J'ai prévu d'aller une semaine à Rome, en juin. Je voudrais en profiter pour visiter le site de Pompéï. Pensez-vous que cela soit faisable sur une journée, en train ? Ou alors, peut-être y a t-il des excursions en car organisées depuis Rome ? Merci de bien vouloir me renseigner.

Oui bien sûr c'est possible en une journée en train de partir de Rome pour aller vister Pompeï.
Je l'ai fait il y a quelques années.
Entre Rome et Pompeï il ya environ 200 kms.
La visite de pompeï prend quelques heures.
Merci de tout coeur ! c'est superbe, j'ai enregistré ce site dans mes favoris. Moi qui suis une fana des sites archéologiques, je sens que je vais baigner dans le bonheur pendant une semaine. Ce sera sans doute trop court mais j'y retournerai !!

Oui il est possible de visiter Pompéi en une jounrée, mais cela n'a aucun intéret. De plus il y a aussi a coté Herculanum, que tout le monde semble ingorer, et qui mérite absolument la visite. Tu dit âimer l'archéologie, donc en journée tu sera plus qu' insatisfaite. Mais il y a aussi une ville qui s'appel Naples, qui a mon sens est beaucoup plus "authentique" que Rome, et qui se visite sans aucun problème
De Rome Naples par le train sans aucun souci.

A quelques kilomètres de Rome, il y a Ostia. C'est très facile d'y aller, par le train, à peine 1/2 heure.
Tu peux y passer la journée, il y a aussi des vestiges d'une ville datant de la même époque que Pompéï. La vieille ville a été abandonnée, aucune construction ultérieure n'est venue la modifier.
Tu as aussi, à Rome les thermes de Caracalla, un peu moins vieux (inaugurés en 216), mais qui sont une bonne représentation de l'époque.
Il y a tant de choses à voir à Rome que tu n'auras pas trop de la semaine.
Ce serait dommage de passer 4 heures dans le train pour aller à Pompéï et de ne pas voir la région de Naples, on peut facilement y passer une semaine aussi.

Si tu veux t'imprégner de cette époque, je t'indique une série de livres que je viens de terminer : les aventures de Publius Aurélius Statius de Danila Comastri Montanari.
Ce sont des polars historiques, la lecture est donc très facile.
Une de ses nouvelles se passe à Herculanum et le héros est logé dans la villa des papyrus, dont le reportage parlait.
Chaque livre se termine par des appendices qui décrivent les usages et coutumes de la Rome antique.
En visitant Rome, tu retrouves tous les quartiers décrits dans cette série, les collines, le ghetto, l'île Tibérine ...

Merci pour cette information Chelly ; j'aime beaucoup les polars et romans historiques car c'est plus facile d'enregistrer l'histoire ainsi... A une époque, je lisais tous les romans de Dona Leone avec les aventures du Commissaire Brunetti, dans Venise. J'avais vraiment l'impression de m'y retrouver car je connais pas trop mal cette ville.

Je suis allée à Pompéï à partir de la région de Naples.
Tu peux t'adresser à l'office de tourisme si tu souhaites y aller en excursion organisée; sinon, le train ou l'avion pour Naples et ensuite le train appelé la circumvesuviana.

Inutile de prendre une excursion organisé selon moi. Il t'en coûtera beacoup plus cher que si tu le fait par toi-même.
Personellement, je serai à Naples pour visiter Pompéi. Naples vaut le détour et c'est tout près de Pompéi, moins de perte de temps dans les transports, je me rendrai à Rome par la suite. Mais si tu n'a d'autres choix que de loger à Rome, c'est tout de même très facile et relativement rapide de faire une excursion d'une journée à Pompéi
Il te suffira de prendre un train Rome - Naples. Ensuite de prendre le circumvesuviana, un train régional. Qui te mènera à Pompéi

Je reviens de Rome, et pour répondre à ta question c'est tout à fait faisable de visiter pompei en une journée.
Tout dépend du nombre de jours dont tu disposes, mais tu peux faire une halte à Naples, y dormir puis repartir le lendemain matin pour visiter Pompei la journée (c'est ce que j'ai fait). Il faut prévoir un pique nique et une bouteille d'eau, j'oubliais.. de la crème solaire.. car le soleil tape fort à Pompei !

Pour les citoyens de l'UE : gratuit pour les moins de 18 ans et les plus de 65 ans (comme souvent dans les musées italiens), 5 euros entre 18 et 25 ans.

J'ai une question supplémentaire. Je ne suis pas familier avec les trains en europe. Lors de mon excursion à Pompéi je sera à Rome alors je prendrai le train Rome-Naples. Sur le site internet on indique qu'il y a des billets de 1ière classe et 2ième classe. Quelle est la différence entre les deux type de billets?
La garnde différence entre la 1ère et la 2ème classe, c'est le confort ! En 1ère classe, sièges plus confortables et plus larges, davantage de place pour les jambes, et souvent moins de monde qu'en 2ème. Le prix est évidemment plus élevé ...
Je crois qu'il n'y a qu'une seule classe sur les trains de la Circumvesuviana.

