One or More Towers: December Photo Contest

I suggest we compete with photos of towers. No magic tricks or potter’s wheels—we’re talking about "tour" as in the feminine noun. So, a kind of tall building, round, square, or polygonal, or a high structure that could be metallic, or a flat-topped bell tower (campanile), or a high-rise building (building)... You can find them almost everywhere in the world and from all eras. The tower(s) must be the main subject of the photo. Examples: The first photo, which is Saint Mark’s Square (with the Campanile), won’t be accepted. The second one, where the Campanile tower is the main subject, will be accepted.

Have fun and surprise us! Photos of computer towers are excluded 😏

I forgot the practical details! Photos can be posted until Wednesday, December 24th at midnight, following the usual rules: one per message, numbered from 1 to 3, with the location where the photo was taken and, if you'd like, a few notes.

Voting, where you explicitly assign 3 to 1 points to your 3 favorite photos, will take place from Thursday the 25th at midnight and one minute until Wednesday the 31st at midnight. Results will be published on January 1st if possible ;).

It's up to you ;)

Hi,

my photo no.3 (scanned): the minaret (with its pyramidal shape) of the Sankoré Mosque (built from earth, straw, and palm wood), one of the three great mosques of Timbuktu (Mali). It’s one of the architectural gems of the Sudano-Sahelian style in West Africa; all three mosques are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites...

Let’s stay in Shanghai and cross the Huangpu River to reach the "new" district of Pudong, where towers have sprouted like mushrooms since the 1990s.

The Jin Mao Tower (420 meters tall), whose most impressive feature is definitely the Grand Hyatt Hotel’s atrium, rising over thirty floors.

Hi everyone,

Phew, not very many entries, but almost all of them are stunning—so much postcard-perfect beauty! That made voting pretty tough. In the end, here’s how I decided:

3 points: Attila no.1 (Italy)

2 points: Poste42 no.2 (Greece)

1 point: Envallis no.3 (United States)

Happy holidays to all!

Hello

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! 🙂

Alright, here we go:

🙂🙂🙂 Rouquine38 – 3 London. Stone and glass, old and new 🙂🙂 Montagnard74 – 1 India. The leaning tower that isn’t leaning… or is it? Maybe it’s just the photographer 🙂🙂 Attila3 – Denmark. The lighthouse rising from the sand (I hesitated with the other one, the bell tower rising from the water)

Thanks for the slideshow, but you’ve got two photos labeled Rouquine 38 2. The glass tower in London with a church in front is number 3. It’d be good to fix that—those photos are doing well in the votes…

It's my turn to vote! Photo 1: 3 points for Rouquine 3. Love at first sight (framing, lighting, juxtaposition of different-era architectures) for me, since I don’t know London. 2 points for xrctn 3 for the strangeness of that tower with those huge arms sticking out! 1 point for Ragamuffin 3: a graphic design you have to decipher to realize it’s the inside of a tower.
