Compte tenu que nous allons être en altitude, le médecin de la clinique santé-voyage nous a recommandé un médicament pour atténuer les symptômes du mal des hauteurs.
Pour ceux qui y sont allés, est-ce nécessaire ou pouvons nous nous contenter de mâcher des feuilles de cola ;)
Je pars pour l' Équateur-Pérou-Bolivie dans 4 mois...
Le médecin du CLSC nous a aussi prescrit du Diamox contre le mal des hauteurs. Si tu fais une recherche sur ce site sur le Diamox tu te rends vite comptes que plusieurs personnes sont contre le médicament.
Nous avons "fait" tout ce que tu prévois (et nous venions des Landes : ya pas plus plat et guère plus bas !!), j'avais 56 ans et mon fils 17 : nous n'avons vraiment rien ressenti, sans feuilles de coca ni médicaments et pourtant on a fait Lima-pucallpa en car en 23 heures (c'est-à-dire : le Pacifique, la grimpée routière à 4671 m jusqu'aux portes de l'Amazonie. Juste les oreilles qui se bouchaient...Si vous êtes en bonne santé et à peine sportifs comme moi, je pense que tu peux être tranquille...à mon humble avis...Bon voyage.

Personnellement, j'ai pris le Diamox 2 jours et j'ai arrêté, je me sentais pire qu'avant (extrémités qui picotent...). A mon avis, il faut seulement laisser le temps au corps de s'aclimater (genre pas de trek en arrivant à 3000m!).
🙂Le MAM ou sorroche (mal aigu des montagnes ) est imprévisible ....vieux ...jeunes ...sportifs... pas sportifs .... un jour tu l'as un jour tu l'as pas ....
C'est l'oedeme qui est le plus grand risque.... la matté de Coca est effectivement une solution... sans aucun risque je rapelle que ce n'est pas de la drogue à ce stade.... elle permet d'avoir de l'NRJ et de se réhydrater... éviter les Chela* et le pisco (*Cerveza....Les bières qu'elles soient Cusquenia ...christal qui sont très bonnes... mais qui déshydrates la désydratation est un facteur agravant) Respecter les palliers d'acclimatation est le meilleur conseil que l'on puisse donner en cas de problème grave c'est plus facile de redescendre.
Pour imager on passe pas de Lima (om) à Puno ou cusco (3700m) le même jour pour ne pas tenter le diable...sauf choix de l'avion alors on prévoit de se reposer ... 1 bonne journée avec un bon repas équilibré et de l'eau (l'inca Cola est toujours autorisé)...
Donc le parcours qui respecte le plus les palliers c'est Lima >.... arequipa >.....Puno > Cusco en bus.
Les médocs c'est sous le coude en cas de problème et que tu n'as pas le choix sinon à proscrire...

J'ai justement fait un mal des montagnes au pérou il y a 2 ans.
Au préalable je suis plutôt en bonne santé sans être particulièrement sportif. En circuit routard avec ma copine,
nous sommes passé de Lima à Arequipa (altitude environ 2500m si je me souviens bien). A Arequipa, nous avons
passé une journée pas vraiment de tout repos (arpenter la ville dans tous les sens, après déjà quelques jours de vadrouillage).
Et le lendemain nous sommes parti avec un minibus pour le Cañon De Colca. On passe de 2500M à 4900 m en quelques heures. Je n'ai pris aucun traitement.
Je ne me souviens plus comment ça a commencé, mais à partir du col, j'ai vraiment eu la tête dans un étau. J'étais allongé dans le véhicule avec le plus gros mal de crâne que j'ai jamais eu de toute ma vie et apparament c'était inquiétant (pour ma copine, et aussi pour moi qui suis fana de montagne...). Du coup le soir on s'est posé directement à l'hotel sans les habituels visites que font là-bas les touristes (bains thermaux...). L'hotel sur l'Altiplano devait être à 4000m d'altitude environ(je ne sais plus très bien). Après une sieste, on a pu faire une ballade dans le village, et la nuit m'a permis de retrouver la forme complètement. Le lendemain, nous avons passé la journée sur l'Altiplano (3800 à 4300 m environ). puis retour par le col à 4900m. Je n'ai rien ressenti, en fait j'ai vécu mon acclimatation dans la douleur. Ma copine n'a rien eu, ni lors d'un voyage au chili à des hauteurs similaires. Durant le reste du voyage, j'ai pu faire des randos sans problème sur le lac Titicaca (4000 à 4200m environ sur les montagnes)comme à Cuzco, où l'altitude est moins élévée.
Depuis, j'ai lu pas mal de trucs, ça peut arriver à tout le monde mais il est toujours profitable d'être reposé et de monter par paliers.
Je reviens justement d'un voyage de 3 semaines dans le même style de celui que tu vas faire. On avait pris un vol Lima-Cusco, donc on a dû confronté le brusque changement d'altitude... qui s'est avéré nous donner quelques maux de tête au lever et au coucher... mais rien d'autres, sinon d'être un peu essouflés au début. J'avais du diamox et j'y ai même pas touché....
Je suis partie 3 semaines au Pérou et je n'avais rien pour l'altitude.
Mon medecin m'avait prescrit des aspegic "enfant" pour fluidifier le sang et éviter les maux de têtes. J'en prenais un tout les matin au petit dèj. Et mon séjour c'est merveilleusement passé, pas de problème. Avec ca tu peux rajouter des infusions au coca ou effectivement machouiller les feuilles. Mais ne t'embête pas avec des médicaments "trop lourds"

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.
