Hi there, I spent 25 days in October 2023 in Madagascar on a motorcycle, solo. Covered 3,000 km with no prior planning. And with no real motorcycle experience. However, it’s crucial to find a reliable person for motorcycle rental. Mine wasn’t extremely well-maintained, and I had quite a few issues. Here’s an overview of the itinerary, including descending the Tsiribihina River by pirogue, the Tsingy, heading down to Tuléar, and back up the RN7 (Isalo, Tsarasoa Valley, Lake Sahambavy, etc.).

It was an incredible life and travel experience. A fabulous country, breathtaking landscapes, and a smiling population despite the hardships of life.

If I can answer any questions, don’t hesitate!

Hey! I’ve done the Madagascar motorcycle tour a few times—Diego, Fort Dauphin, east coast, west coast. Except for the spots where the bike couldn’t go, so I had to put it on a boat.

I saw you went through Tulear and Morondava on your route. I’d love to hear how it went by motorcycle, because I did it by pirogue and sand isn’t really my thing!

If you could share some details, I’d love to do it someday.

Hello,

From Tulear to Manja, it's a newly paved road—the best in all of Mada. From Manja to Morondava, I did it by 4x4 with the motorcycle on the roof. Impossible for me to do it solo, with the sand and the huge river crossings. And only 'doable' at the end of the rainy season. Otherwise, you have to go via the coast, which means you need to be really good at handling sand.
