During your travels in South America or the Maghreb countries, have you come across Michel Plumier? He's Belgian, worked in Algeria, and likely in South America as well. Thanks to anyone who might have news of him.
Looking for friends from the Amporaha camp in Nosy Be
by Lenosybeen
Translated into English.
Finally!!! I can share my joy... youthful memories rediscovered along with emotions!!!🙂 Thank you for your welcome and especially your comments!
"The Tahitian" has changed a lot 🤪—the kilos and the years... but still full of "pep"... and ready to party!!!
Looking forward to reading you all soon... Best wishes to everyone!😉
For info, I was in Ivato from June 1968 to September 1970, and Dad was a pilot on the "Skyraider" (he left us soon after😕). He was camp chief in Nosy Be in July 1970 and in 1969 if my memory serves me right...😇
Oh! Yay! M.Lou, there you are on the forum with such great energy—I’m so happy to read you. Through your words, my video-memory opens up, and the story of Nosy-Be plays back in my little head. Just imagine! Our memories are as vivid as yesterday in Nosy-Be, yes! Yes! Because to me, it *was* yesterday—I don’t count the time that’s passed, but the time I might have left. So quick! Quick! We need to preserve our memories, and all Nosybeans (men and women) should take part in Francis’s idea. In the end, as a bonus, I’ll make an amazing DVD of yesterday’s and today’s memories in video clips. I’m counting on you and everyone who’s already responded, YES!!!! The music of Nosy-Be from yesterday and what will live again tomorrow—a fantastic site with memory videos, so we can travel back to Madagascar’s past for a few minutes thanks to modern communication. Thank you. See you soon. Patrick Romé
You’re on fire, Patrick! Motivated like never before! Pure happiness...😏
See you soon!

Nosybéennes 😉, Nosybéens 😏, here are some photos that haven’t aged too well 🙁 but will bring back wonderful memories for us.😇 See you soon. Thanks to all of you. P. Romé😎
hi everyone! I’ve been away from the forum for a while… glad to see that the friends from Amporaha camp are still "alive and kicking"—that’s great! Just to relive the good old days that have passed… with the scent of ylang-ylang. Nostalgia, you’ve got us hooked…
I’m posting an old photo of the camp run by Mr. and Mrs. Emile from the 70s. jlou82

Hello Patrick,
Your photographs are stunning. Two of them really caught my eye: the ones of the Dakota and the Grise.
Could you get in touch with me at roumsalareunionNOSPA@Morange.fr (remove NOSPAM to get my email address)?
Thanks in advance.
Veloma,
Franck
Hello everyone. Here I am, registered with the former members of Amporaha. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Émile, brother of Francis, and yes, Stéphane Nefiolow!!!! It's me, Fredy. When I took a look at the site, I got chills. Check out page 6, image 0294—it’s like you’re saying hello to me. Page 6, image 132, look at my two sardines, that’s me around 2003. How we’ve changed!!! Check page 6, image 1969, I was there every time. I’m on a small atoll in French Polynesia, just like in Amporaha, but not on vacation. Passing through Tahiti, I’ll call you in 4 hours sharp. (Former Paris Firefighter) Warm regards to all.
Good evening everyone,
I was a bit absent for "grandpa duties with my 5 little rascals at the seaside"—they all got a serious sunburn (except me !😕) in Brittany!!!—and then came home with a nasty cold, but I'm feeling better now.
Here’s the latest on the families I’ve reconnected with and contacted:
Chamalet Jean 62-65, Gourves Jacques 68-69 (our young chimpanzee), Péron Alain 70-72, Troin (Mr. deceased) 68-70, Ogliotti Guy, Baudry Guy, Dumoucel, Dezetter Jim 68-70, Néfiolov Guy (deceased) 68-72, Cabon, Blanquet Emile 67-69, Demonin Guy 61-64. More to come in the next episode...
A big thank you to you, Franck.
Have a great evening, everyone, and see you soon—*véloma*...

Hi Francis,
Glad you were able to expand your list.
Now that your grandkids have left, if I understood correctly, it’s vacation time to relax before the upcoming trip...
veloma,
Franck
A shout-out to friends from the Amporaha camp forum... I hope this place is still as magical as the ylang-ylang scents were back in the 70s.... See the photo of Amporaha camp from the sky with Google Earth. Best, jlou82
Also found some great shots on Google Earth:
the Amporaha beach with its pass (like you’ve rarely seen it)
the Sacred Islet and its strip of white sand....
memories of evenings on the sand, fishing in canoes, diving, and meet-ups ........ sharks, sea turtles, and even a whale shark

Back in the day, there was a pretty typical dish at the camp—bat tastings... in daube sauce. It was quite surprising to eat the first time, but it was good... veloma vasa...jlou82😏

