications passées ou reçues (ou data) depuis l'étranger, mais elles sont gratuites. Il est aussi précisé pour chaque pays le nombre de jours restant encore gratuits dans l'année (sur les 35 jours autorisés par pays).
Aussi dans le cas où on prévoit qu'on risque de rester plus de 35 jours/an dans un pays (pour moi cette année la Grèce, ce sera souvent les USA dans le futur), je conseille de bloquer les datas quand on n'en a pas besoin. Ainsi, si on ne téléphone pas ou n'est pas appelé de la journée, elle ne compte pas sur les 35 (si on laisse les datas ouvertes, il passe toujours qque chose, et la journée est retenue).

Non, désolé. Je pense (à faire confirmer) que le "pass destination" de FREE ne fonctionne qu'avec le forfait (15.99 ou 19.99€/mois)

Ca tombe pil poil j'ai acheter un forfait free il y a 1 mois a 3,99 € illimité pendant 1 an , sur venteprive.com et il y a 15 jours venteprive.com proposait la freebox a 1,99 € j'étais chez SFR du coup j'ai pris la freebox a 1,99 € par mois pendant 1 an cela me fait 300 € d'économie. Je l'ai reçut 1 semaine après et le branchement en 5 mn.
120 € de tel USA FRANCE , Il y a 2 ans , J'ai voulu enlever 600 $ dans un distributeur a Las Vegas avec ma carte Master Gold de chez Carrefour . Ils ont bloqué ma carte. Je tel a ma banque Carrefour et il ne veulent rien savoir. j'ai tel a mastercard international aux USA et ce sont eux qui ont forcé carrefour banque a me dépanner de 300$ et j'ai du appeler carrefour banque des usa pendant plusieurs jours et nuits 30 coups de fil ,6h30 en tout pour qu'il me renvoie une carte et la Galère . Rien a faire il a fallu que je les menace.. Jétais bloqué a Las Vegas avec 15 $ en poche . Il ont mis 3 jours pour m'envoyer 1500 $ par Western Union pour que je puisse, continuer, mon voyage . Cette Banque est à éviter comme la peste. Cela ma couter 120 € de tel qui n'ont jamais voulu rembourse.

L'accès par Wifi est une chose, l'accès par un réseau téléphonique (s'il y en a un que tu captes) en est une autre, et ça n'a rien à voir.
Le roaming (ou l'itinérance) est la possibilité que tu as de pouvoir utiliser un réseau qui n'est pas ton réseau de base (ici, Free). C'est en particulier le cas à l'étranger.

Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
