An idea to mull over: heading to Oman at the start of the year (January, February). A car for freedom, bivouacs, hostels, desert, mountains, hiking, walks... For two, three, or four—depending on who’s in. Who’s tempted? Have a great week, and more, to everyone!

Hello, I’m interested in your post about Oman, but I can’t seem to get my replies to publish. So I’ll keep this one simple. Best, Georges Sintés

Hi there Just wanted to let you know that from February 17 to March 19 it’s Ramadan
LO Loane1 ·
Hi Martine, This is a rare one—someone actually wants to go to Oman, and I’m not available. I’ll be in Colombia until February 7th, then off to Panama for a month. I live in Bordeaux—where do you live? Maybe we could make it work for another trip.

Hello,

I’m planning to visit Oman after Ramadan, from March 19 to April 8, and then I’ll head to Turkey. I’d love to share this trip with 1 or 2 people—renting a car, etc. I’m 76 years old and travel around the world. I’ve just returned from Cape Verde, where I did some great hikes and the (challenging) ascent of Fogo volcano. Have you already left? Best,

Patrice

Glad to hear that Fogo is tough—I also climbed Pico do Fogo the same day. I had no idea what to expect difficulty-wise. For me, it was less challenging than the sacred mountains in China, where you’ve got thousands of steps. Wishing you some amazing travels!

Hi Martine, how’s your trip going—have you left yet? I’m planning to head to the desert. I’ll be leaving on February 10th. I’m a 70-year-old guy from the Périgord region, in good shape. Traveling light—backpack or bike. Need to rent a vehicle, though.

We can chat about it—"jpdjpierre@gmail.com". Otherwise, have a great trip! JPierre

Yes Patrice, I’m there with a travel companion. We’re heading south today and wrapping up at the end of the month. Have a good prep! It’s a country full of facets and surprises. Martine

We went there by 4x4 from Bidaya with our own camping gear. Good preparation!

Hi there, Thanks for your reply! Who did you rent your car from? Have a great rest of your trip! How long did you stay, by the way? Cheers,

Patrice

Hi Martine, thanks for your reply. There are three people leaving with two 4x4s, and I need to take one 4x4? Alone to do the trip with them. Send me a message to motivate me on WhatsApp +33608058158. Enjoy and take care, JPierre

Hi Patrice, I replied to Martine and I’m interested in going to Oman. When are you leaving? How’s your trip planning going? If you’d like to chat about it, I’m available. Have a good evening, JPierre

hi there,

I’m planning to leave after Ramadan on March 19 until April 8 (from there I’m heading to Turkey to meet up with friends), but I’m waiting to book my flight ticket because if Trump starts bombing in the area, things could get heated. Are you leaving earlier?? I want to rent a car, but a lot of rental companies won’t rent to older travelers (I’m 76 but I travel like a young person). Haha Cheers,

Patrice

Hi there, thanks for your reply! Yes, I had the option to leave on February 10th. I didn’t take the ticket, which was 650 € for that date. I’m looking for a partner (M or F) to share the 4x4, which costs 1,050 € for a month—not necessarily a 4x4 enthusiast, just someone with a simple desire to explore the desert! Have a great day, JPierre

hi,

Your ticket seems really expensive! With Pegasus from Lyon via Istanbul, the one-way is 218.52 € including checked luggage on March 19. I don’t know about the return since I’m coming back through Turkey (but Sivas to Lyon via Istanbul is 213 €). Otherwise, our dates don’t match—I’m only in Oman until April 8. I’m meeting friends in Cappadocia and flying back to France on April 20. These dates are the cheapest for flights. Have a great day!

Were you able to take this trip? We got back before the events. It was a wonderful discovery.

Were you able to take this trip? I got back in early February and had no idea what was brewing. What a shame for such a beautiful and welcoming country. Have a great evening.
