Recommendations for a local agency for a tour in Senegal?

The tours offered by tour operators in France don't work for me, except for TUI—its 15-day itinerary is great but too expensive for my budget. I’m planning to travel with my sister in March or April 2025 and would love to find a local agency that offers tours, even in small groups. Thanks for your suggestions! Tanya6675

Hi there, What are your plans for Senegal? Lots of moving around or settling somewhere and exploring the area? I don’t know the country super well, but for the two weeks I spent there, based in Saly (so original [;)]), it was really easy to arrange visits with guides either found on the street or at the beach by negotiating a bit. No need for an agency for that (for example, if you're thinking of a week on the coast and a week elsewhere).

Other places are just doable by taxi, RER, or boat, like for Dakar and Gorée.

However, if you want to go deeper into the country, you’ll definitely need a bit more support, especially for the language. I don’t have any tips for that, but I’m sure other forum members will.

Sorry I can’t help more!

Hi Din, Thanks for your kind message. Actually, we’re already doing a one-week tour in a small group. So we’d just like to do a short tour in Casamance and stay 3 days in Dakar. Are you from Rwanda? My niece just got back from there and she loved the country. I love your photo, it’s really beautiful. Keep up the good work. Any

Thanks for the comment on the photo. Regarding Casamance, I won’t be able to help you, but I don’t think it’s hard to find a local agency. Unfortunately, I don’t have any to recommend.

I’ve been living in Rwanda for over 10 years, but I’m not Rwandan. Maybe one day.

It’s definitely a country worth discovering—and really charming.

I’ve already visited Senegal—if you want, I can give you the contact of someone who can show you the best spots in the country.

Thanks for your reply. That’s really nice of you. In the meantime, though, the Casamance tourist office put me in touch with a guide, and I’m waiting for his quote. Have a great day. Best, Tanya

You don’t have to go through an agency. I stayed there for 50 days with my sister. We organized our trip entirely on our own, even once we were there. We improvised everything—no problem at all.

Hello,

Tourism in Senegal isn’t structured the way you might imagine. You haven’t seen many circuit proposals, and the only ones I know of start from mass-tourism-style hotels—far from the authentic Senegal. The best option is to have a guide you can share your wishes with. Comfortable tourism, roots-style trips, or discovering the real Senegal, etc. Tourist hotels offer activities, but in my opinion, very few are authentic, and we end up with a mass-tourism setup (even if the term doesn’t quite apply to Senegal since tourism is struggling).

In this context, for an authentic Senegal experience, I suggest calling via WhatsApp at +221 76 497 18 75. You’ll get a friendly guide who won’t feed you nonsense. You can tell him if you’re looking for roots-style or something more comfortable, etc. I’ve lived in Senegal and still have family there. Nothing saddens me more than visitors missing out on the real Senegal because they fall into the "hotel circuit" system when there’s so much to do outside that setup—this country is so welcoming.

Best regards,
