Nous nous dirigeons doucement vers Escalante pour la réunion au sommet du 31.
L'avant dernière nuit nous avons dormi à Alstrom Point au milieu de bourasques qui parfois dépassaient les 100km/h 🤪.
La Cottonwood Canyon Road est effectivement très belle (la piste est en parfait état).
L'arrivée à Tropic était hier soir un peu frisquette et nous nous sommes installés au Bryce Canyon Inn (très très bien malgré les mauvais commentaires sur le net et sur le routard 🤪).
Ce matin avant de me réveiller, le Grand est allé voir la température sur le tableau de bord de la voiture : 34° F ! Bon OK, je n'ai pas le droit de râler, dans la chambre il fait chaud et dans la salle de bain, j'ai lancé le petit radiateur électrique d'appoint ! Quand je pense à ma p'tite Lolo qui normalement devait dormir cette nuit dans le wilderness à moins de 50 miles d'ici !

Quel sale temps franchement! Comme je disais dans un autre topic, 13° en ce moment à Las Vegas, même au petit matin, ça craint 🤪, normalement il y fait si chaud! J'ai regardé sur un site météo US, il fait 7° à 8°C en dessous des normales saisonnières... Tout l'inverse de chez nous en France depuis début avril... Surtout dans le Noooooord 😉
Moi je me résous à abandonner Tioga Pass le 18 juin et à faire un détour pour rejoindre Lake Tahoe et à abandonner plusieurs points de Crater Lake 🙁.

Oui vraiment le temps ne nous est pas favorable. Il est 10 heures du mat et on n'arrive pas à se décider à quitter la chaleur de la chambre d'hôtel 🤪
Du coup on est allé surfer sur le site Farabee (les loueurs de gros 4X4 dans la Death Valley pour aller à Race Trak). Et là... Leurs dates de fermeture ont changé. L'an dernier ils fermaient en juillet et août. Cette année ils ont fermé depuis le 15 mai 😕.
J'en ai vraiment gros sur le coeur...
Golden Cathedral - à l'eau... de l'Escalante
Cathedral Valley - on n'ira pas. Il fait trop froid
Grand Falls - c'est raté
Alstrom Point - j'y ai crevé de trouille à cause de la tempête

Ouaaaaiiiiiis ... et leur date d'ouverture aussi, annoncé il y a quelques mois au Labor day ( 4 septembre) ils ont finalement décidé d'ouvrir au 15 septembre, me foutant mon planning par terre puisque j'avais prévu de leur louer un jeep le 9 septembre ... 🤪🤪
Que dire pour te remonter le moral ... ah si, relis la maxime que tu as noté en pieds de page "l'histoire avec le succès et les obstacles".
Les sites sont une chose, mais il y a aussi le plaisir d'avoir été là-bas, à deux, pendant 74 jours, enfin je dis à deux .... au début car là votre agenda mondain semble bien rempli, de rencontre en Margarita avec les uns et les autres, je trouve ça génial, se retrouver ainsi à l'autre bout de la planète ... magique.😎
Certes il y a eu la météo mais pas de galère comme on peut le lire dans certains carnets. Pour le froid, si vous changiez votre fusil d'épaule et dormez dans des motels, il ne reste plus qu'à se couvrir la journée.
Pour Cathedral Valley pourquoi ne veux-tu pas le faire en une journée ?.
Golden Cathedral n'était de toute façon qu'à moitié raisonnable et si tu ne savais pas que ça existe tu ne serais pas que tu as manqué quelque chose 😉 bon ok c'est tiré par les cheveux mais c'est comme cela que j'ai "digéré" le fait de ne pas pouvoir aller à The Wave !.😕
Après il y a aussi la durée qui génère peut-être de la fatigue, tu sais on en avait parlé, qu'une telle durée ne s'appréhende pas comme un séjour de 2 ou 3 semaines.
Après tu peux faire confiance à ton cerveau et ton optimisme pour faire le trie, il restera les bons souvenirs et les mauvais se transformerons en anecdotes
Je viens de récupérer les enfants (enfin de + de 50 ans), tout bronzés et contents d'avoir mis les "bouts" Las Vegas - Los Angeles -Hawaï, ainsi que Maui et le Kilauea, parc national tout de même.
JeF : c'est un peu de l'optimisme à outrance quand même, comme le mec qui se fait arracher un bras et qui dit " chouette, c'est le gauche et je suis droitier " !!! 😛
Des dizaines de jours à ne pas pouvoir faire ce qu'on veut à cause de la météo, certes ce n'est pas mortel mais c'est bien lourdingue ! 😉
c'est gentil d'essayer de me remonter le moral, mais aujourd'hui ca va être difficile d'y arriver même si j'ai souri en lisant ton message.
Comme dit Tigrou c'est lourdingue ce temps et nous on n'a pas pu mettre les bouts et se tirer à Hawaï, d'autant plus qu'on n'y a pas pensé une seconde Hawaï n'étant pas dans les destinations qui nous font rêver.