Puisque tu reviens de Rome, as-tu des conseils à me donner pour les sites à visiter, comment s'y prendre pour ne pas perdre de temps, les réservations, etc ? Est-ce qu'il y a un jour, ou horaire plus indiqué pour visiter la chapelle Sixtine sans être obligée de faire la queue pendant des heures ?
Pour ce qui est des visites, il faut partir tot le matin, mais je ne peux pas te dire quel jour est propice pour avoir moins de monde. Le musée qui se visite obligatoirement avec réservation est la galerie Borghèse et là finalement, c'est interessant car le nombre de visiteurs est limité. Je pense que tu peux réserver sur internet certains musées cela peut être interessant pour éviter de faire la queue au guichet (il faut cliquer ici). Il me semble quand même que ce site propose des tarifs un peu plus chers que ceux proposés sur place..🤪
Pour ce qui est de la chapelle sixtine, en ce qui me concerne j'ai été un peu déçue. Elle se visite à la fin (il y a tout de même 7 kms de galerie à visiter), donc la fatigue est là, plus le monde et le bruit.. je n'avais pas l'impression d'être dans une chapelle. Je pense que quelque soit l'heure il y a toujours du monde. Les peintures de Michel Ange sont magnifiques.
Il y a plusieurs cartes qui te permettent d'avoir des entrées et réductions : la roma pass, qui offre deux entrées dans deux musées et des réductions pour visiter d'autres sites. Attention car il faut l'acheter le matin et l'utiliser les trois jours plein pour que ce soit interessant (il faut se renseigner sur les jours de fermetures) sinon ça ne vaut pas le coup.

Tu peux acheter le billet Roma Napoli dans les guichets automatiques dans la gare de Termini. Il faut juste se renseigner sur les horaires. Le trajet dure deux heures. Si tu veux payer le moins cher, il y a trois types de train régionaux suivant la vitesse. Les prix sont différents. Regardes sur le site internet trenitalia.fr.
Pour aller à Pompéi, il faut prendre le circumvesuviano à la gare de naples et prendre un ticket dans un kiosque en allant vers le quai (kiosque à cartes postales, loto..etc). Le prix est 2, 40 euros et la durée du trajet est environ d'une demi heure. Ce train s'arrete aussi à Herculanum.
Je n'ai pas visité Pompéi avec un guide car j'ai pris un audio guide. Je ne sais pas du tout comment visiter avec un guide Pompéi, j'ai vu certains sites sur internet qui propose des visites de groupes, je pense qu'il faut chercher par là.

Certains train exigeront une réservation. si tu prends un Eurostar pour Rome - Naples, tu devras payer une réservation et tu auras donc un siège réservé.
Si tu prends un train régional, la réservation n'est pas obligatoire. (trains plus lents)
Pour les classes, normalement c'est indiqué sur les Wagon à l'extérieur: 1 ou 2
Si tu as un billet dans réservation, n'oublie pas de le faire estamper dans les machines jaunes qui se trouvent sur les quais, sinon ton billet n'est pas valide.
Je serai en Italie pour deux semaines en Juin prochain, et je vais probablement acheter mes billets à l'avance sur internet, avec réservation. N'oublie pas que si tu paies un billet sans réservation, cela ne t'assure pas une place assise.
Si tu es certain de la date et l'heure que tu désirs faire le trajet Rome - Naples. c'est une bonne idée de réservé à l'avance. tu peux faire l'achat d'un "e-ticket". Tu paies ta réservation en ligne. Et si j, ai bien compris, on t'envoie un code par e-mail, et avec ce code, tu pourras imprimer toi-même ton billet à la gare.

We’re planning a short trip at the end of July to explore the legendary mountains and valleys of the Bernese Oberland: round trip from Nancy (Swiss highway vignette planned), 2 nights in a room with a small kitchen in Adelboden, then 2 nights in a hotel at the Gletscherblick in Grindelwald, both with half-board included.
Could you share some tips on the best road routes to take, as well as some walking hikes (we’re not as fit as we used to be, so nothing longer than 2-3 hours)? Maybe also 1 or 2 cable car rides—I was thinking of Oeschinensee Lake above Kandersteg and the First gondola above Grindelwald for better panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau... all while keeping it doable with our schedule. We’ve ruled out the "premium" trip up to the Jungfraujoch for this time.
I’m also guessing that paying to access Wengen or Mürren only makes sense if we’re staying there for a few days, right?
- Is the road through the narrow valley of the White Lütschine toward Lauterbrunnen and beyond still worth it in terms of views and scenery?

