Entrance gate to the Couriot pit. Mining Museum of Saint-Étienne. The visit is totally worth it. You travel back in time, seeing the working conditions of men and horses...

If the rest of the station is anything to go by, Maputo station must be really pretty!

Beautiful and deserted—a station just how I like them (it leans a bit, but that’s just its age ). This station is regularly listed among the most beautiful in the world.

Unrelated, but I just realized I’d seen your winning September photo but never mentioned it. I noticed all the votes it got were from women. Now I feel reassured.

I hadn’t paid attention to that... maybe it’s just a coincidence 😉

When I went to Dublin a long time ago, I didn’t have a camera... luckily others did! the proof

On the other hand, when I went to Greece this winter (for me), I had one and even found a quick method for taking photos.

This facade is hilarious 😏 ... where in Greece is it?

More door photos from Funchal

And a special one for Montagnard74 😉 (gotta keep up your reputation, Bruno! 😏)

Pyrgos on the island of Santorini (they're souvenir magnets)

Here, near Perth, a hidden door

The limits of checking VF on the iPhone! I got caught out too.

Okay, I’ll take that, it’s fair game. 🤪

Oh yeah, the doors of Funchal... a must-see, except even after searching through my Madeira photos, I didn’t take a single one 😅🚪

And it’s the same for pretty much all my recent trips—I didn’t take any classic door photos 😩

The bell tower exit door is a bit narrow in Madaba (Jordan)

MU Muriel18 Globetrotter ·
Of course, if you're surrounded by nature and animals, there are pretty few doors 😏 😏 😏

Pfft! Easy for you, Muriel, but I don’t just go to nature with animals—except I don’t take photos of doors... doesn’t speak to me 😅

Still in Jordan, here’s what’s left of the Gate of Hercules at the Amman Citadel

RO Rouquine38 Globetrotter ·
To continue with Jordan, the door of the Qasr al Kharana fortress castle in the desert

So Bruno, do doors inspire you?

Still in Jordan, the well-guarded entrance gate (or Hadrian’s Arch) in Jerash

This door photo is gorgeous 😊 Actually, I chose this theme because I realized I often photograph doors (as for why... 🤪)

One last little one from Jordan, at Little Petra: doors carved into the rock.

MU Muriel18 Globetrotter ·
Our messages crossed— I was talking about the previous photo 😉

You're right, Muriel—it's best to choose a theme that matches what we photograph so we feel more comfortable and have plenty to discuss 😊. It also pushes others out of their comfort zone 😄.

It's called the SOUTH GATE and it's presented more ...

Wonderful. I'm absolutely thrilled...

This station is regularly cited among the most beautiful in the world.

Maputo Station, a true architectural gem nestled in the heart of Mozambique’s capital, embodies not only the rich and tumultuous history of the region but also serves as a vital hub for travelers exploring the wonders of Southern Africa. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, this station is so much more than just a departure or arrival point—it’s a living work of art, seamlessly blending colonial style with local influences. As you wander through its vast halls and admire its exquisite architectural details, you can almost hear the echoes of the footsteps of travelers who came before you.
