Buying a bike in Cambodia

Hi everyone,
We’re planning a trip to Cambodia from November 30 to December 21, 2025.
We haven’t decided yet whether we’ll land in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.
We’re thinking of covering between 800 and 1,000 km by bike, but we’d rather not bring our trusty rides all that way.
Has anyone here already tried buying bikes locally? Do you know if it’s easy to pick one up once we’re there?
We’d love to hear about your experiences and any tips you might have.
Thanks so much, everyone!
We went there in 2019—such a great memory! It’s a really pleasant country to explore by bike. The terrain is flat, and people respect those who take it slow. There are all kinds of vehicles that don’t go much faster than we did on our bikes.
We hesitated about bringing our own bikes. You can find fairly new bikes at European prices or local bikes for a few dozen dollars, but we weren’t sure about their durability. In the end, we brought ours on the plane.
The distances between towns/villages are pretty long—around 80–100 km—so the stages were quite long for us since we stayed in hotels. It’s best to have a bike that can handle the road well.
It all depends on what kind of accommodation you’re looking for.
Wishing you a great trip!

Hi Phil, I agree with the reply already sent. It's best to have your own bike because you have to cover quite a few kilometers for accommodation, and it's hot. We were doing between 80 and 100 km a day. An amazing country, very poor. Wonderful people. Have a great trip. Andre