I visited the Faroe Islands in late March 2026 for about ten days. I was invited by a friend who lives near Tórshavn, so I don’t have any info on tourist accommodations or car rentals. Still, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my trip:
- Before leaving, I consulted travel guides and blogs. I was surprised by how repetitive and unoriginal the featured sites were. This leads hurried travelers to follow the same overcrowded routes, which can annoy locals. I found that all Faroese villages were interesting—they reflect the country’s identity, even without the iconic grass-roofed houses. Those are indeed harmonious and beautiful, but they feel like an exotic cliché. For activities, I loved the lively ports that keep the country running.
- I was annoyed by the paid trails in tourist spots. Locals explained that these paths cross private land, and owners are responsible for maintenance and safety. There are plenty of free trails, too—signs at the start detail their features. While not alarmist, the extreme and unpredictable weather is a key factor to consider before setting out.
- The wind’s strength really impressed me. The architecture, with doors and windows opening outward to prevent gusts from blowing roofs off, speaks to the harsh climate. Some days, relentless rain and squalls made going outside unappealing. I realized that in this country, it’s best to plan for flexible indoor days.
- Distances are relatively short. I was happy to be based near Tórshavn because it was easy to explore one or more places in a day. The roads are in great condition. In late March, diesel was 2 €. Tunnel tolls can add up (~26 € per crossing), making a fixed base less practical than I’d thought.
- Everyone agrees: the landscapes are breathtaking. Nature feels untamed here—except for the short grass, thanks to all the woolly sheep.
- The flight from Paris to the Faroe Islands (and back) was long in March—11 hours with three legs: Paris-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Vágar. In bad weather, Vágar Airport can close, causing delays. During tourist season, Atlantic Airways offers a direct Paris-Faroe Islands flight, which is more comfortable and cheaper.
- I found a book recommendation in a guide that fascinated me after my trip: *Les collectionneurs d'images* by Joanes Nielsen. Through its sometimes caricatured characters, it offers a glimpse into Faroese mentalities from the 1950s to 1970s—attitudes that likely persist today.
In conclusion, I’ve traveled a lot and I’m tired of destinations that all start to look the same. The Faroe Islands were a delight—a country stunning in its landscape, climate, and culture, where tourism has barely altered its authenticity.

We’re heading to Bavaria from May 13 to 23, with a side trip to Austria.
Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1: Brussels-Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich and departure for Salzburg
We’ll be staying three nights in Salzburg.
Then we’ll head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we’ll stay for five nights.
Visiting Munich and Salzburg isn’t too tricky.
Once in Garmisch, we’re planning a day in Innsbruck, a day for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the rest is still up in the air.
What’s really got me stumped is that we’d love to see Königssee Lake—everyone says it’s a must-see.
We’d also like to visit the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), where the landscapes are supposedly stunning.
This would either be a round trip while we’re in Salzburg or on the way between Salzburg and Garmisch, but I’m guessing it’s impossible to do the drive from Salzburg to Garmisch, the Eagle’s Nest, *and* Königssee Lake all in one day.
Plus, the Alpine route between Salzburg and Garmisch seems prettier than the highway.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the planning.
We should’ve added a stop between Salzburg and Garmisch, but the hotels are already booked.

We’re planning a trip to Finland and Norway this summer, starting in Oulu to explore Lapland, heading up to the North Cape, and then making our way down to Bergen.
This route means renting a car in Finland and dropping it off in Norway. My initial searches are showing rental rates that are... astronomical—about three times the price compared to returning it at the starting point.

I’m sharing my draft itinerary with you because I just booked our flight tickets, and I feel like it’s quite late in the season. So, I’d like to be sure about my stops before reserving the hotels. I’ll be traveling alone with my two adult children. We want to prioritize outdoor walks, avoid too many indoor visits (both for budget and preference), and not spend too much time on the road.
D1: Arrival at 9 AM in Malaga, day in Malaga and overnight stay
D2: Head straight to Nerja (1-hour drive) and spend the night there
D3: Head straight to Granada (1.5-hour drive), spend the day and night there
D4: Granada. Visit the Alhambra (Nasrid Palaces tour at 5 PM) and spend the night
D5: Head to Ronda (2.5-hour drive) and spend the night
D6: White Villages and overnight in Ronda
D7: Head straight to the Costa del Sol (e.g., Estepona), spend the day and night there
D8: Return to Malaga to catch our flight
There you go! This itinerary takes into account that we’d like to do a circuit starting from Seville in a few years. That said, it’d be a shame to miss something doable from Malaga.
Questions:
Since the Alhambra visit is only at 5 PM, and we’d already have the day to explore Granada, would arriving the day before be a mistake? Or should we skip this day and dedicate it elsewhere (Costa del Sol? Head toward Tabernas?)? The old town appeals to me, but maybe the Sacromonte neighborhood isn’t essential...
Same question for Ronda: should we dedicate a full day to it, or combine Ronda and the White Villages in one day?
Note that we love wandering around villages outside, so that might answer my question! :)
Final question: Is it better to rent the car at Malaga Airport or in the city? If we rent at the airport, we’d need a hotel with parking, which doesn’t seem easy. Or stay outside the city and park for free near the center if possible? I’ve read comments about taking a taxi to Malaga and then picking up the rental car at the airport the next morning. The taxi would really need to be affordable...
