Hi Anne,
You're very welcome—happy to help! The trip was at the end of May, beginning of June. I’ll talk more about safety later.

Hi Régis, greetings to all travelers!
For those interested, below is a link to recent articles on my blog that illustrate our trip to Ethiopia (November 2017). The blog is free to access, with no ads.

I’m not a "photographer"—the pictures in my posts aren’t as high-quality as the ones you share!
Best regards and have a great day, everyone!

Well, Régis, normally it's you who keeps me updated with the news ;) lucky a mutual friend sent me a PM
Even though I'd already seen your wolf photos, it's great to see them again, and thanks for bringing the forum back to life.
Personally, I don't know if I'll have the energy to start travel journals again

Before I left, my mom said: "Why are you going there? They spend all their time at war." Well, she wasn’t entirely wrong. The wilder place we were supposed to visit is caught up in tribal conflicts, and it’s strongly advised not to go there.
So, it’s time to leave the highlands and their tranquility behind and head to our next destination: Fitche, in the Oromia region. Here too, there are some tensions, but this time with neighboring countries. Soldiers and military equipment are being moved from the barracks to other locations. You have to enter the city before 6 PM because after that, it’s very difficult to get in—the road is blocked.
As for safety, I didn’t wander around the capital, so I can’t say, but in Fitche, we walked around without feeling any hostility, just curiosity. And if you buy them some doughnuts, they’ll be delighted. The hardest part is making yourself understood to avoid ending up with something that’ll burn your throat! Few white people come to this region.
Most Ethiopians are Christian, and the vast majority are Orthodox. They have a habit of starting liturgical chants, called Zema, as early as 3 AM. If you have a church nearby, it can get annoying because the chants go on for a good part of the day. Different churches take turns, so it’s not the same ones every day.

Don’t you ever look back at your travel journals and think how handy it is that they’re so easily accessible—even for you? That’s what I was thinking.

To wrap up this amazing trip to Ethiopia, a quick word on the organization. I went on this adventure with the talented photographer Adrien Lesafre. The organization was perfect from start to finish, with top-notch guides, especially for the part dedicated to the wolves, which you need to know how to spot on the vast plateaus of the park.
Thanks for following along, and see you soon for more adventures… but not in Africa this time!

Oh darn, it's already over 😢
Thanks for this update—your photos are as stunning as ever!
It’s a country on my list, but I’ll admit the security uncertainties have held me back so far. Plus, I’d love to explore it without a guide, which doesn’t seem easy given the infrastructure.

From what I know, to drive in Ethiopia you need an Ethiopian license, which you can only get if you have a valid residence permit. And it’s a country that isn’t very developed for welcoming tourists.