On vous laisse à votre film du soir puisqu'il est près de 20 heures chez vous, on retourne faire un petit tour sur la Cottonwood, histoire de faire quelques photos, hier avec le vent c'était impossible 🤪
On est sur le point de "boucler les valises et de rentrer à Paris". Espérons que Candyland va nous réconcilier avec ici.

Je comprends ta déception... Quelques jours de mauvais temps ça passe, mais presque 2 mois de quasi mauvais temps continu 🤪, je comprends que tu en aies ras la casquette.
Mais profitez quand même!!! A fond!! Ici il fait beau et chaud mais nous n'avons pas les grands espaces.
Essaye de te remonter le moral en comptabilisant les visites et rencontres que tu as pu faire et que tu vas encore pouvoir faire ... et pas ce qui a été raté ...

N'allez pas camper à Cathedral Valley si il fait si froid... Mais ça n'empêche pas d'y aller pour passer une journée à faire la boucle.
(Moi non plus, je n'ai pas prévu d'aller dormir là-bas... mais ns allons faire la boucle sur une journée... Et même si je sais que l'idéal aurait été d'aller camper là-bas pour profiter des belles couleurs de fin et début de journée, je me réjouis qd même d'y aller... En fait, il faut se dire que la plupart des touristes n'y campent pas et se contentent de faire le tour sur une journée... et ils reviennent enchantés de cette journée😉)

Au fait, je viens de re-regarder votre planning, vous n'avez pas passé beaucoup de temps à Moab ?, pourtant il y a pleins de choses à faire à partir de cette ville. En fait c'est mon "coin" préféré, regarde Le Spartiate y a tenu 1 mois sur un VTT 😎. Ok il y a aussi de vent mais il y fait globalement beau.
En chemin vous pouvez vous arrêter à Torrey pour faire Cathedral Valley, puis les Goblins
Max essaie de relever le moral des troupes 😉, ne lui casse pas la baraque 😛 😎. Mais il a raison: il ne reste après que les bons côtés d'un voyage. Par exemple je suis toujours (😕) sur le carnet de Patagonie, au 25e jour, et je me rends compte qu'on a eu trrrrès peu de beau temps pour le moment... Mais quelques mois plus tard, il ne reste que des bons souvenirs, et même sous la pluie – et la neige, et le VENT des 40e Rugissants et des 50e Hurlants– il faut croire qu'on arrive à en trouver 🙂 🙂.
Question de caractère. 5 ans après, notre second voyage en Thailande, lors de la .... " green season" puisque c'est ainsi qu'est très astucieusement nommé la saison des pluie, fut très moyen à cause de la pluie et des hordes de pignoufs. Le fait que nous soyons allés à Krabi, Kho Phi phi et Phuket n'y change rien. Il a été moyen et il l'est toujours ... 🙂

même si je reste "silencieuse" je suis de très près votre périple bien malmené par cette fichue météo 😠😠.Croyez moi je compatis un maximum avec vous car j'imagine très facilement ma propre déception si j'étais à votre place . 2 mois de météo défavorable moi aussi j'aurais le moral ras les chaussettes ( la droite et la gauche 😉)
Allez on va essayer de te faire sourire un peu .... perso j'y vois un avantage et un gros puisque le mauvais temps vous suit vous allez le ramener en France et c'est génial pour 2 raisons :1°) on a besoin de pluie ++++ et 2°) pour nous qui allons arriver quand vous serez rentrés ben.... on aura soleil 😏.
Allez courage vous allez peut être bien avoir un peu de chaleur sur la fin de votre périple 😎😎 le Death valley arrive et vous allez bien y trouver des températures confortables ?

Mais vu la tournure des choses, je lorgne un peu vers Bisti's pour rester plus au Sud.

Regarde ce blog (presqu' en live)avec des photos du beau Yellowstone sous son manteau de neige.... C'est super beau... malgré le froid, ça donne qd même très envie 😎
Et pour peu que le soleil fasse son apparition les prochains jours et que les températures remontent, ça serait magnifique de voir cette région encore enneigée

Effectivement Yellowstone sous la neige cela a son charme et ils semblent ne pas regretter leur passage.
Mais pour ma part, je voudrais profiter en plein de Jackson Hole et de Yellowstone, sans restrictions.
Donc on reporte et nous le ferons la prochaine fois.
Voilà, demain levée à 5h00, petit déj. et en route pour l'aéroport, les valises sont bouclées et l'attente commence a peser, les heures sont longues aujourd'hui.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. I had planned a trip to Colorado in 2021 but canceled due to COVID, so with time passing and my eldest’s high school graduation approaching fast, I figured it was now or never!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