Thanks Christian for the photos.
See you soon,

Happy holidays, Francis! Give us some news from Madagascar and Nosy-Be, and some photos if you find a cybercafé . Plan a route for our next expedition to Nosy-Be. Warm childhood memories from Patrick, who lives on the happiness of reuniting with my childhood friends from Amporaha between 1967 and 1969. Thanks to everyone who responds and helps with research to find the people from Nosy-Be. Thanks to your site, Francis, I’m rediscovering memories a few years later and childhood friends—it’s pure happiness (thanks to M. Lou, who will recognize herself). The plans for clips and memory videos are still on. I’m ready to create "Nosy-Be: Yesterday and Today." Warm regards to all of you, known or unknown—we’re privileged to have lived the dream of our lives in Amporaha, and today, thanks to this site, we’re reuniting. See you soon. PRome.
Have a great trip, Francis, and so glad I got to see you at home before you left. Best wishes to the Amporha track that I loved so much... and to the coconut palm bays!!
I see that everyone who’s been to Nosy Be has been "marked" for life!
Pierre
Hello, I’m P. Rome. I met a family named Fabre in Tana between 1967 and 1969. It seems to me that Mr. Fabre was a Transport Pilot. Are you related to them? Yes! Nosy Be left a lasting impression on many people, especially during that time—it was a true paradise, a dream island with unforgettable ylang-ylang scents and wonderful vegetation. In short, a dream come true. Best regards, Patrick
Hi Francis,
So, did you make it to Nosy Be okay? Hope the weather’s nice...
Let us know how you’re doing.
Cheers,
Franck
good evening everyone,
Everything’s going great—it’s gorgeous weather every day—but I’m on the move a lot right now. I’m actually in Tana until Friday, round trip by road. I promise I’ll post some photos Monday or Tuesday.
Thanks to you all!
This is for someone who’ll recognize themselves: I ate sweet lemon—there’s some on the ground!
I’ll bring back Ratsimbazafy’s CD for those interested: *Le Lamba Blanc*, at Zoma, etc.
Unfortunately, I only have bad news, and it’s serious: a French woman was attacked at night and severely beaten, along with three guards, one of whom died...
Yes, Madagascar is changing—for better and for worse... something to think about for those who refuse to acknowledge reality without being paranoid!
See you soon, with the promised photos.
Francis

I’d love to get news about a Norwegian couple, Werner and Marianne Loslie, who traveled the world on foot for 23 years with their three donkeys and five dogs. Maybe they have a website or wrote a book about their journey.
Hi there,
I traveled to Chile several years ago. I met a family who lived in a suburb of Santiago, Chile. Finding this family again would be a great joy. So I’m reaching out to the French-speaking community there for help. Feel free to contact me privately, and I’ll provide all the details I have.

Hello,
I’m looking for Richard Sibanga (Masule), who is of Namibian origin. He lives in Windhoek and is likely a high school teacher.
He earned a master’s degree in geography from the Sorbonne and Paris 10 (Nanterre) in France around 1996 and 1997.
I’d be incredibly grateful if anyone with news of him could contact me as soon as possible, since I haven’t heard from him since 2010.
Hello fellow VFers,
A long time ago, a great group of young backpackers, mostly from Quebec. We met during a trip to Crete (Greece). More specifically at a youth hostel in Mirthios.
Anyway, we celebrated Christmas. There was a Quebec flag on the wall. We even wrote our names on a sheet with some drawings.
Just for fun, what have you all been up to? Are you VFers?
I was the backpacker on a bike (cycle tourist).
Cheers, 🙂

Hello,
I’m looking for a friend, Arnaud DEVIS, who’s 44 years old. We haven’t heard from him since July 5th. He was on a cycling trip from Perpignan to Gibraltar, and on July 5th, he was between Malaga and Mijas. The language barrier is really a drawback here. If you have any information about my friend, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you.
Emy.

Hello everyone.
I’m trying to get in touch with Kherornou Maryline.
They came as part of a group to Burkina Faso in 1999 to a village called Saponé.
Thanks
Hello,
I lived in Yaoundé from December 1965 to June 1971 full-time, then I only returned for the long holidays until 1975.
I was at the downtown school and then at Lycée Général Leclerc from 6th to 9th grade.
I’m looking for people who were my age back then.
I’d like to write a book about that special time in my life.
Here are a few names:
Philippe Bourigan
Brigitte Bourigan
Roland Cauvet
Serge Djamkepo
Marie-Françoise Prudent, who worked with my mother at the French mission for aid and cooperation
Brigitte Botela, with whom I danced my first slow dance
Francis Derozario (former Air France pilot)
Thierry Pakis, who had a jewelry shop
Jean-Michel Blondel, whose father was a gendarme
Marina (I no longer have her last name)
Brigitte, who lived near Aix-en-Provence
François, who had a Suzuki
and so many others
Getting in touch
I’m trying to get in touch with Michel Hodin, 79 years old, who lived or still lives in Troyes.
If anyone knows him and/or has his contact details…
Thanks in advance!
I’m looking for a man I met 42 years ago in Calvi, Corsica. His name at the time was Ayat Azir, and he’s Turkish from Izmir. He was in the 2nd REP with the French Foreign Legion. It’s been a long time, but I’d really love to find him again. Thanks for your help.
